cam girls

Hi. I’m back.

Sorry I’ve been away, but I’ve actually been writing! My goodness.

Well, well, well. Bob and Doug MacKenzie, is it? I’ve got a vinyl record of theirs around somewhere. Do you know the story of how they got started? I heard that SCTV (is that the name of the program? I forget) was being made by the CBC for sale to American networks, but because the CBC had fewer ads than the Americans, when they showed the program in Canada, they had an extra 6 minutes to fill. Apparently, the CBC told them, “We don’t care what you fill it with, just make sure it’s Canadian content.” So they decided to sit around in flannel shirts and toques, drinking beer and frying bacon. So originally, only Canadians got to see Bob & Doug.

And LadyCibelle – I appear to have found a guardian angel as well as an editor. Nice to have you hovering around.

Now. Back to work.

How does an “hours-long love-in” work at $6 per minute? Rich client?

Is 1999 too early to be a cam girl? If so, I can move my timeline around so that Vicki is a bit younger in 2004 (when the story climaxes).

What might Vicki’s first step on the way to cam girling be? Uploading a sexy dance video to YouTube?

Can Vicki’s first experience of cam girling be as a remote model? Or is that really unusual?

Now, the idea for this story came to me when I paid a visit to the literotica web cam site, but the discourteous language put me off. The excerpts you posted are similar to the literotica site, but in your extracts, Bailey seems to be having a (reasonably) nice time in between the "shw yr tits" stuff.

Gee, it would be interesting to write a story set in a chatroom, using only the dialogue...

The "1f/s" video would be fantastic. Please do post that as well.

Just paid a quick visit to the literotica site again and the girls in free chat looked bored and tired, but at least the language was less gross. Hey, I get bored and tired at work, too, but I want Vicki to have fun. Did I just catch those girls at a bad time?

Take care,

x Mad

I don't think YouTube even existed until 2004 or 2005ish.

I'd have a boyfriend buy her a webcam as a present, and have her show off to him, possible in a long distance setting. From there she might go to chat rooms, get a rush from teasing strangers (even in typical college student loungewear), and go from there.

Ta, James

Yeah. I'm not really thinking this through very well.

High speed connections weren't that common in 2004, let alone 1999.

I think I might have to move Hurricane Ivan (the story climaxes on Sept 16, 2004). Maybe I'll create a fictitious hurricane in 2008.

Darkniciad, when did Peekshows start up?

By the way, SimpleGifts, Regina Lynn has offered to pass on my details to a cam girl she's interviewing. How good is that?

Cheers,

Mad

I started college in the fall of 1997. Our dorms were hooked up with high speed, T1 connections. At that time, high speed was mostly for college kids and tech geeks.

I can say from personal experience that there were plenty of people camming in Yahoo sex chat rooms in 1998. The quality sucked compared to now, but there were actual, live, even attractive women who occasionally showed off, and were deluged with attention from all the guys there.

Ah, yes. Universities have always been seriously connected.

But in the dorms?

Tell me about dorms, by the way. Remember, I'm on the other side of the planet and about one generation older. Do most students stay at the dorms? Do they really pair people up with complete strangers?

Well, I was in college from 1997-2001. I attended a small, liberal arts school in the Midwest. 100% of freshmen and sophomores lived in the dorms on campus, a small percentage of juniors and a moderate chunk (25% or so) of seniors lived in off campus houses near campus. And yes, the dorms were wired for high speed internet at least a year if not more before I moved in.

Hooking up (anything between making out and intercourse) with someone you just met that night was uncommon, but not unheard of. The thing about college parties is they tend to feel very safe, especially if the college is somewhat isolated and the vast majority of a party's attendees are all students from the same school, it gives a sense of commonality.

I also have been at graduate school at a major, huge University in California. All the freshman live on campus in the dorms, some of the sophomores, none of the juniors or seniors. Casual hook-ups seem more common, but at the same time, it's a different environment.

Sometimes. It may just be somebody who's really lonely and willing to give up buying a PS3 for a few hours talking to a hot girl, though. Most people who go longer than 20 minutes are reasonably well off. Most of the ones who did marathon shows with Bailey were docs, lawyers, corporate bigwigs, and even one big-time actor that she knows of ( and wasn't supposed to be told about and she would kill me if I even hinted at the name )

Is 1999 too early to be a cam girl? If so, I can move my timeline around so that Vicki is a bit younger in 2004 (when the story climaxes).

'99 isn't too early for a studio cam girl, but for one working from home you're going to have to fast-forward to about 2001 unless they're in a *MAJOR* metro area. I first started visiting the site that closed down and was the genesis of Peeks in '98 ( all studio girls ) Most sites were also still hammering out their remote model technology until '01 as well.

What might Vicki’s first step on the way to cam girling be? Uploading a sexy dance video to YouTube?

Could be any situation where a lot of people see pictures of her and she's communicating regularly. You could even go as low-tech as a message board where she's posting pictures and some other girl who's working the cam ( or a site owner, chatter, admin... ) says "You could make a lot of money."

Can Vicki’s first experience of cam girling be as a remote model? Or is that really unusual?

