Bruce Springsteen cancels show

I live in NC and no, I am not ashamed of it. (I have had some bashing lately simply due to my residence) I really don't know why this whole thing started in the first place, they have been using our restrooms all this time with nobody's panties in a twist.. Why now? Women's restrooms are stalls anyway, it isn't like I am whipping my privates out for everyone to see in the first place. If a sexual predator decides to invade a women's restroom they aren't going to say "oh, there is a law saying I can't go in there, darn!!" Last time I checked rape was against the law too and that doesn't stop it from happening. I have daughters in High school, I am much less concerned about the TG kid in the bathroom than I am the boys that try to convince my girls to meet them behind the bleechers! That being said I do believe all showers should be required to have stalls.. I don't want anyone, girls, boys, TG,Bi, gay, straight or gym teachers to see my kids shower. (The amount of kids that identify themselves as Bi now is staggering to me, I don't remember knowing anyone who said they were bi in high school but now there are tons kids who identify as bi) I do think these celebs who are making these sudden big statements are simply doing it for the publicity, it has been shown they are happy to play in places with much greater oppression than NC and that was ok but that wouldn't get them in the media so it wasn't a problem then... It just bothers me the things people say about NC, we aren't all homophobes and backwoods. Talk about the issues, state why this law is good/bad but leave the bashing out of it.

Ok, that is my one political post for the decade!

The fundie fascist who enacted these laws were elected in a democratic fashion by the people of NC. Therefore whether you voted for one of them or not, your state and it's residents are responsible for these fascist laws.

For the people, by the people. Right?

Feeding on fear and imagination work.

Up here the Conservatives smashed support for the NDP in Quebec by bringing up and imaginary civil servant who might want to wear a full burkha to work or a man trying to gain citizenship while wearing one and not revealing his identity. Culturally protective Quebecers fell for it and voted Liberal instead after the NDP had without precedent had large numbers of their people elected in the previous election.

Hitler fed into the fears of the German people about large numbers of poor Jewish peasants fleeing Russian pogroms. Among the people there was a greater fear of these refugees taking their jobs than over Jewish shopkeepers or industrialists and bankers.

Say nothing of value that you can be held to and scare the voters. Works 51% of the time.

Or is this some other case, possibly about Barney Frank?

That is Dennis Hastert. You should get to know him better.

The Hastert case isn't such a big deal either. It happened over 30 year ago when he was a coach in high school and was apparently consensual sex. I don't know the ages of the "victims" but the age of consent in IL is 17.

You'll have a hard time topping the case of Barney Franks, who operated a ring of call boys out of his apartment while he was a seated member of Congress.

$830 million corporation pulling out of South Carolina over proposed anti-LGBT bill

Alabama, Indiana, Mississippi and North Carolina are learning the hard way what their right-wing values get them in the end. Now just the proposal of a so-called “bathroom bill” in South Carolina has sent one gay chief executive officer is packing his jobs for California.

Anthony Watson, CEO of Uphold, describes himself as an “openly gay, British CEO,” according to The State. He’s decided to take his financial services company, which has handled $830 million in transactions since 2014, to Los Angeles instead of sticking it out.

“I have watched in shock and dismay as legislation has been abruptly proposed or enacted in several states across the union seeking to invalidate the basic protections and rights of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) U.S. citizens,” he wrote on the company’s website Tuesday.

Watson specifically called out South Carolina senator Lee Bright who dimly announced his bill last week which would require people to use the bathroom of the gender assigned to them at birth. “In recent days, we have been made aware that South Carolina Sen. Lee Bright has introduced a bill largely mirroring North Carolina’s controversial law that blocks local governments from passing LGBT-inclusive anti-discrimination ordinances,” wrote Watson. “As such, we feel compelled to take action to oppose the discrimination being proposed in South Carolina and protect our LGBT employees.”

Senator Lee "Not too" Bright needs a retroactive abortion.

Learn what a fascist is, shit for brains. Its like saying vegetarians or southpaws are evil.

Did you know that Dennis Hastert was Speaker of the House for eight years, the second-most-powerful man in America? I mean, I suggested that you learn about him and you seem to know a little bit.

