Corsets and other pretty things.

Okay, I am officially JEALOUS. I wish I could afford a closet full of Amy's work. No, wait. I want half Amy and half Stuart. Yeah. Except I can't fucking tightlace anymore because of my chronic urticaria. *sigh* Had to give it up in 2005 or 2006.

I did buy a corset a couple of weeks ago though. I can fully close a 34" so this one is a 32" - Timeless Trends. What can I say, I'm a poor student! (Which happened after I quit tightlacing...I used to have much nicer stuff.)

Oh, and I want a mirror design by Alexis Black, who is a friend of mine, but I only have one of hers because hey, she can't give them away free. :)

This is not a very erotic response, I am afraid, but I tightlace because my husband wants me tightlaced. I don't have any very strong feelings pro or con corsetting. I don't particularly mind being corsetted but it is not a real turn on for me as it is for some folks. I have been at it so long that I am not conscious of the constriction most of the time. FYI, in my very first corset I laced DOWN to 44".

I would think that most people who tightlace do it for aesthetic reasons, not erotic reasons. It is impractical to be in a state of arousal 23/7, and doing it 23/7 inures you to it anyway, so you're not going to find it erotic long-term. I know I have never felt anything erotic about corseting, it was always purely aesthetic to me.

Timeless Trends corsets start @ $100, which isn't that much more than you paid for the Hot Topic top. I have a TT underbust, and it's not too bad for an inexpensive corset, but they don't fit me well (too short in the busk).

giggles...got it on clearance for $30. but thank you for the link. I'll save it for when i can get one. or -hint hint- get one for Christmas.

Timeless Trends was my recent purchase actually! Did I say that up above? It was a spur of the moment thing, just an off-the-rack corset, but it's always nice to have a new one.

I remember when Timeless Trends first came on the scene, and nobody had any idea how good they were. I didn't want one because I was worried I'd be overpaying for something crappy. But they've stuck around for a few years now and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality when I encountered them at DragonCon, so I got it. Paid WAY too much (reseller's markup) but I'm happy with it.

Must take pictures for you all soon!

Oh CM, did you hear they're working on an overbust style? I am curious.

They've come out with the overbust (I think it's @ $190, so still not too bad of a price point), but their underbusts have too short of a busk for my frame, and their overbust rise is sized by waist inches - so a 24" will have a 13" busk/rise, which is just too freaking short for me (the underbust has like *maybe* a 14" busk/rise, and on a long waisted 5'8" me it's just ridiculous looking). I have to have a 16-18" rise to be comfortable, which means $$$ corsets... and I don't really enjoy tightlacing enough to justify the expense.

*ETA - they are well made, for off the rack, low price point corsets. No modesty panel, but the stitching is solid, etc.

I've never actually bought anything myself, but I see them get a lot of good feedback on various groups on FL.

Alter Ego Erotics

Tis an ebay store, stocking premade, and will also make to spec.

Also, plus sizes.

I have been hearing iffy things about Alter Ego's customer service lately. Their corsets are apparently decent, but they have been unresponsive to customer concerns. I dunno.

I have been looking through the eBay Store and they all seem to be leather. Being in Florida with all the steamy heat I think these would be sticky and stiffling. I love the ones on Timeless Trends and see they have a clearance section. Only $75...I think I can swing this. :D

Yep, Alter Ego only does leather. Go for either Timeless Trends or Meschantes on eBay, $75-100 range.

The last one that I seriously looked at was made from synthetic fiber, sadly. I'd love to find the same exact style in something else, possibly silk, or leather with fabric trimmings. Anyone have any idea how difficult one is to make?

Ouch. Yeah.

:(

I forget people live in nice places. :D

Silks and other fabrics

I got two very nice corsets at Dragon*Con this year. I got a silk underbust at Scarlette's and a a brocade overbust from one of the other vendors ( I'm afraid I don't remember which one except it wasn't Ms. Martha's) I also live in the south, and shudder at the thought of wearing leather even in the air conditioning.:)

Hey, I didn't know you were at DragonCon! I had made a thread about it before I went but nobody said they were going.

Sorry. I remembered last year's thread and call myself looking for one about this year, but didn't find one. Granted, computers are not my best thing ( that's what I have a husband for :D) Unless something drastic happens we are definitely planning to go next year.

And to everyone else: Sorry for the hijack!

I believe that I am kept corsetted as much for the immobilizing effect of the corset as for its aesthetic impact. My husband loves any kind of clothing that has a bondage subtext.