Mind the dates above, but the norm now is remote models in the US. Most of the models in the former Soviet republics and Europe still trend toward studios, but the biggest part of models in the states and canada are working out of their own homes for comfort and flexibility.

The "1f/s" video would be fantastic. Please do post that as well.

Drop me a PM and I'll email it to you. I don't want to just post it up because that wouldn't be fair to the model to have it floating around for download anywhere ( even though low-quality )

Just paid a quick visit to the literotica site again and the girls in free chat looked bored and tired, but at least the language was less gross. Hey, I get bored and tired at work, too, but I want Vicki to have fun. Did I just catch those girls at a bad time?

The largest part of the girls are just there for the money. If it's a slow time/day for private shows, then they start getting depressed/irritated ( which ends up killing their minutes, but you often can't get that through to them no matter how hard you try )

There are always one or two models who are just having a ball. Anybody who's ever been in a nudie chat regularly knows they're out there, so it won't ring false for Vicki to be one of them. I know that all my favorites were ( including the one I've been with for 8 years now :D )

I would certainly compress the timeline a little. It's rare for a model to last more than a year or two at a stint. There are a few who go year after year, but most are there and burn out quickly ( at least for a while ) It can be hard on a girl ( both emotionally and physically ) Most end up coming back when they leave, but you're usually talking about spurts with long breaks between.

EDIT

One more piece of critical information ( which could add some tension if used properly in the story ) is that almost all sites discourage any sort of communication between models and chatters off site. That includes email, phone, etc.

Before the technology for on-site cam-to-cam and two way sound became viable and widespread, this was difficult to enforce. In order to bring in those specialty dollars, the sites would let the models talk on the phone with customers ( difficult to monitor for exchange of information ) or view the customer on a third party video service ( yahoo cam for example ) during private shows, which allowed them to gain access to off-site communication methods.

Some studios would go as far as to instantly fire a model if they discovered she was talking to a customer outside of the website. Most would just slap on new controls all the time and close chatrooms when they suspected it, taking their sweet time to let the model get back to work in hopes that the lost time would encourage her to behave.

In some cases, with start-ups, it was quietly and unofficially encouraged, however. Word of mouth and deep personal connections with the model will suck in new chatters quickly. Peeks even broadcast the private shows to free chat for several months when they first started out. When the model went into a private, the whole free chat room got to see what she was doing ( even though they couldn't interact with the show and the video window was smaller and of slightly less quality than in private ).

The almighty dollar

Hey, there's plenty up there I want to respond to, but just quickly:

I just paid (not literally, as far as I could tell) a visit to iFriends.com.

Nasty.

In 10-20 minutes of browsing, I couldn't find anything that didn't cost money. I couldn't even find something that tried to appear as though it wasn't all about money. "I can't wait for you to visit me" - bah!

"Help make me a star" - good lord, honey. Too desperate.

Do I not have the right attitude for this stuff?

I can hear what you're saying, Darkniciad, about for some women, at least, it's not all about earning a bit of cash. And OK, I haven't visited Peekshows yet, and yes, there was one young woman on the literotica cams who seemed to be enjoying herself, but other than her (maybe - she could just be a good actor), so far, I'm finding it a bit distressing. I know Vicki only exists in my imagination, but I care for her. I can't make her that desperate.

By the way, SimpleGifts, I found iFriends in the back of a book (Naked on the Internet by Audacia Ray - recommended by Regina Lynn) that I got from my local library - thanks again.

More (hopefully better-considered) thoughts in the next day or so.

In the meantime, I would love to hear your thoughts, Darkniciad - and anybody else (please!) - on a site called ifeelmyself.com. I'm not promotiing it - I just would like to know why, when women have the opportunity to contribute to something like ifeelmyself, they choose ifriends, instead. It has to be the money.

And I'm not convinced that this can be empowering. The power to make men sweaty. Big deal.

It's not the sex that upsets me - it's the commercialisation. Am I just too isolated from the real world? Why am I calling the internet the real world? Aaargh.

Yes, yes, I know these are not well-considered thoughts. I just found ifriends to be distressing and I'm venting off publically. If I've said something stupid or offensive, please don't hold back. I need to understand this stuff.

Cheers,

Mad

Very cool, and my pleasure. Glad she can help you out--I really like what she has to say about sex & technology. We've exchanged a few e-mails but I doubt she'll remember me...but I'm happy to have given you a useful lead.

Unless there is at least some consideration of the $$, a girl would probably just go the route of camming on Yahoo or contributing videos to somewhere like Beautiful Agony.

( Beautiful Agony shows nothing but head and shoulders, concentrating on the expressions and sound for eroticism )

The girl is absolutely going to have to have a strong exhibitionist personality. Even if she's not perfectly happy with her body, she likes showing off. That is part of the kick. That element of the reward is easy, guys mooning over her every day and coming back to spend time with her. The reasons to crave the attention are many and varied, but they crave the attention. That's pretty much a key element. If she's enjoying being on cam, then it has to be almost like a drug - a high.

The empowerment could come from any number of sources as well. Rebellion against an overpowering conservative upbringing. Coming out of her shell after fighting her weight through school. Coming out of a relationship she thought was "the one" only to have him cheat on her with some blonde bimbette with an IQ of less than room temperature. Coming out of her shell because she was terminally shy for most of her life...

( Goes back to my mention of how its easier to do anything online than in the real world. There's an element of distance, safety, and an escape route that releases inhibitions )

Keep in mind that most who enjoy being on cam are going to find those gems in the chat as well. There are guys out there who will walk with them through thick and thin. They can provide a sounding board for issues that she just can't talk about with anyone she knows in person. Its a unique circle of friends where a lot of the barriers are broken down by simple virtue that she's naked on cam. The ability to open up to someone, even when there's a safety net, can do a lot.

Waking up some quiet chatter and pulling them out of their shell can really bring a smile to a girl's face too.

I can't explain it in full, and neither can the girls, really. Even when they have plenty of friends in the real world, there's something unique about the people they meet in chat that fills a void. Unique perspectives they might never encounter in the real world. People from faraway exotic places. People with fascinating careers.

The other element you're looking at with a girl who is as much about the experience as the money is a high sex drive - very high. If they aren't getting gratification from the private shows, then that becomes a chore. They have to be releasing a lot of sexual energy build-up in order to enjoy it.

Somewhere, there is some sort of need that being on cam fills. That's what you're looking for as the core reason.

I think I’m starting to get it

Thanks for sticking with me on this, Dark, I really appreciate it.

I think the thing that I’d missed was the craving attention bit. Look at me, I’m hot. It’s funny, because that’s definitely true of Vicki. As a teenager, she gets the lead role in a highly controversial school play.

I guess I was also assuming that once you start doing it for money, it… um…

What am I trying to say, here?

That it couldn’t be fun, anymore? That doing it for money debases it?

The way Audacia Ray tells it, it was like she just woke up one morning and thought, “I could do this for money.” Like, charging people to have internet sex wasn’t a lot different from doing it as peers. But doesn’t sex lose its value (its specialness) when you start charging for it? Hmm.

Is it mixed in with desirability? Say she’d become highly sought after as a partner. I guess it’s casual, so maybe there’s not a lot of specialness to lose. Yeah, I get it. She’s not charging her boyfriend for sex. (This is so embarrassing – I feel like I’m publicly displaying what a slow thinker I am.) It’s like I went from fixing bicycles for my friends to opening up a bike shop. And hey, even if I am charging customers, it doesn’t mean I can’t do the occasional freebie for my friends.

Q.1: Am I getting closer to understanding?

Q.2: Does the crass commercialism of something like ifriends.com put people off? Or is that just how it is? If I were Vicki, it would put me off badly. I’d be looking elsewhere.

Dark, you say, “There are guys out there who will walk with them through thick and thin. They can provide a sounding board for issues that she just can't talk about with anyone she knows in person. It’s a unique circle of friends where a lot of the barriers are broken down by simple virtue that she's naked on cam. The ability to open up to someone, even when there's a safety net, can do a lot.”

Q.3: Does all that happen in the public chatrooms? Or are you talking about once a friendship has been started and there’s some private mode of communication?

Take care,

First thing is that there's very little emotional attachment to the shows. With a few regulars, there will probably be something there ( akin to "friends with benefits" ) but for most of the shows, it's just hoping that the guy will say something that turns you on enough to get there. New and exciting is what a model is seeking. Every walk of life and every personality is represented in nudie chat.

It could be an extension of promiscuity, or it could be a replacement for it in the real world. I've known several models that hadn't been in bed with a real man in months, but worked the cam every day. I've known models in steady relationships where she turned off the cam and jumped her man the moment he walked in the door.

It all goes back to high sex-drive and exhibitionism. Pretend you're in a world with no consequences and you can indulge to your heart's content. Nearly everyone has purposely "dressed to kill" at some point and been in a heightened state of anticipatory arousal for some period of time. Imagine that as a near 24/7 condition.

Naturally, there are potential consequences - even if far fewer than actually sleeping around or even stripping. Even if a model keeps location and other personal details tightly under wraps, she still may get recognized at the hot dog stand of a Green Day concert ( yes, that's a real example *laugh* ) or her pictures could turn up in the hands of someone she'd much rather never see them ( like a teenage son a decade or so later )

The money is almost always a consideration, but even if you already have enough to live comfortably, more money means more pampering. If you don't need the money, you still want it. If it isn't critical for survival, however, then a slow day isn't going to dampen your spirits. It's almost like found money, in a way. If you like riding the ferris wheel and you win a prize as the one-millionth person to ride the ferris wheel, it doesn't cheapen the ride.

Try to think of the minutes/money as another satisfaction of the craving, rather than the main reason for being on cam. It's just another compliment, and a means to get that extra pedicure, highlights in your hair, new sexy outfits, new toys - new ways to show off.

Q.2: Does the crass commercialism of something like ifriends.com put people off? Or is that just how it is? If I were Vicki, it would put me off badly. I’d be looking elsewhere.

