Why do conservatives seem to be obsessed with preserving "4 years of heritage" so much?? I mean, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on longer than that "country" existed. Their constitution said " No bill of attainder, ex post facto law, or law denying or impairing the right of property in negro slaves shall be passed."
I mean, this is what Robert E Lee had to say about Black People:"The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, socially & physically. The painful discipline they are undergoing, is necessary for their instruction as a race, & I hope will prepare & lead them to better things." Ironically, despite Robert E Lee clearly being a villain, he didn't want statues of himself built after his death. That's the irony, the Neo-Confederates and Klansmen are NOT honoring their "heroes" wishes.
Of course, if you went to Vienna or Salzburg today, and wore a swastika while singing "Horst Wessel" after denying the Holocaust, the Austrians would throw you in prison.

As for your comparison to Austria and Germany, where the state promptly claps a man in the hoosegow for sporting a swastika or singing that Horst Wessel Lied, that is a solution that could only satisfy a European bureaucrat or an American progressive. The European believes that if you make a thought illegal, it ceases to exist. The American rustic, protected by the grand and glorious shield of the First Amendment, is permitted to display his ignorance openly, out in the sunshine. And why shouldn't he? To ban the Confederate flag would be a public disservice. It functions beautifully as a necessary social warning, a brightly colored label on the bottle, alerting the passerby that the contents within are entirely sour, fermented, and unfit for human consumption.

Southern heritage, not conservative heritage.

The USA generally doesn't have much of any heritage. We have scraps.

Some of my ancestors were probably English. I speak English and that's all the heritage I have.
