Title says it all...

I bought a book today at a Nature Reserve (and donated four crates full to them!).

It is a 1906 edition of 'Names for Baby'. Among other things it lists the 25 most popular names which were used for two-thirds of all children registered in England and Wales in 1900:

1. Mary
2. William
3. John
4. Elizabeth
5. Thomas
6. George
7. Sarah
8. James
9. Charles
10. Henry
11. Alice
12. Joseph
13. Ann
14. Jane
15. Ellen
16. Emily
17. Frederick
18. Annie
19. Margaret
20. Emma
21. Eliza
22. Robert
23. Arthur
24. Alfred
25. Edward

[Og's note: Even if you add the numbers for Elizabeth and Eliza together they wouldn't move up from fourth place. Annie added to Ann would move up a couple of places.]

In the 21st Century the most frequently used name in England and Wales is...

Mohammed (and variants)

That isn't because there are that many Mohammeds. It's because Mohammed is by far the most popular Muslim name. The other Muslim names, male or female, are each a tiny number compared to Mohammed.

The other reason is that many UK parents choose non-traditional names. Although some in that 1900 list are still popular many babies are given modern created names or alternative spellings. The range of names is far wider than it was in 1900.

Are there any boy names that haven't been the first name of a king?

I've been reading Templar Knights, books on Freemasons, and secret society clubs. Most anything about the medieval times and crusades. Also, looking into the reformation of the new Templar Knights and their acceptance back into the Catholic Church.
