me and the missus have been discussing having sex in the pool when we go to spain next month, so i just wanted to ask a simple question:

do condoms work in pools?

Never experimented myself, but why do you think they wouldn't work?

They do hold water in if you fill them, that's for sure.

Hehe, I recall filling condoms up with water till they were like baloons, and dropping them off the fifth floor onto the pavement below. Pedestrians sure had fun! :D

Yeah, shut up. We were all 13 once. :p

well, the missus is convinced that because there's chlorine in the pool it wont work

The condom will be fine.

What you really have to worry about is the water washing away her natural lubrication... Could make things very painful for her.

I would reccomend bringing some lube along... Something thick... Like 'Wet'.

endometriosis

The sex lady on the Oxygen network was talking about this recently. She said having intercourse in water is a bad idea because there is some evidence suggesting that this can force water up the woman's vagina and increase the risk of endometriosis.

I'll admit that I don't really know a lot about it ... just repeating what the lady on TV said.

Sex in water can lead to an increase in the chance of infection. No matter how hard you try, a small amount of the water will be forced into the vagina. Chlorinated water from a pool/hottub is chemically treated so while the chance of infection is lower, an adverse reaction to the exposure of sensitive membranes to chlorine cannot be overlooked. Sex in a lake or ocean is far riskier.

The chlorine will not seriously degrade a condom unless you're one of those guys that takes 48-72 hours to orgasm.

If you want to keep it safe, keep it oral and leave the water for PIV sex.

What they're talking about isn't forcing water up the vagina, it's creating enough of a seal to force water up through the cervix, and into the uterus and fallopian tubes. Scarring and infection is a real possibility (even in chlorinated water), which can lead to endometriosis and other problems. Going very slow will help you avoid this, but because of the lube and other issues, it might be best to stick to foreplay in the pool.

Edit: Upon rereading, I don't think we're saying different things, Bob, I just wanted to clarify the anatomy. :)

Its a really romantic and fun idea.

But stopping to get the condom on, trying to get into her, the water IS NOT A LUBE, so it kinda hurts for her unless her fluid is thicker then the one around her... its more hassle then its worth.

Coming from a "been there done that" point of view - have sex in the shower.

I will bow to your greater experience on the matter. After all, I lack the appropriate equipment and merely borrow use of the equipment from alyx. :)