Any model who is on cam as much for enjoyment as money is going to roll her eyes at the boring girls constantly telling people "No pay - No play" The unfortunate circumstance is that there isn't a site that isn't primarily populated with those type of models. That's where the attention she needs is, though. I've known models that bounced from site to site for exactly that reason, only to finally accept that there really wasn't anywhere better.

There's also often a bit different story behind the scenes than what you see on the website. Not every manager/owner is the overweight sleazebag that automatically pops into mind when you think about someone making their living off adult entertainment. I've known managers/owners that spent hours on the phone tech-supporting remote models to get something peripheral to the actual money-making side of things up and running. I've seen advances and loans extended to models in tough spots. I've seen owners recommend lawyers and even utilize the sites lawyers ( an absolute necessity in any adult endevor ) to give advice to a model struggling with some legal matter. I've known managers to help a model move or pick her up at the airport.

In the end, all that pays off in the form of a model with a smile on her face that brings in the private minutes, but you can imagine how little that sort of long term thinking would apply to a single model amongst even a dozen, let alone a hundred or more.

So the commercialism on the surface may not be so prevelant behind the scenes. I wouldn't make this a dominant part of the site operators in the story ( because most people who've never been behind the blue curtain wouldn't believe that it does happen ) but even one person in charge who actually gives a damn about the models on cam can dull the impersonal commercialism for her.

Don't forget that admins are frequently unpaid volunteers. That puts them in a unique place between management and chatters that provides a buffer. Admins at the site I wore the boots for were always chosen from the best-of-the-best regular chatters on the site, usually nominated by those of us who were originally elevated to the green suits by the owners. These guys care about the models - beyond her looks - almost universally. Many times, they aren't even people who regularly ( or ever ) spend money, so that's also another element that provides a buffer from the commercialism.

I've seen this happen in open, free chat too many times to count. The degree varies widely.

I've seen models break down and start spilling their heart out on cam before, going so far that I've called the office and told them to shut off the feed while I provided a safe relay point for her to keep talking to chatters and other admins through IMs.

We all banded together to track down a deadbeat dad who kept coming into a model's chatroom and taunting her that she'd never see a dime of her child-support on a daily basis. We actually had a chatter on hand with a cellphone cam to take pictures so that the model could identify him beyond any doubt. He ended up getting busted with dope on his person when he was tracked down :D

( there's no such thing as a proxy that can't be cracked with the right skills, and having people scattered all over the world gives you any necessary real world look-see )

Beyond that, there are the standard relationship issues, family issues, legal problems... Nearly anything that people might talk about in real life can pop up in chat - and has.

A lot of times, chatters will take the model into a private show when this happens to pull her out of the public eye. As I said, admins and owners will sometimes step in as well. Chatters have contacted the site to provide information to a model that couldn't readily be dispensed in open chat, or relayed it through admins.

Even a casual mention of something from the model can go places you'd never expect. We've actually had chatter who was a doc tell a model to go see her doctor when she complained about pain and he questioned her extensively about the degree, location, onset, etc. We later learned that she had appendicitis - exactly what the chatter had diagnosed ( while giving a disclaimer that she needed someone to see her in person and not to mention what he suspected in order to avoid tainting the live docs exam ). How she managed to try to ignore that and go on cam we'll never figure out.

Most all of that has its genesis in open chat. Once a model actually forms a bond of friendship with a chatter and has off-site contact, it's even more likely that she'll delve into her life, as she would with any friend in the real world.

That can naturally be dangerous, and is one of the reasons that off-site communication is discouraged or even forbidden ( the other is $$, because the model could use the site as a place to glean people to pay her directly for cam shows on Yahoo or something, giving her a larger cut and the chatter a cheaper thrill ) A cunning stalker can glean information that a model doesn't even realize she's giving away, given enough time and smooth talking.

On the cams

I spent a little while on the literotica cams, again. It’s variable. One girl was doing what I would call chatting – how old are you, have you been to “univ”, etc. Some seemed capable only of “hi bb” and “go pvt bb”.

I’ve realised that I’m starting to ignore the “shw yr tits” stuff – it must become a bit like background noise. There was one chatter who was saying stuff like “ugly tits” and “u suk”, but the free chat must be time-limited on literotica, because the “show” ended.

One chatter kept making what I thought were silly and annoying recommendations to “COME MEET ME IN AMSTERDAM AND BE WITH A REAL MAN” etc, to which the model was very polite.

The viewers – like, the other chatters – were even more variable. There were a few that attempted to be pleasant. One managed what I would call a real natural-sounding compliment: “You look great!” as opposed to stuff like “nice boobs” which could be well-meant, but sounded like textual drooling to me.

But then, as a social situation it’s very different to what I’m used to.

Wait until you start running into the Korean horndogs - they're everywhere.

You can recognize them by two giveaways. One might apply to any eastern/middle-eastern country ( and even a few former soviet bloc ) and it's simple enough. They're using ( bad ) online translators to send their text. This is the classic line ( which regularly appears several times daily ), always in all caps.

SHOE MY YOU OUSSY!!!!

If you don't see that at least once in any 24 hour period, no matter what nudie chat site you're on, it's a miracle. Barely similar words substituted, wrong tenses, messed up pronouns, and incorrect letters abound.

