Calling all Asians

Just stopping by...dinner sounds great, hope you made enough to share with everyone!

Of course! I would be a terrible Korean hostess if I didn't. Make sure you take your shoes off inside and if you want to...bring some kimchi:)

Please forgive my interruption! You guys know how to make kimchi? I only buy mine from the Korean market.

I use the recipe from maangchi. It isn't the same as my mom's but it's pretty good. Our asian market has some made locally, that is much easier and tastes better!

Wish I could find an asian market out here in the country....

Loved the Korean food while stationed in Korea....:rose:

Yeah, they make it fresh at our local Korean market — I'm pretty lucky!

What dishes do you cook with the kimchi? I love making really spicy tofu stew with kimchi and pork, and also kimchi spam fried rice.

A lot of mass market grocery stores carry kimchi and a small selection of asian food now. It's more expensive but i have purchased those tiny $5 kimchi many times!

I am still a picky eater, so no tofu for me.
Bulgogi, rice and kimchi
kimchi soup
Dried seaweed, rice & kimchee

It's a side dish so anytime rice is served kimchi is good with it.

I usually make a large pot of Kimchi stew, and eat the leftover the next day with freshly grilled Kalbi. (I'm lazy!)

That sounds really good! I may need a snack after my soak since I haven't brushed my teeth yet:)

Saw this today on Facebook

An Open Letter to Asian Americans

As someone who does some media work, this is nothing new to me, but might be to others.

Meh. We have direct tv and all we get are the korean channels. Netflix I only watch british shows or the Korean movies so I see Korean people all day long. Right now Dr. Stranger is playing (for my mom) on netflix.

I don't look at tv and wish they represented me, especially since I love horror and mysteries :). I would rather have a good story than a show that has 1 person of every race just for the sake of diversity.

It's been quiet in here recently...

The mid autumn festival is coming up at the end of the month. Who likes mooncakes?

I always forget when mid autumn festival is. Curse you lunar calendar . Mooncakes aren't bad, but no one else eats in our house, so most usually go bad...

This year's Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 27th.

You can get a box of the mini ones, and finish them up by yourself. :)

Something very inappropriate if I have a say in it .

My coworker made some with jerky, she said it was good, but I have my doubts.

I know there's one with Chinese cured ham, but never heard of using JERKy! (Must be extremely tasty! :D )

I do! I like the ones with white lotus seed paste and four egg yolks in a single mooncake. :)

Four egg yolks! That's a cholesterol overload! :p

I'm not a fan of the egg yolks so I usually get the ones without. Although I'm terrified of the calorie overload - one mooncake is something like 2000 calories

I'm not going to worry about the calories since it's a once-a-year treat, and I share them with my family! :)
