Clan McCallister.

Omy god Brinna tought. She couldnt beleave she had forgotten in her to speak with Akira and inform her of what was going on, but then she had been in a slight temper and gone strate for the archery range. Och Lass .. Come join us at table and I'll explain.

Turning to Liard Duncan she hoped he didna take offence to Akira's outspoken ness. Most of her Clan new of what was happing for she had asked Ian to speak with them, but she had yet to make a formal anounce ment to the whole clan. Liard May i introduce my sister Akira MacGregor She said

Gin would forgive his master this one time for not being as strong as he should have been. It had been a long ride after a hard battle and he was probably wondering why he had been torn away from it to come here and meet with a noble woman. His master would be greatly surprised when he grew to know her more, in the short time that he had been in her pressance Gin had discovered how increadible she was. Her skill was just as good with a sword as many of the men his master had faught with in battle, and her archery was a talent he had not seen on this land. Only in his home land had he seen an archer so perfect. He watched once again silently in the shadows, her eyes shone the anger held by the previous insult of silence by his Lord. Gin may be a shadow but he was not above being a man and a look from eyes like that in true anger could probably bring the strongest man to his knees. He wondered again if it was time to make his pressence known to her, and either out of fear or more likely foolish pride he waited. Now was not the time, not in the pressence of his master. It was time to see the rest of the grounds and learn more about his surroundings. Quickly and silently he dashed out the dinning hall and threw the kitchen, pausing briefly to grab some left over roast some bread and a bit of fruit, making his way to the gardens just outside the kitchen.

Akira looked very confused, but as usual, when Brianna spoke, she listened, and nodded as she told her what was going on.

When she was introduced she did a rough courtesy and muttered "H'dya do?" to the new Laird. Saints alive he was handsome she thought. Inside Akira hoped that more men like him had come with him. She managed a shy smile and sat next to Brianna.

Beth

The night was full of peaceful noises, insects chirping softly to each other. Night creatures moving around always made for a musical sound to me. As I moved along the flowers I found myself humming softly to the creatures of the night.

Life here in the clan was good and I enjoyed being M'Lady's, lady in waiting. She was always a joy to be around and thought so much of others. I didn't mind the fact of my position much since I was always around her learning. I was just as good with the bow as she was but only her and I knew it. The sword wasn't my best subject but she was still teaching me, smiling with the remembered last lesson. My butt still hurt where I had landed on it, M'Lady didn't draw her shots but always made sure they never really hurt. That time I had been truly caught off guard and prompty put on my tailend for my efforts.

Moving on down the path I find myself heading towards the great tree in the center and the bench that I found my peace mostly at. Sitting upon it for hours at a time sometimes, just enjoying the gardens and fragrance of the night. Knowing that the diners would soon be leaving the hall, which would mean that my services for the night would soon be at an end.

Brinna sat quietly after explaining to her sister, and was releaved that nether she nor her sister had lost her temper. Thinking of the lists on the morrow she debated wether she should practice with Ian, or Mabye take Beth out and give her a few more lessons. Brinnia belived that everyone should learn to protect themselves.

Beth seemed to be comming along nicly with her training. Hmmm maybe i can practice with both of them. Now there's a thought. Smiling she looked up to see that the meal was almost ended, and manny of her clan's men were seeking there own pallets upon the floor, or heading for the garrison. Looking around Brinna new she would have to speak with some of the maids and have the rushes cleand, and freash ones put down.

Rising from her place at the table she looked over at her intended. He hadnt said anything after her sister enterd and she still didnt know wether or not he would join her on the morrow, but she would wait and see. I bid you good evening Liard. The hour grows late and tis time my sister and i sought our beds. Turning to Akira she said. Come lass tis time ta go..

Brinna new once they reached their chambers her sister would start asking questions and put voice to Brinnas own fears about the arrangement King James decreed.

The next morning Brinna found herself out on the lists, practicing her sword with Ian. She new Beth would join her shortly, as was their usuall routine. Brinna Ian snapped.. Brinna forced her attention away from her thoughts and back to her training Ian glared at her. Pay attention i've no a wish ta seperate yer head from yer sholder's for yer foolishness.. .Aye Ian.. She replyed raising her sword, and following his instructions.

Walking up noticing Ian yelling at M'Lady I give him a furious scowl. Then nodding to M'Lady, I pick up the practice sword and step into the battle. Taking hits from both M'Lady and Ian.