I can tell you about his victims, too.
According to the prosecutors, Mr. Hastert gave one boy, a 14-year-old freshman wrestler, a massage in the locker room, then performed an unspecified sex act on him. Another boy, Stephen Reinboldt, who died in 1995, was sexually abused by Mr. Hastert throughout high school in the late 1960s and early 1970s, his sister and others told the prosecutors. A third boy, who was 17 and remembered Mr. Hastert sitting in a recliner-type chair with a direct view of the locker room shower stalls, said Mr. Hastert had told him that one way to make his wrestling weight was to get a massage, then performed a sexual act. And prosecutors said Mr. Hastert had massaged another boy’s groin area after asking the boy to stay in his hotel room during a wrestling camp.
Maybe there's something in a political party wanting to protect people from sexual predators, because they know exactly how the sexual predators within their ranks operate.

And there's more.

A federal judge on Wednesday said he would factor in false claims by former House speaker Dennis Hastert – who wrongly told FBI agents he was extorted by a man he sexually abused years ago – when the ex-lawmaker is sentenced later this month on bank fraud charges.

Hastert, who was the longest-serving Republican speaker in history, told authorities last year that he was being extorted by a man he had taught during his days as a high school teacher and wrestling coach in Yorkville, Ill., after agents questioned him about illegally structured bank withdrawals from his personal bank accounts.

"That's not conduct that's 40 years old," Judge Thomas Durkin said. "That's conduct that's less than a year old."

In psychology it's called 'projection'. Ascribe your own weaknesses, sins, mental and moral deficiencies, to your opponents. Closet (and not so closeted) queens denouncing gayness. Sexual predators denouncing non-standard sex while committing their own abuses. That's what I see in "pro-family" activists -- self-hatred projected outward. It's a mental thang.

What he means is if I call you a nigger and youre black and I'm white I must be black. Youre a fuggin genius. I mean, I am.

Projection is a Freudian defense mechanism tho almost no one credits Sigmund Freud with shit anymore.

It could also be an attempt at camouflage.

So let me get this straight. Bruce Springsteen's response to people who might discriminate against a group they don't agree with by withholding services, is to withhold services to a group he doesn't agree with?

Yep, that about sums it up.

"But they do it toooooooo!"

Maybe you can name some Democrats who are passing laws that restrict the freedoms of people based on their genes.

I don't know what that has to do with the subject of this thread, which refers to what bathrooms etc. should be used by LGBT people. Anyhow, Dems passed literally thousands of laws restricting the freedoms of people based on their genes. The laws were known collectively as Jim Crow laws and were in effect for almost a century, until Republicans and Northern Dems passed federal laws that superseded them.

I don't believe anybody is currently passing laws restricting the freedoms of people based on their genes.

Worth a repeat...
Stoopid Boxlicker fails to remember that prior to the Great Reagan Consolidation of 1980, there were plenty of conservative Democrats and *gasp* Librul Republicans.

"Separate but Equal" and Jim Crow existed largely in states with conservative governors and legislators.

I find there is a long list of more important things to be concerned with in this country. Trans make up maybe 1% of the population the fact that they're on the political radar is amazing. So is that liberal entertainer who is well established and won't be financially hurt by this action. I'm sure new dates will be set in driving distance of NC.

Handle some important problems first please.

Wrong Hanes breath.

In 1895 Plessy sued a railroad that made him ride with the niggers after he revealed he had like 1/16th black blood...he looked white. Till then racial discrimination was a hit and miss event as many blacks lived and worked in white neighborhoods. So Plessy made an appeal to the Supreme Court, and the Court created SEPARATE BUT EQUAL and Jim Crow. In time samesex marriage will go away, too.

Some profit margins are that close. Or huge bonuses based on a 1% increase or being cashiered for a 1% drop. 1% of population gets outraged and 9% who are there friends anyway and now 10% drop in sales possibly.

Look at elections. 1% is enough to get you in or not. 1% way more than a hanging chad.

You have to be in the top 1 or 2% to get media attention. The top 1% make all the money.

They are on the political radar because laws have been made against them. I doubt most relish the spotlight.

NC lawmakers should be spending time on better things. NC residents should stop electing them.
