We always had oranges and grapefruit in our stockings as a child.
I just went looking for the article I read some time back about how Okies (the mother who raised me is half Okie, actually Irish, but everyone in my hometown would call my grandpa an Okie) tend to put oranges in stockings. And then fell down a rabbit hole about how the tradition goes even further back than the Great Depression.
Was grapefruit the punishment and coal equivalent? We always had oranges and grapefruit in our stockings as a child.

Actually it was a treat ...Was grapefruit the punishment and coal equivalent?![]()

Hard part........getting kids to church.....Kids and grandkids, food, presents, maybe go to church.....
The 2 girls are OK, but the 2 boys, not sure. I am like, "we arent asking much, U dumb shit."Hard part........getting kids to church.....
Good job , I see my daughter soon, at 6. We used to go find trees to cut. When I was raising my two kids, there was one Christmas I will never forget. I was divorced, my ex was fighting paying child support, I didn't have much money. One Christmas Eve, I decided I was going to spend my last $5 on a tree. I was going to give my kids a Christmas memory no matter how broke I was. So we went to a tree lot, and I'm thinking I'll be lucky to afford a 3 footer. My kids were probably 6 and 9 at this time. There weren't many trees left. The tree worker sold me a 6 footer for $5, with no bargaining. I was in tears. My kids were so happy.![]()
