The suspension was face up, in a sort of seated position with legs extended in front of me. The rope I refer to that cut into me during the suspension was more in the armpit/side of breast area.

Ok, that makes sense. I have a lot of issues with the breastbone when I hang 'em (or me) up face-down and that tie looks like it might distribute the weight. I guess there's ALWAYS an issue with the main load-bearing point though, from what you said...