I loved our practice times, and I felt that I was getting better. Tho no match for Ian, I felt that I could hold my own if need be. To protect the clan and myself I would be willing to train and kill.

"He's not very talkative M'Lady nor does he seem overly joyed about being here with us. Mayhaps things will work themselves out. I am wondering what shall happen if it doesn't I know you would not disgrace the clan but..." Taking another stinging blow from Ian I figure it is time to shut my wayward mouth and concentrate on blocking with the sword and not my hide.

Grinning as she watched Beth receive a reminder blow from Ian. Then frowned over her words giving them some thought. Quickly ducking a blow from Ian, and blocking his next move. I’ve no a wish ta hurt the clan, but tis better him than my cousin. She said catching a blow from Ian, and landing on her back side. Blocking Ian’s next blow she rolled to her feet laughing.

Once their practice had ended Brianna put her sword, bow away not wishing for her fiancée to see them. Keeping only her dagger at her side, she decided that she would keep on her tunic, and leggings. Mounting her horse, as he joined her she showed him the grounds. Introducing him to Angus their blacksmith, before leading him to the village, and introducing him to the rest of the clan. She had packed a small lunch to take with them for they would be gone past the noon meal.

They had stopped in a meadow by a river not far from the village. He didn’t speak much his only interest seemed to be in what connections she could bring him. He already new that she had James favor, and seemed interested that one of her ally’s were the McIllioch known for their berserker blood, and thru them the Laird Sidheach James Lyon Douglas his wife and clan. There were many other clans’ near who were at war with the other or stolen cattle in a raid the death of a clan member or some such. Twas the way of the highlands.

Returning from their ride Brianna went inside to see that all was ready for the evening meal. Sighing as she wondered what James had been thinking to send her this man....

Gavin Mcneil let his lopng hair swirl about his unshaven face. Tall and lean, he had spent most of his morning checking out what the Clan Mcallistar had already achieved. It was not spectacular, at least not to his own eyes. Gavin had seen, and probably could do as good a job as this.

And yet, from what he had heard, it was all being done by a woman. A woman unwed, searching desperately for a man before she lost all of this. It seemed a sad thought, almost. He knew of people who had lands that did not treat them as such.

She was a woman though, and a woman could not do this on her own. She would need a man, eventually, as all women did. He had seen it from every village to clan, to city, and kingdom he had met. Women could act tough and square headed, bully around and pretend arrogance, but in the end, they were all scared, and needed a man.

He had arrived with his cousin, one of the generals in his armies. A fine warrior of only 24, already battle hardened and seen more than some old men would claim in their wildest stories. With a tall, lean build, flowing red hair, and a wicked smile that melted hearts, he stared at the one woman with a keen interest.

"You keep leaving your flank open."

Normally, if he had said this to a woman, a group of men might laugh, or chuckle with the languid adolescence of immaturity. In truth, if he had said it to any other woman, he would have meant it in that childish and naive way. Yet, when he looked at this woman fight, he meant none of it, rather that of a hardened soldier giving another some advice.

Beth was her name, if he wasn't mistaken. One of the Mistress's assistants. He had seen her when they arrived yesterday, just as firey and beautiful as most of the women in this northern country. He had sworn he fell in love ten times before making it to the open courtyard.

"Here," He moved behind her, a bright scent of sweat and lavender caught him as he pressed his body against hers. For a moment he seemed lost in it, like a memory that refused to let him go. And then it was gone. He mentally shook himself, helping with her form.

"The sword is your third arm, milday. It is an attachment," He made her buck her hips, lower to the ground, the sword up against her, helping her balance.

"You move it with your wrist, simple movemets. Your arm brings the strength. When you need to jab or strike, use the arm, make it powerful, but to move the sword, make it simple, lithe. Use your wrist..."

He gave a smile as he saw the instruction being used.

"You are very good, milday."

Beth

Nodding to Ian as I step back from the practicing. Turning to the stranger, "Thank ye that was strong advice. I knew I was open but for the life of me blade it just wasn't moving fast enough to cover." Laughing lightly as I say this, my eyes taking in the man before me.

An imposing figure to say the least, standing tall and proud, tho unshaved I could tell it was from travel and not normal. His long hair whipped about his face as he stood there. His stance told me that he was a true warrior one whom had more then likely seen more battles then most veterns could boost.

