DEJr is the man.

Still ain't got the fever back since the old man died. After four years I'm startin' to wonder if it's ever gonna happen.

I fell asleep before the end and too lazy to look it up

Jeremy Mayfield won the race. Unfortunately, the house I was staying at over the weekend didn't have TNT, so I missed the race. :(

NASCAR pitches in for Katrina

Even if you don't give a flip about stock car racing, you have to admire the big heart of NASCAR competitors, tracks and sponsors.
As the week progressed, and the damage inflicted by Hurricane Katrina to the Gulf Coast States became more and more evident, the e-mail box filled with news of fund-raisers, donations and facilities use.

International Speedway Corp., headquartered in Daytona Beach, quickly stepped up to the plate by pledging $1 million in money, goods and services.

Talladega Superspeedway, the only ISC track in the region, has dispatched one of its mobile kitchens to the disaster area. The kitchen will provide up to 500 meals each day to workers assisting in relief and recovery efforts.

"(ISC) facilities across the nation are committed to helping get residents affected by the storm back on their feet," Talladega president Grant Lynch said, calling the Gulf Coast region a "horrible devastation."

JOHNSON'S DONATION

Driver Jimmie Johnson made a personal donation of $48,000 to the relief efforts. He drives the No. 48 Chevrolet.

"My wife Chandra and I have been watching some of the accounts of the devastation and we felt that we needed to help in some way," Johnson said. "We just feel horrible."

Some of NASCAR's truck drivers got a first-hand taste of the destruction in the region. Tom McCrimmon, who drives the truck that hauls Kurt Busch's No. 97 Ford around the country, took I-20 from North Carolina to California last week.

He said crossing the Mississippi was "spooky" and reported "there was no electricity all the way through Mississippi and on into Louisiana."

There is talk of a supply caravan in the near future similar to the famed "Hay Ride" in 1986 when a long line of NASCAR haulers carried hay to farmers in the drought-plagued Midwest.

Peter Jellen, who drives a truck for Joe Gibbs Racing, said there's talk of loading some 40 NASCAR team tractor-trailers with supplies in North Carolina and making a quick run down to the Gulf Coast.

"There's talk about it," he said. "Nothing final, but I told them to sign me up if it happens."

BIG HEART BEAT

NASCAR's primary sponsor, Nextel, said it was "marshalling its forces" and preparing to send hundreds of engineers and technicians into the devastated area to restore vital communication services.

The strike force was bringing 3,000 walkie-talkie handsets to distribute to emergency crews working the region.

A Sprint Nextel spokesman said, "We will put forth an effort second to none in recovering from this devastating storm."

Penske Racing, which fields three race teams, is raising money for a mass donation to the Red Cross next week. The team sent a shipment of Gatorade, a team sponsor, and energy bars to Gulf Coast area last week.

"Our emphasis here is not to gain attention or praise for what we're doing," Penske president Don Miller said. "We, as a team, have decided that it's time to give back some of the support that's been given to us."

Race teams owned by Robby Gordon, Michael Waltrip, Robert Yates, Ed Rensi, Joe Gibbs and their sponsors, plus many, many others are jumping in with cash, goods or fund-raising efforts.

"We all support a lot of things, but to be able to support our own country in a time of need, I think is really important," Johnson said.

The big heart of the stock car industry is beating loud and strong.

The Action Track, is cumming up !!!

It's nice to see the Nascar community stepping up, to help the hurricane raveged areas. I can remember when the trucks hauled hay, to the midwest. but I can't really remember if they used the cab and trailers, or just the cabs, pulling hay haulers. The inside of the car haulers these days, is clean enough to eat off of. Somehow I just can't see them filling the car haulers with hay, or other goods, for a trip south.

I'm heading to Richmond next Friday, for the 2 best race's of the year (imho). Man, I love that track. Any one else making the trip? I'd really like to see Rusty win one more. He can do it at Richmond, if he can do it anywhere!! Not to mention, it'll be the last race before the chase begins. Do ya think there will be any bumping, or paybacks? :)

Lets Rock!

Tonights the night! Will Jeff make the Chase?

Can you imagine what it would be like if the last race before the chase was at Bristol or Darlington? :D

How is CNCG handling the news about Loomis? But knowing him, he probably already knew about it a while ago.

He knew, wasn't really shocked. I guess with it definite that Jeff didn't make the chase, it was coming.
The only good thing for me is now I don't have to put up a Jeff Gordon bulletin board in my room!

Kinda numb to it right now.... Jimmie isn't going to win so this year is one big waste. It's going to be Kurt, Greg, or Tony. whoever has fewer wrecks/blown engines.

As much as I love NASCAR....what I really miss after moving down to the "civilized" part of the state is the IMCA dirt bullrings. 1/3 mile clay ovals where the action is down and dirty. Mud flying at the beginning of the night and dust at the end. LOL!

Built cars, worked the pits, drove a bit and sat more nights than I remember.

My "family" took 1st and 10th at this track this year. WooHoo!!! :nana:
