Not too bad, actually. It's still pretty hot over here, we're getting more or less heavy thunderstorms in the meantime, I'm sweating just from typing - but apart from that I'm fine.
Well and apart from waiting on the answer to a job interview, which is not due till next week. And I was told they might not reach their final decision till then...

Well considering whom we are waiting for, I'm ready to hold on for quite some time.
Just to please our lovely landlady ( ) on her return and to surprise her how persistent we can be.
Hmmm, mind you the movie is over right now and till you get another one, I might do some vacuuming, get fresh flowers on Jen's table and empty the dish washer. I'm sure she'll appreciate.

It was my first interview so I can't really compare, but it lasted for 2 hours, was very relaxed and quite enjoyable - so the feeling is not really bad. I know from a friend at the company that there were 23 applicants but I don't know how many made it to an interview. So I'm somewhat nervous and hope that I'll get a positive response in a few days...

I was quite pleased, she didn't recognise I was German.

I did the work, they want to be done for several years and I think I know what they want and can handle it. But I really don't know whether they put more weight on studies or practice or if there was somebody who could offer both. So far I wasn't rejected so I take it for a good sign. Mind you second place would probably be as bad as 5th.

I don't begrudge teachers a single penny they earn, that is a tough job, especially in English secondary schools. They are not all bad kids, but it seems to me year upon year, they are running riot just a little bit more.

I think that bodes well that you've done that type of work in the past. It's all well and good being upto date, but if they have'nt any experience doing the job, i think you can discount them. But as you said, if theres candidates with both, well, that may push you down the list.

I actually quite enjoyed the year teaching in England. On the one hand it was only part time (50%) which meant just enough money to live and a lot of free time, which I spent with some colleagues and new friends in the cinema, playing quazar, board games or something like that. On the other hand the school was very "nice", I actually only had to ask twice for more discipline and silence in those 9 months. But then the children probably treated me differently as I wasn't a "real" member of staff, but somewhere in between. And last but not least I did quite a lot of individual teaching for the A levels as well. Which means 1 on 1 conversational training - no need to ask for discipline in such a situation.

The company has changed their demand somewhat after they have done the first round of interviews. They decided that they actually want somebody from marketing and the internet stuff is only secondary. The original ad was the other way round.

And now for something completely different - no I'm not wearing a bikini lying on my desk.
I hope our lovely landlady is well. I haven't seen or heard from hear for quite some time. Hey Jen, come on, just say hello, give us a sign of life, drop the dirty laundry. You know we've done all the other stuff already and wouldn't mind some more work to do for you.

Very fond memories, indeed. So far it was the best time in my life. Apart from the fact that I hadn't found my girl at that time, of course.
The only thing I disliked were the closing times of the pubs. Not that I went there a lot and hated to leave that early. But I had the feeling that the early and more or less simultaneous closing hours produced a lot of drunken people on the streets at a certain time and with that a certain level of aggression as well, if you know what I mean. But apart from that - just grrrreeeaaaaat *ooops, the tiger in me* and I revisited the island during my studies several times.

And as far as the pupils are concerned - yes the school itself was definitely nice and the pupils, too. But I think I can handle the rough ones, too. I think some of the children want to see who is tougher and whether you can play the game. My experience is that if you pick one of the troublemakers in the beginning and show the class that it's not really worth trying a fight things remain as they are supposed to be. Some sort of "cruel to be kind" thing.

Mind you, you don't happen to know how the teaching situation in England is right now? Say how difficult would it be for a native speaker to become a German teacher in England, which requirements have to be fullfilled, and where could I get some more information, like payment and so on?