"Are you by chance looking for M'Lady Brianna? She has gone for a ride with her Laird," looking up at the sky for but a moment before looking back to the stranger. "They should return soon, let me inform the staff to prepare you comfort, a bath, place to clean and then you might catch her and the Laird at noon fast."

Nodding my head and smiling to the man I turn to Ian, "Thank you Ian was a great practice as always," rubbing my backside slightly to give grain to my words. Then remembering my manners, I turn back to the stranger, M'Lord I am called Beth if you should have need of me please do not hesitate. I believe the stable boy can handle your steeds. Pointing to the stables, before turning and heading into the Keep.

It was almost time for Noon fast and I knew M'Lady would want to clean up before eating, as was her custom. Calling out to several of the girls in the hall, for the tub to be brought up to M'Ladies appartments along with hot water. Looking about me I see several lads standing about, "look lively we have vistors make them Welcome." Then stepping into the kitchen to check on cook. Smelling the delicious aromas coming from several of the dishes setting out to be served. Giving a smile and nod of approval with each one to the cook before heading up the back stairs.

Heading to M'Ladies apartments, knowing soon she would be here and would be in a hurry as usual. Arranging items about and pulling out her noon attire, taking the chosen dress out to be brushed out. Setting it upon the bed, then sitting down to await her entrance.

My thoughts drifting back to the stranger, who was he and was he here for Lady Brianna. If he was indeed here to cause her harm then his instruction today would be grand help to use against him if need be. No matter that he was handsome, no matter that his body close to mine was desired. If he had come to harm then I would do my best to return the favor ten fold.

Brianna smiled as she entered the hall in time to hear Beth giving orders to the maids, and complementing the cooks before heading up stairs. Brianna decided to give Beth a few moments before heading up the stairs. Their practice earlier had been a long one and from the looks of Beth her's had been even longer.

Making her way up the stairs Brianna entered just as the maids had finished filling the tub and Beth had laid out her dress for the evening. Brianna seriously wished at times that women were aloud to dress as men do. She sometimes felt that dresses were a label saying you woman weak. Shaking her head to clear it of her thoughts Brianna closed the door and begin removing her clothing so that she could bath, and dress for the meal.

Seeing the look on Beth’s face Brianna new she was waiting for her to tell her how the ride with the Laird had gone. Sinking down in the water getting her hair wet, and then coming up for air. Ohhh Beth I just Donna know. What could James ha been thinking ta send me this man. In truth I half expected my cousin ta arrive long afore now, ta ether place his own claim or try and stop the wedding. She said with a frustrated frown. Sinking down in the water to rise her body.

Standing she stepped from the tub taking the towel Beth handed her, and begin drying off. Before the fire place as Beth helped her dress, before calling the maids to remove the tub.

Beth

I heard M'Lady talking but most of it didn't sink it much, instead my mind kept wandering back to the man in the courtyard. He had seemed very nice, and I had just brushed him off mainly. I hoped he hadn't gotten the wrong impression but it was not proper for me to be socializing with a man of such great honor.

Nodding my head to M"Lady at all the right times, moving about knowing what needed doing and when without actually having to think about it. Soon I had M'Lady dressed and her hair adorned as was befitting her.

Going to the door waving in the chambermaids, watching as they quickly remove the tub and used drying sheets. Before speaking for the first time, "M'Lady might I ask whom the new Lord is? He has excellent fighting skills which he helped me with mine earlier. But I do not remember seeing him before and am curious, I know tis not honestly my buisness but..." Letting my voice trail off realizing that my face had turned a pretty pink, casting my eyes to the ground in shame. Knowing I might have over stepped my station by asking such questions, "I am sorry M'Lady my mouth seems to have gotten the better of me this night."

Upon hearing M'Lady's soft laugh I look up to see her humor, shaking her head at me. I seen no anger, just the softness of M'Lady and again I felt thankful that I had come to be here with her. Smiling back at her, "we should get you down to the tables before your new Laird takes offence. I shall again be within the gardens if you shall have need of me. I believe first tho I might slip into the tubs myself and clean up. Todays practice was exciting to say the least." Remembering once again the sharp stings of the flat bladed swords, as well as strong arms.