To recognize the Koreans, just look for tidles ~~~~~ For some reason, they add two or three to every line they type ( probably some sort of artifact from the translator they use )

The begging does blend into the background after a while, becoming white noise that anyone with an IQ higher than their shoe size ignores. How a model handles the beggars is critical to her success. She can either tune out all the badly spelled screams for skin, give little teases every so often, or try to engage the ones that understand her language in conversation to distract them from the endless requests.

I'd have put the rude asses with the "u suk" lines out of chat so fast that they wouldn't know what hit them. With the new Mute function, some of them are even easier to shut up. If you kick a chatter, they know that they've been removed from chat and can return. If you mute them and they don't realize it happened, then they're the only ones who can see their text on screen. They just keep babbling and don't bother anyone but themselves.

There are always plenty of people claiming they'll fly the model to some exotic location or another for nothing more than a hello. The reasoning behind these guys varies from a barely improved form of begging lead-up, stalkers, and guys who actually believe a model will fall for it.

To find an abundance of interesting chatters, you have to find an interesting model. If she can't hold your interest other than boggle-eyed stares at her boobs, then most of the really good chatters are going to move along. If you find yourself laughing at something model says or paying attention to the conversation she's engaged in, then there's a much higher likliehood that roaming chatters with some sense and courtesy are going to come on in and sit a spell.

Here's some things copied off Bailey's old website about free chat as a primer to newcomers that show enough promise for someone to direct them there.

Here's a quick list of 'things to do' in Bailey's Free Chat

The things her regular chatters do that keep her smiling, keep her awake, and generally make her happy to be working.

Many of these things will apply to most of the models at Peekshows as well, so pay attention and you'll learn some *very* valuable lessons about how to be a welcome chatter in Free Chat Rooms

1) *Chat* with her! This should go without saying.....
I mean, it's called Free CHAT for heavens sakes!
Bailey loves to chat with all her friends online, she hangs out in the chat as a chatter herself when she's not working on cam.
Tell her about yourself, what you've been up to, funny jokes you've heard, whatever... just chat it up! Keep the lovely lass from getting bored and falling asleep in front of the cam.
2) *Listen* to her
Bailey is going to give you a lot of clues....
well, actually... she'll tell you straight up in most cases... forget clues..
About what's going to make her happy.
Take the hints and run with 'em ~_^
3) Be Patient!
Bailey loves to show off her body. Sit back, relax, and wait.
(Chat in the meantime... see #1)
Whatever you want to see will likely come around in the next rotation ^_^
4) Get to know the regulars
Know who her regular chatters are, and treat them accordingly.
Get to know them. Odds are, if you like Bailey, you're going to like the people that like to hang out with her as well.
Bailey likes to join in on a conversation between chatters in her room just as much as a direct conversation with her
5) Make her laugh!
If you know me, (Darken) then you know she's rather fond of the off beat... the whacky... the downright silly. Don't be afraid to embarrass yourself by getting a little goofy in chat. If it's getting too out of hand, Bailey will let you know. Otherwise, the sillier things get, the more she usually likes it ^_^

Generally, the happier and more amused Bailey is with whoever is hanging out in her chatroom..... the sexier and more frequent the peeks at her *smokin* bod are. If you're needing a fix of Bailey Booty.... try and make her laugh. That will get you farther in 3 seconds than a half an hour of hinting or begging to see (insert body part here)

General Free Chat Tips

DO'S

Pay attention to the models. They will usually tell you what's on their mind, good or bad. You can avoid a lot of missteps by listening.

Pay attention to the Admins (green text). If the model is fed up with telling everyone something fifty times, the admin may take over to save her the trouble.

Get to know who's a regular chatter in the model's room. Yet another way to avoid making a major mistake. You can say the wrong thing to the wrong person and tick the model off fast. You don't want to give her regulars any lip, unless it's an obvious joke, just playing around.

Try to help out when newcomers ask questions. If you come to the models room often, odds are you can answer some of the more common questions for her. That way she can go on chatting instead of being bored answering the same old questions.

Fire back at chatters who become rude, insulting, or abusive to the models. Even if it's just to tell them to 'Go Away'. It makes the model feel good to have people standing up for her. Compliment the Model Let her know how good she looks, how funny she is, how much you enjoy talking to her, whatever. Just let her know the reasons you like being in her room.

Buy shows if you can. Even if it's just 5 minutes every couple of months. Most of the models work on commission, so they're only getting paid during private shows. Most models appreciate all the cool chatters who visit their rooms, even if they *never* buy a show. But if you can afford one, even a short one, go for it! Tell a friend. Point them to Peekshows and your favorite model(s) Tell them you'll beat them senseless if they make an ass of themselves

DO NOT'S

((Sure that most of these are a big 'Well, DUH!' to most of you, but just in case a newbie wanders in.....))

