Ok, so this may have been asked before...but I am unsure so I am going to ask.

I have a story series I am beginning (first chapter has already posted) called "The Exposure Chronicles" The stories are not linear or continuing. They are not traditional chapters in that sense. Each story/chapter is a stand alone story, chronicling a different event in a couples lives when they "exposed" each other...

As a result of this, I am wondering if a chapter of this series would qualify for the Halloween contest? I have an idea for the series that would fit perfectly for the Halloween contest coming up, but as it would end up being either Chapter 2 or 3 (depending on how much I write between now and then) I worry that it would not be accepted.

Again, it will be it's own stand alone story. The only connection to the other stories being the same characters, and a similar storyline. (exposing each other) there might be a brief mention of a previous event, but that's about it.

It would be acceptable to the contest as long as it isn't named as part of the series. You can change the name and add a chapter number after the contest.

So just submit it as its own story for the contest...and then after the contest, retroactively rename/add it to the series?

Not a problem. I have submitted stories that meet that criteria to contests and events several times.

What you describe are episodes and not traditional chapters. Your eligibility for contests will be determined by the association that your titling of the episodes implies.

If your next episode is titled "The Exposure Chronicles - Ch.02" or "The Exposure Chronicles - Part 02", that implies an association to an incomplete work. If the title was something like, "The Exposure Chronicles - The Next Adventure", the association is more clearly episodic.