Watching as M'Lady nods her approval of my choice, then heading out the door and down to the main room. I follow a bit slower taking a different turn then down the stairs. Instead to my small room just off from M'Ladies, pulling forth clean garments. Slipping quietly down the back staircase, making it to the public baths. Quickly taking care of my needs then dressing in a soft cotton gown dyed a soft hue of purple. I make my way to the gardens, once again seeking the quiet and tranquility there. Sitting under the tree to braid my hair in a single long plaint down my back.

Brianna headed down stairs wondering who the man Beth talking about was. Stepping into the main hall she noticed that she was the first to arrive. Walking over to the hearth, as the tables were still being set.

She sat down in one of the chairs and picked up her lute playing a few tunes while she waited for others to arrive. Ian came over letting her know of Beth’s slow but sure progress, and again informed her of a strange man. Leaving her lute beside her chair Brianna wondered if she should go and search out this stranger or wait for him to come to her.

Remembering that Duncan had mentioned bringing his cousin Gavin with him. Brinna wondered if mabye Beth had met one of McNeil's men, or even Gavin himself.

Seeing Laird McNeil enter the Great hall his captain of the guard, and cousin at his side Brianna smiled and rose to greet them. Good eve Ducan wont ye join me in the noon meal. My sister should be joining us anon. she said extending her hands in greeting with a smile.

Gavin felt a little better after his shower and shave. The people in this keep seemed most hospitable to his needs. By the time he was prepared for dinner, he felt himself a new man. The battlefield had been scrubbed off him, and only his fierceness remained.

He bowed, politely when he was supposed to. A general knew of good manners, had been taught them as soon as he was given men to lead. Still, it didn't seem right to him. The clothes too chaff, the room too elegant. He would prefer to share a joint of meat with the men over a nice roaring fire, telling stories of impossible odds and great victories.

He gave a look around the servants dashing here and there, hoping to catch a glimpse of the nymph he had seen earlier. Training, as a woman, he thought she held some prestige class here. He didn't see her honey colored smile, or long beautiful hair, though.

With a disgruntled sigh, Gavin stood behind his cousin, and waited for the long evening to stretch out before him.

OOC::: I have asked Laurel to change this thread over to SRP for us I am hoping it will help bring in more players to the thread. Please continue to post here until it is moved to SRP

Brinna did her best to smile thru out the meal as once again Duncan seemed to be ignoring her. She always enjoyed the company of her clan hearing their stories of battle against the english, but lately they had been quiet...

Duncan's continued ignoring of her was reflecting on the clan and the way they reacted towards him, and his men. Brinna decided she would go speak with her friend. Angus the blacksmith on the morrow and see what he thought of Duncan.

Glancing over at Gavin she could tell that he would rather be elsewhere, and she could well understand the feeling having felt it many time's herself. Mi Lord Gavin? Would ye care ta hear a story.? My Lady's Maid Beth is a fine story teller.

Waving over one of the servants she waited for him to approach before asking. Huge if you would please... Go and fetch Lady Beth I believe she is in the gardens under one of the trees

Smiling as the boy nodded and rushed off to find Beth. Beth had always been a wonderful story teller, and many of the clan member’s as well as the children enjoyed her stories greatly, and respected her for them.

IC:

Megan had trailed the Lord Duncan McNeil and the brother Gavin. She knew that they were aware of her presense, but since she had been no threat to them, they didn't acknowledge her. Megan respected the two men. They had left her a small fire each time they left the area and even dried bread and meat.

She had followed them after she had seen their entourage move through her villiage. Megan had been looking for work, since her family had died from the disease that killed most of her villiage elders and the small children. She had buried her parents earlier that week and had just laid her twin brothers into their tiny graves beside that of her little sister.

Megan had been about to give up hope, when she heard the massive group move through her town. The sickness was clear and all the infested homes burned as well as those who had survived bathed constantly. When Megan had heard that the Lord was on his way to his hand-picked wife, she felt a plan form in her head.

A bride to be and groom to be would need new clothing. Looking at her small delicate fingers, worn with little pricks here and there, she flexed them. She was very talented with her stitching and she knew she was good at making the most beautiful piece of clothing. She decided to follow the group.

Staying only one day behind them, she began to trail after them. After just the first night, she knew that they were aware of her. They had left her a fire and some food. Megan had been curious as to why they didn't question her, but she decided to keep her being hidden from them. She wondered if they had sent someone to follow behind her, but she never sensed them.