Buyers never beg, and Beggars never buy-The Peekshows Mantra

Demanding..... Show me UR (Whatever).... Stick (Whatever)(Wherever)... Not a good idea, the models are in charge of their rooms. You don't direct the action in free chat

Begging....... Can you show me UR (Whatever)..... Please stick (whatever)(wherever).... Again, not a good idea. The models are barraged with this stuff a mile a minute. It bores them, and usually ends up annoying them. Especially if you repeat it four or five times. They're not missing your posts.... they are ignoring them =P

Any kind of abusive, argumentative, insulting, or downright rude behavior...... Surefire way to find yourself on the end of a barrage of regular chatter abuse, quickly followed by the model or an admin removing you from the site..... repeatedly if necessary.

Con Jobs....... Show me UR (whatever) and I'll get a show...... The models hear this 100 times an hour. 99.5% of the people saying it are cheap freeloaders looking for free peeks. Even if you're serious, don't waste your time uttering variations of this line. Until you've gotten some shows with the model in question and proved your credentials, she's going to ignore you or worse.

Whining...... Why don't you answer me?... You answer everyone else in the room.... I said hello, are you ignoring me?....... There are usually a bare minimum of 20 people in the room at a *slow* time. It usually averages about 35 and can jump up close to the 80's. That's a lot of people babbling at one person for them to keep up. Patience. Whining is going to get you ignored, even if you weren't before.

Man. You weren't kidding.

By the way, I've finally had a quick look at one of the girls on peekshows.com, and the chat was very different from the literotica cams. Much more like I'd imagine normal chatrooms to be. Must visit some normal chatrooms, too.

And I have the vague beginnings of a believable journey for Vicki forming in my hindbrain. If it becomes more definite, I'll post it here for comment.

I'm still here too, just knuckled down to finish a chapter in the ARS chain that I'm already late on. My muse was being flighty again.

Looking forward to seeing the story :)

My muse and I are no longer on speaking terms

OK.

Originally I thought it would make Vicki exotic if she’d been in the game for a while, but now I’m wondering if it might work better if she’s a bit of a newbie. So she might be one of your “sweet girls who are just doing it for kicks and cash as they go through nursing school”, Dark. Maybe not nursing school, but. At the moment, I’ve got her at Florida State University, in Tallahassee. Either studying librarianship or accounting, but neither of those are critical.

She’s an argumentative lass, on the debating team as well as a cheerleader for the Seminoles, as well as studying, as well as working nights at Wal-Mart stacking shelves, as well as camming (at least in her senior and maybe junior years). Is that too much? From what I gather, it’s pretty common for college students to work and study at the same time in the US. Here in Oz, it’s becoming more common – back in my day, almost every uni student got a government allowance.

I’m thinking she and Jon could meet via a debating website, as well as via the cam site – using different handles, they’d never know. Until…

Until what? Not sure.

Anyway, it appears that I’ll have to understand more about the recent history of the internet and of American college student life. T1 connections in 1998 in the dorms is OK, but doesn’t it cost money to live in the dorms? And how could she cam from a room that she had to share with a stranger?

Ah. But it would suit the story if she’s at a point where the fun is starting to drain out of camming. It’s getting a bit jaded. From what you’re saying, Dark, that could be anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. Let’s say it’s eight months. That would mean she started camming in January or February of 2004 – the middle of the academic year, I think (if she’s still at college – in the current draft she’s been out of college for two years by 2004). Prior to that she could be uploading photos. To her own site, I guess. I must find out when MySpace got started.

On the other hand, I like the idea of her boyfriend buying her a webcam, then maybe getting upset when she goes public. Actually that works really well because, in the current draft, he’s just broken up with her boyfriend about an hour before her hook-up with Jon.

Alright, here’s my very drafty draft timeline (which contradicts half of what I said above):

First year at college
Sep 2001: Moves into the dorms. If this becomes more than backstory, it’ll have to take place in the context of 9/11

Second year at college
Mar 2002: Gets a webcam as a present from Steve during their 'twelve day stand'
Apr 2002: Starts MySpace profile
May 2002: Starts experimenting with online sex

Third year at college
Jul 2003: Moves into share house with Angie and Karin
Dec 2003: ACC title - Seminoles vs Gators; gets involved with Calvin
Jan 2004: Ends relationship with Calvin; starts working as a cam girl
Jun 2004: Jon starts hanging around cam girl sites harassing chatmonkeys

Final year at college
Jul 2004: Gets summer vacation work with a construction company, meets Carter
Aug 2004: Carter wants to 'free' her from the cam girl work
Sep 2004: Breaks up with Carter; hook-up with Jon

So, in fact, maybe the cam girling isn’t getting jaded. Maybe she gets more and more into it as her real-life sex life gets more and more disastrous.

Not sure where debating.com fits in.

If I disappear for a while, it’s because I’ll have my nose buried in ‘Naked on the Internet’.

Apologies for the delay. Your timeline looks fine, well within the range where the necessary technology is in place.

This is a real motivation for some of the girls that like being on cam. My most recent favorite is like that. She'd given up on flesh and blood men after a string of bad relationships, and being on cam gave her the release with at least a touch of safe companionship.

You should have some major turning point that clicks the chatter and the model together. It could be an emotional exchange, such as the chatter berating a chatmonkey up and down, running them off, when the model has had to step off cam to compose herself. It could be something similar to what happened with Bails and I. I was "singing" Monty Python songs to pass the time while she was in a private show. I always stopped singing when the model came back on live. When I did that and Bails typed the next line of "Bright Side of Life," we clicked together like two lego bricks.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you

I love the story about how you clicked with Bails, Dark. You have a lovely, plain voice when you tell real-life stories.