She realized they were heading towards the McCallister keep and a thrill shot through her belly. Megan had admired Lady Biannna for years. Though she had never met the woman, she had heard of her exploits. Megan had always wanted to be a Lady, fair and kind and strong. To have a chance to meet the famed beauty would be a gift all its own, but to sew for her, that would be extremely more then she hoped for.

Megan wanted to arrive at the same time as the group, so she walked all night, following them, only taking the food they left her and extinguishing the fire they had been kind enough to leave behind. She waited now on the outskirts of the bailey. Everyone was talking and so far her presence was not noted.

Beth

I loved the gardens so when someone came to get me it was with regret that I left them. But M'Lady required my presence for a story, smiling and shaking my head. I did not mind much with telling a story but for guests and her new Laird to be, well tho I would feel foolish for doing it I would. At least to please M'Lady, hopefully the Laird would have left by now, hope blosemed within my chest.

Perhaps the gentle Lord from earlier would be there and I would indeed get to see him again. He had been pleasing to the eye, and had a strong arm for training. I wondered if there would be another time that he would show me how to weild the sword better or if maybe that would be the end of that.

Turning the corner into the inner bailey I notice a woman not of our actual clan standing there looking slightly lost. Walking up to her quietly, I look around before speaking to her quietly. "Might I ask what you are doing here and what it is you need? Your not from here, where is it that you come from." Looking her over I notice that she must have been traveling for a few days, her clothing dusty and worn were still not rags. She could have used a bath, and maybe some food but other then that nothing of a weapon or such on her.

Her eyes move to me, eyeing me as if I would harm her, which yes I might if I had thought she was some danger to my clan. But this woman looked to be no danger, if anything she was in danger and needed help. "Come inside you can tell your tail to M'Lady and her Laird, I am sure they will be most interested in what you might have to say." Motioning for her to proceed before me into the main hall, knowing that at least some of the guards were there if not all since I had been called for the story telling. "I am called Beth, might I ask you your name?"

All thoughts of my story telling were now forgotten, now I just wanted to know who this woman was and her needs. Not that we minded adding to our clan, we always welcomed newcomers.

Walking straight up the big table to stand before M'Lady and her court, waiting as was my duty to be noticed. Bowing my head quietly so as not to enrage the new Lord by perhaps showing any disrespect. Only looking up to M'Lady when I hear her voice call my name.

Megan O'Malley looked at the woman. She could not yet determine if this woman that now stood beside her was fair in heart or wicked. Megan took stock of her surroundings. She refused to speak to anyone but the Lady Brianna or the Lords Duncan or Gavin.

She would keep her business hers, for to tell anyone of her skills meant that perhaps, the seamstress at the keep would hear, and then her request would be thwarted.

She eyed the men. The two of them were now closer then she had ever been to them. She looked at the older, her eyes scanned him quickly. He was tall and big like her father had been before he had died, his body whracked with disease. His eyes were blue, as blue as the gem she had once seen on a passing nobleman's finger. He would make a fine Lord for Lady Brianna.

Looking away from him, as his eyes glanced at her noting her boldness, she allowed her eyes to travel at will to his cousin. Gavin stood there eyeing the woman that stood beside her, "Good," she thought, "let his eyes stay upon her, while I avoid the lechorous stares of others." Megan noticed that he was tall also, his body was more lean then his cousin's, but he too showed fine features. His hair fell in red waves.

She felt something then, a presence. Quickly she looked up and saw him, her eyes locked with his and they stared, sizing each other up. She frowned as he leapt away. He would boast watching, he was hiding and no one hid without reason. She turned her attention back to the Lady, the one that held her fate in her hand but didn't know it.

Sitting at the table Brinna could feel eye's watching her again and looked to see if maybe Duncan was watching her but no .. it was not to be. Glancing around she wondered who it was that watched her so..

Brinna smiled seeing Beth approched a young red haired woman at her side. Looking over at Gavin as he watched Beth approche. Brinna new that it was he that Beth had met earler in the day. Beth welcome I would introduce ye ta Gavin McNeil. My Liard Duncan's cousin.. If ye'r feeling up to it i would ask ye ta tell us a tale, but first who be the young lassie ye have brought afore us?

She asked looking the young girl over, she could tell that she was tired, and from the set of her jaw as she studdied the Lords at the table, Brinna would guess very pround, and stubborn. Please come froward, and introduce ye'r self lass i'll no bite ye. Brinna said.

Megan's eyes glanced once more at the two men who had aided her in her arrival to the McCallister keep, before looking at the Lady Brianne.

"I have traveled behind the McNeil clan, your ladyship. I am looking for employment as a seamstress." Megan felt the eyes of everyone in the hall on her included the leaping fool on the rafters above, she refused however to cower to any of them. Her hair hung low, touching her waist, it's unruliness, in need of taming.

"My family and most of my villiagers are dead. A sickness swept through our villiage. It is gone now, I say this to rest your mind at ease that I have not brought it with me." The collective mumbling was quickly stopped as Brianna's eyes darted around the room.

Megan continued, "My name is Megan O'Malley. I hail from the villiage Dolluth, where my father was a carpenter there. My mother was a seamstress, as was her mother before her. I have buried my twin brothers and my little sister along side the bodies of my dead parents."

She watched a look of sorrow pass over the woman who stood before her, and heard others slowly moving closer hoping to hear her tale. She felt herself ease on her nervousness as she continued with her tale.

"The McNeil clan moved through my villiage and I heard talk among the men that they were on their way here because the elder McNeil wished to wed with the Lady Biranna McCallister. Knowing that a new bride to be would need new clothing for such a wonderous occasion, I decided to follow them here."

Megan looked over to the two leaders, running her eyes over their features once more, before continuing her story. Turning back to the mistress of the keep, she explained, "They knew I was there. Each morning when they left their camp, a small fire awaited me, as well as food. They left me alone, while I kept hidden from them. My only reasoning for that is because I didn't pose a threat to them. When I realized that they would arrive here today, I quickly ate the food they had given me, extinguished the fire and traveled all day without rest."

Taking a final breath she ended her tale, "I wanted to arrive at the same moment, so as not to make a fine showing of myself, however it seems that has been for naught, since I am now on display before the whole keep. If you have need of a seamstress, I will pledge my loyalty to you, and do all I can to protect you and yours." With that thought, Megan thought of the being that hung on her words, she knew he was there, he just refused to acknowledge her, that was fine. She would protect her ladyship from him as well.

Brinna smiled moved by the woman's tale and indeed her own seemstress was getting on in years and would be gald of aid. You are welcome here lass, and shall indeed be my new seemstress, but please have a care wtih old Alma's feelings she has been my seemstress for years but is in need of a younger pair of hands.

Brinna waved over one of the servents who hovered near by. Collen please show Megan where it is she is ta stay.. Beth will show ye ta old Alma when ye've settled lass. Should ye need any meterial all ye needs do is ask Beth or myself and it shall be provided for ye, or if ye prefer ye can go to the village. Brinna said as Collen stepped up to Megans side asking her to follow.

Brinna glanced up chatching the shadow she had seen upon her liards arrivel and wondred who it was.

Megan nodded her head to her new Lady and followed the servant to her room. As she moved she felt the eyes of the two Lords, her ladyships and many others following her. She sensed the rafter's little mouse jumping to and fro until she disappeared away from his eyes. She knew he would watch her, not caring what he saw, Megan squared her shoulders and moved further into the keep.

The servant pointed her into a small room, Megan turned and thanked her before closing the door behind her. She leaned back against the door, locking it firmly. Her room was small and dark. A candle sat in one corner on a small table. A small bed rested against one wall and a small fireplace waited to be used in the opposite corner. There was a sliver of light that reached in to give her some of the daylight that snuck in.

Shivering slightly, Megan moved over to the fireplace and loaded some of the logs into it, then reaching up she felt the flint and steel and proceeded to light her hearth. A small spark soon became a nice warm fire. Megan laid down and rested for a moment, wanting to relax until the woman Beth came for her. Slipping into slumber, Megan saw in her dreams a pair of eyes, then several, she was standing surrounded by strangers, unsure of who were her friends and who were her foes.

Gavin's eyes were sharp, but not sharp enough to peel through the deep shadows of the building, the rafters spiderweb clutches of whatever lay up there, looking down at everything. He was good, and clever, and smart, but not that good and clever and smart.

However, more than one person glanced up worredly, which was about as contagious as a yawn, and Gavin looked up as well. He didn't know, but he felt uneasy all of a sudden. How odd, was there something up there?

He was about to ask, but then his eyes fell on Beth, and a smile formed on his lips. Whatever uneasy wrong feelings left him, and he just ate quietly, glancing at her from across the room.