I'm away for couple of weeks and then I don't know if I'll have to return to this thread - I've got so much to work with, now.

Many, many thanks for all this, Dark (and others).

cam girl styles

I've spent a bit of time on peekshows, now, and there's a fair variety of styles, isn't there?

There's fully-clothed, for instance. Don't know what that's about. Maybe they're hoping it will make them look more innocent.

There's sitting on a couch typing, not looking up, chatting to friends about recent vacations in France. Fine, but not likely to drum up much business.

There's cute chick hanging about, teasing lightly. This appears to be the most common. I tried chatting with one of these while her chatroom was quiet (silent, actually), but she wasn't interested.

There's totally hot mama, insanely rauchy show, returning to the chatroom with dripping pussy after she's been away in private. Roaring chatroom, text speeding up the screen. This one worked for me. It was the intensity of it. The boys were so worked up, when she went to private, they started bickering amongst themselves, like a pack of chimps turning on themselves when they've lost the fight to be dominant.

So what kind of cam girl will Vicki be?

I want Vicki to be totally in control. Maybe she's studying IT and she sets up her own website. Hmmm. Hard to know how she'd drum up business.

I also paid a visit to the Yahoo chatrooms, looking for the girls that use the adult rooms to drum up business. They weren't hard to find. The last thing I want Vicki to be doing is hanging around 20 Yahoo chatrooms simultaneously sending 'where are all the guys at?' every minute or so. I'd like to think she had better things to do.

I'm talking about her like she's my daughter, aren't I? Hmmm.

The combination of those three is the key. Those friends are probably a mix of regular chatters, regular customers, and a few random people who've found their way into the conversation. It actually drums up more business than you might imagine. The people that spend the big $$ do so because they've established a relationship of some sort with the model. She can't ignore the rest of the room, but talking to those that keep her awake is absolutely necessary. The best models try to draw anyone who appears to have a few drops of blood still flowing to the big head into the conversation, and absolutely acknowledges when they contribute in some way.

The teases are also a necessity. Even if fully clothed ( which works, if done well ) she has to give little sultry hints of what lies behind that private curtain. A provocative pose, a flattering angle, a hint of the hidden, a peekaboob reward for someone who's chatted for a while and then hints that they'd faint if they saw those nipples pressing against that bra. A sexy little dance when a song she likes comes on the radio.

Coming out of a good show, she should have more than a little trouble composing herself ( unless it's someone who's given her the time to do so on his dime, which does happen ) If she's still writhing, sticky, and completely incapable of speaking or typing incoherantly, that's going to send pulse rates soaring. That guy who's been on the verge of pushing the private button for the last week or so is going to go over the edge, and he'll be next in line.

( If he's courteous, he'll give her some time to recover, and then ask if she's ready for more ;) )

Whenever the room was quiet, none of her friends were on, and nobody was taking her private, Bails used to say, "If none of you are going to talk, then I'm going to have some fun." She'd then give me a call, focus the cam on just her face and breasts, and invite me in for a taste off-cam where they couldn't see me, but knew damn good and well what was happening.

There's a tease for you.

It was pretty rare when we weren't interrupted by the "Incoming chat request" sound effect of a private show *laugh*

As far as advertising, I wouldn't go too far overboard. Make sure she has plenty of pics up on her private and public sections. Maybe a personal website on the server ( not out of the question, even though this is limited in scope at Peeks currently ) where she can post sound files, a little blog, fantasies, and maybe even have a private forum that she visits daily.

Hunting for people to come to her room shouldn't be necessary. People will find her on the site if she's interesting, exciting, and hot enough to melt the elastic in your underwear *laugh* Passive advertising is the key, not roaming Yahoo trying to drum up business with boobie teases or spamming message boards with peekaboo shots. Have plenty of sultry images, sounds, and words for people to find when browsing the website.

I'm still reviewing the suggestions I've picked up from the other admins, trying to catch the girls online to talk to them myself. I'm just not getting much sleep of late, and three hours of sleep a night for two weeks can overcome even the sexiest, most interesting room's ability to keep you coherant.

Ah, a fellow insomniac. If you find a cure, let me know.

The real problem I have is that Jon and Vicki have to leave their connection up and running while Jon deals with his kid who's woken up. Vicki has to be in a position where she doesn't care if the connection stays up.

I could achieve this by making Jon rich. I don't like that idea because I can't relate to it - I couldn't make him believable. Or likeable. Yes, I'm showing my prejudices.

Or, maybe Jon has won the show in a contest, or raffle or something. Not sure how that works.

Or (this is the most interesting, and therefore the most difficult) I could make Jon really, really want a one-hour session so badly that he's willing to part with $300 in advance. (Is that what it costs? I'm going on $5 per minute.)

Any thoughts?

That one time, incredibly long show is far from out of the question for even someone of moderate means. If the chatter decides that he wants a real chunk of time to spend alone with her, he might be saving for a month or two to accomplish that.