"Perhaps a story would be good," He offered, his eyes clear and calm, "Please, Beth. Tell us a tale."

Megan awoke sometime later, her fire had gone out and her stomach growled. She got up and straightened her hair. Pulling out a few of her belongings she laid them on the bed. She grabbed some leather string and pulled her long, thick curls away from her face and secured the band behind her head. She wanted to get a bath, so she grabbed one of her clean dresses and slipped out of her room.

Moving quietly, hoping not to cause to much of a scene she, moved along the halls of the keep. Her nose led her to the kitchen and she plucked a slice of bread from a plate and recieved a sharp tap to her hand, from the cook. The servant glared at her, allowed her to keep the bread then ushered her out of the kitchen. She slipped behind the crowd that was still assembled infront of her mistress, thinking to herself, that she was glad she was no mistress of a fine keep, all business and no play.

Megan was happy with her station in life, she had managed to keep herself fed and clothed. Though she found herself alone now, more then she ever was before, she was better off then some. She walked through the courtyard and the porticullis and into the outdoors. As they were traveling she had heard of the lands surrounding the McCallister keep. A river was spoke of a small but fully stocked lake. Megan headed out searching for those things, whichever came first she didn't care. She just wanted to get clean.

Walking along a well worn path, Megan heard the sounds of gurgling water. Smiling she picked up her steps then saw a small glimpse of a lake. Turning towards it, she quickly found herself over looking a beautiful sight. Swans and ducks gathered on the bank as well as in the water itself. The scent of flowers filled the air and the sun sparkled on the water.

Peeling off her clothes, Megan quickly moved into the water. She swam back and forth in the cool liquid, the sun beating on her skin and touching her flesh, burning it lightly. A few more freckles would appear on the porcelian skin she kept concealed from prying eyes. She leaned her head back into the water and scrubbed the dust from its locks. As she ran handfuls of sand across her skin, she erased the grime from her body as well as any bugs that may have tried to live on her, while she had spent the night outside.

Finally feeling clean, she walked out of the water, the droplets glistened from her body, as the slipped down her white skin. She picked up her dirty dress and bent down on her knees to wash the grim from it as well. Lifting it up, she wringed the water from it and from her hair, before doaning the clean dress she had brought with her. Megan decided to leave her hair undone, the curls heavy and wet hung loose behind her back.

Smiling over her freshly scrubbed body, she headed back up the path, and into the keep once more. Noone the wiser as to her having left, except perhaps the cook who, had smacked her for taking some bread. Megan entered the kitchen smiled and reached for a second slice of bread, grabbed it and an apple then headed towards her room. Megan's giggles filled the hall as she went back to her room to wait for the woman named Beth to come and take her to meet the old seamstress Alma.

Beth

Blushing furiously seeing the handsome young Lord from earlier looking my way. Hearing him say that indeed a story would be good to hear, giving a nod of my head indicating that I did indeed hear his request. "A story it shall be M'Lady one of laughter and fun, a joyious occasion of life and one that the children will love as well as the older ones in the room." My eyes taking in all those around me, resting upon the Lord for a full minute before continuing along their way.

Starting off with a soft voice one full of wonder, to catch all the attention in the room. Once upon a time, when the Field-Mouse was out gathering wild beans for the winter, his neighbor, the Buffalo, came down to graze in the meadow. This the little Mouse did not like, for he knew that the other would mow down all the long grass with his prickly tongue, and there would be no place in which to hide. He made up his mind to offer battle like a man.
"Ho, Friend Buffalo, I challenge you to a fight! "he exclaimed in a small, squeaking voice.

Using my voice I begin to squeak in a very soft sound adding more wonder to my story. Feeling myself getting caught up in the thrill of telling it.

The Buffalo paid no attention, thinking it only a joke. The Mouse angrily repeated the challenge, and still his enemy went on quietly grazing. Then the little Mouse laughed with contempt as he offered his defiance. The Buffalo at last looked at him and replied carelessly:

"You had better keep still, little one, or I shall come over there and step on you, and there will be nothing left! "

"You can't do it! "replied the Mouse.

"I tell you to keep still,"insisted the Buffalo, who was getting angry. "If you speak to me again, I shall certainly come and put an end to you! "

"I dare you to do it! "said the Mouse, provoking him.

Thereupon the other rushed upon him. He trampled thc grass clumsily and tore up the earth with his front hoofs. When he had ended, he looked for the Mouse, but he could not see him anywhere.

"I told you I would step on you, and there would be nothing left! "he muttered.

Just then he felt a scratching inside his right ear. He shook his head as hard as he could, and twitched his ears back and forth. The gnawing went deeper and deeper until he was half wild with the pain. He pawed with his hoofs and tore up the sod with his horns. Bellowing madly, he ran as fast as he could, first straight forward and then in circles, but at last he stopped and stood trembling. Then the Mouse jumped out of his ear, and said:

"Will you own now that I am master? "

"No! "bellowed the Buffalo, and again he started toward the Mouse, as if to trample him under his feet. The little fellow was nowhere to be seen, but in a minute the Buffalo felt him in the other ear. Once more he became wild with pain, and ran here and there over the prairie, at times leaping high in the air. At last he fell to the ground and lay quite still. The Mouse came out of his ear, and stood proudly upon his dead body.

"Eho! "said he, "I have killed the greatest of all beasts. This will show to all that I am master! "

Standing upon the body of the dead Buffalo, he called loudly for a knife with which to dress his game.

In another part of the meadow, Red Fox, very hungry, was hunting mice for his breakfast. He saw one and jumped upon him with all four feet, but the little Mouse got away, and he was terribly disappointed.

All at once he thought he heard a distant call: "Bring a knife! Bring a knife ! "

When the second call came, Red Fox started in the direction of the sound. At the first knoll he stopped and listened, but hearing nothing more, he was about to go back. Just then he heard the call plainly, but in a very thin voice, "Bring a knife!"Red Fox immediately set out again and ran as fast as he could.

By and by he came upon the huge body of the Buffalo lying upon the ground. The little Mouse still stood upon the body.

"I want you to dress this Buffalo for me and I will give you some of the meat,"commanded the Mouse.

"Thank you, my friend, I shall be glad to do this for you,"he replied, politely.

Pausing long enough for a deep breath, noticing that my audience has now gotten bigger. The children of the clan moving closer, as well as several of the guards. As my voice once again takes on the telling of the story, adding the sounds where needed.

The Fox dressed the Buffalo, while the Mouse sat upon a mound near by, looking on and giving his orders. "You must cut the meat into small pieces," he said to the Fox. When the Fox had finished his work, the Mouse paid him with a small piece of liver. He swallowed it quickly and smacked his lips.

"Please, may I have another piece?" he asked quite humbly.

"Why, I gave you a very large piece! How greedy you are!"exclaimed the Mouse. "You may have some of the blood clots,"he sneered. So the poor Fox took the blood clots and even licked off the grass. He was really very hungry.

"Please may I take home a piece of the meat?"he begged. "I have six little folks at home, and there is nothing for them to eat."

"You can take the four feet of the Buffalo. That ought to be enough for all of you!"

"Hi, hi! Thank you, thank you!" said the Fox. "But, Mouse, I have a wife also, and we have had bad luck in hunting. We are almost starved. Can't you spare me a little more?"

"Why,"declared the Mouse, "I have already overpaid you for the little work you have done. However, you can take the head, too!"

Thereupon the Fox jumped upon the Mouse, who gave one faint squeak and disappeared.
Adding a high pitched squeak for the part of the mouse. Listening to the children laugh as well as several of the guards, ladies and servants around the room. Noticing that all had been quiet during my tale, of the fox and the mouse.

"There is more of the tale my lady but it is only a warning to our wee children in the room who would understand. If you are proud and selfish you will lose all in the end. So beware Pride and selfishness at the same time can cost you more then you wish it to."

Turning to look at the children in the hall before looking back to the Lord's and M'Lady. Smiling softly as I look at the Lord Gavin, turning back to M'Lady asking, "Is there another that you wish to hear M'Lady or shall I tend to our newest guest?"

OOC:: I must add my thanks to the ppl who write childrens stories for without them I would not have found this wonderful tale.

Brinna laughed in delight enjoying Beths storie greatly. Aye Beth ye may tend ta our new Clan memeber, may hap if yer feeling up ta it another night ye can finnish yer tale. Brinna said letting her go. Seeing that the meal was at an end and people were beginning to leave. Brinna excused herself from her guest's and went to sit in the guardens for awhile.