Some other ways to reduce the end cost during that savings period, which you could work into the story. When you first sign up, you get five free minutes. Every Tuesday evening at Peeks is happy hour, token costs are reduced. On holidays and anniversaries of the website, token costs are reduced - sometimes for the whole day and as much as 20% off. There are also contests on occasion where you can win free tokens. That could be darn near anything you can imagine, and could amount to as much as 20 minutes worth of that hour.

With a contest win, the "try me" tokens from the initial sign-up, and timed purchases ( once purchased, even at a discounted rate, the tokens are always good for the same amount of time ), he could cut the cost of that expensive show in half. Vicki would still get paid as if he'd paid full price.

So there's a way to bring your cost down to manageable levels for him. Vicki is getting paid while he's away taking care of the young one, so long as he or she hasn't closed the show. So, the only reason she really has to close the connection is worrying that he's losing the time he's paid for. He could make it clear that he doesn't care, he just doesn't want to risk coming back to discover that someone else has taken her private, and he might have to wait to spend the rest of his time with her.

Bails has actually ran across that exact situation more than once ( minus the contest win ) and she thought it was absolutely sweet and endearing that he wanted to keep the show open while he dealt with a phone call, someone at the door, etc., so that nobody could steal her away from him. Every time, she asked for special requests from the chatter in question once in free chat again, and took some special pictures for him - high res, and pretty much anything goes. Nobody else ever saw those images unless he showed them to someone else. They were his alone. Even though she has some incredible shots in that folder, I still don't use them on my webpages or anything else. Those guys still have exclusives that nobody else has, or ever will, see. She shot videos for a couple of them to make up for the lost time, too.

This is a fascinating thread in two ways -- watching a writer thinking out a story (I've been a writer and editor most of my adult life) and reading Dark's description of the webcam biz. This was a serendipitous discovery -- I just did a search to see if there's anyone from Tallahassee, and found this reference. I'm in town, so if you need any "local color, " Maddy, let me know. Not a student, though -- can't answer questions about the logistics of a dorm. A lot of students here have apartments near campus, including their own room in an apartment, and you conceivably could also have a cooperative (or participating) roommate who got talked into the game.

FSU is such a party school, it appears. Is that why you picked it? "-)

And good luck to LadyCibelle on editing. I just joined up not long ago as an editor, and already have seen her good advice on the editor boards.

Hey, there's plenty up there I want to respond to, but just quickly:

I just paid (not literally, as far as I could tell) a visit to iFriends.com.

One that is very interesting is AdultFriendFinder, you instant auto register and get the pass in your e-mail, no creditcard or nothing to register and worry about.

And yes and no, it is what you are thinking, and lots more. There is a model chat room thingie, and some are available for free where the girls are dressed, without much, and try to get you to purchase a private show. They say nude, dildoes, and whatever, but I never paid to go see. I got to know one model and would chat sometimes when she wasn't too busy. We just talked about how most guys were rude, and I would flirt and tell her she should try girls.

That is like a completely different section, on the like friendfinding section, there are chatrooms, for every subject, gay, masturbation, exibition, some chatters have webcams on, some don't.

The part I found most interesting was the free web cam section. For free they say you can only watch one at a time, which I often do, and wonder what kinda fast connect you would need to watch several if you paid, which I don't.

This section will show you a list of the people on cam and gets really interesting, a small pic from the cam, often mis-leading, and a small like sig line thingie, often mis-leading, funny or downright dead on the money "watch me come."

There are "friendfinders" on there. People dressed and on cam, wanting to chat and make friends, nothing more. The same wanting to chat and make friends and then meet and fuck. There are girls who have chatrooms elsewhere, they put on a show and then hold up a card saying come to my site XXX . com. And there are nasty ones, nice ones, bizarre ones.

When you click to watch the cam you can click to send a hello text, if the person on cam wants to chat she will open a textbox, she may be just chatting with you, or with ten people. There may be a hundred people watching, and she might just be chatting to one. If she wants to open the textbox, and chat, then there is an option for you to turn on your cam, if you have one and want. Some girls will suddenly rip off thier clothes and grab a big dildo, you never know.

There is crap, bizarre crap, and occasionally something nice. I got some PM's from a girl who I chatted with and later we went on yahoo chatcam a few times before my doggie chewed up my camera cord.

I once spent a pleasurable hour or so. An attractive english speaking woman from germany, she was well dressed and nice. I sent her a hello text and she opened the textbox. We chatted for a few minutes and she said she liked girls and wanted to know if I would like to see her do her ironing.

"Danger!!" "Danger!!" "Wierd fetish crap!!" flashed through my mind.

But she was cute as hell and I liked her, so I said "um ........ uh ............ OK"

She adjusted her cam to show an ironing board and hamper of clothes behind her.

Then she stood up, and stripped down to bra and panties and proceeded to iron all the clothes in the hamper.

When she was through she sat back at the computer and asked me what I thought, I told her I swallowed my gum .... we chatted a little more and said bye.

You might want to look at that site for chat stuff that is different than what ya'll have been discussing.

See ya, Lisa.
