Oh my favorite.....probably the first one I ever made. Tho that may just be because I can actually fit in it again after 5 years of it hanging in my closet. Afraid the condition of the room detracts a lot from the pic but here it is.
That's my favorite of the ones you've shown, too. :) I really like the soft, off the shoulder look.

awww this is the time of year it sucks to be an aussie .. we don't celebrate it very much at all here.
The best costume parties I've been to have not been in October. Step away from Halloween, and you get more creativity, less clichéd gore, and more enthusiasm (due to the novelty of the event.)

Halloween is starting to be popular here which I don't like at all. We have our own festivities with dressing up and getting sweets, we don't need it.
It's carnival for costumes, and at the parades sweets are thrown. And at St. Martin the children build lanterns (using electric lights) and go from door to door, singing special songs to get sweets.

My image of Germany in October is: all the men sitting around drinking outstanding beer, and all the women walking around looking exactly like the St. Pauli girl.

If this is not actually true, I'll ask you to please keep any corrections to yourself.

*starts screaming*

*screaming still continues*

*bites down any corrections along the lines of "Not all Americans are cowboys, not all Germans are bavarians"*

*screams some more*

*eats chocolate to stop screaming*

*bites down corrections along the lines of "Traditional clothing is NOT costumes, and telling a true Bavarian it is would mean instant death"*

*sobs quietly*

Good god, woman! I'm a sadist, remember? Please consider the effect of what you write on this board.

Of course not. Those of us built well enough to go shirtless are Indians.

The leader of North Korea wears a bouffant hairstyle in order to appear taller than his 5 feet 3 inches. Ha, Ha!!

As long as the women walk around serving beer in those cute little dresses, who really cares what they're called?

At least I was right about the outstanding beer. :p

They do. Or rather the conservative keepers of Bavarianism. I don't get why they are proud of it...

I don't like beer
But if I got you right, I'm only supposed to serve it, not drink it, right? I don't think I have the arm muscle to lift as much as those ladies have to, though... And I don't have the appropriate dress.

I don't think any sadist would like to hear me screaming. It's not pretty, I can tell you. ;)

I do. Language, traditions, dress.... a unique culture is an important part of personal identity for many human beings.

Chris,

I should make clear that I am mocking American commercialism here, not Germans in general or Bavarians in particular. Check out this site to understand the absurdity of the St. Pauli girl concept.

The only unappealing screams are the ones that I don't cause. ;)

You can mock as many Bavarians as you like if I'm concerned.

Let me put it like that: You hit a soft spot. I don't mind Bavarians having their 'unique culture' thing going on, but I would much prefer it to not happen inside of Germany, in the same countrey I'm living in. Going after the prejudice (and I actually know a few Bavarians who are good people and fun to be around) Bavarians are the most similar to Americans Germans get. Again speaking prejudice about America, and I know actually more nice Americans than Bavarians. They are rather radical in their religious beliefs, on the whole WAY more conservative than the rest of Germany.
Anyway, due to a whole lot of stuff happening in German politics, of Bavarians pretending to be better than the rest, probably some historical issues and not sure what, I don't much like Bavarians.

I've seen too often Germany being equalled to Bavaria, especially in the US, where typical Bavarian (food/dress/music) becomes typical German stuff. And I refuse to be thought of as Bavarian.
So that's why I reacted as I did to what I read as you (even in joke) doing exactly this.

As to screaming, I hope you wear ear-plugs, and don't say I didn't warn you, and I don't take any responsibility for any damage, and you can't sue me. ;)

My ancestry might be labeled Bavarian, but I prefer having my last name being known as a Swabian name.

Of course I took a year and a half of German classes... um yeah.

I do ren faires and am exicted about the ones coming up that we're doing.

My mother's going to be making me a cloak, hopefully I'll have it by the end of October faire we do- its bloody freezeing there.

Getting it before Vegas would rock even more- very windy there last year but lots of fun. Other then getting smacked in the face by canvase as it the pavillion lost a grommet to the winds.

Have to work Halloween though *sighs*

I wasn't planning on anything for Halloween, aside from a pervy phone call to a certain friend who's birthday falls on that day. (With her Master's permission, of course!) However, I've been informed that the teachers and staff are encouraged to dress up as well as the kids at my school at the school where I work. sigh So after being given a list of of guidelines a mile and a half long (no masks, no weapons, no messy costumes - which apparently refers to blood and gore dripping-, nothing overtly sexual) I'm debating what I want to do. I was thinking something Hester Prynne-ish, but one of my AP kids suggested Puck from the Dream.

I really liked the firegirl w/dog costume that D and I did last year. I'm not sure if the local kink group is doing a halloween thing. I am going to help with the unit's "Fall Festival" over at the company building and I don't think my boots would be welcome there....though, maybe if I did a pirate thing it could work...but it is supposed to be geared towards the kids so I should probably leave the boots at home :(Maybe a witch would work too but again, the boots are awsome but not everyone appreciates the whole thigh-high-lace-up-the-sides-patent leather thing <shrug>

I loved the pics I saw of those costumes, :)

It's that time of year again, Wench!

Will you be sewing again?

Actually I have been a busy little bee already :)

For sept, I've ebayed 3 bodices, 2 velvet patchwork gypsy skirts and one of my old costumes that's way too big now.

On top of that I have an order for a child's dress gothy witchy kind of thing and a corset.

I've also promised my little sister a new costume for halloween

and I have a couple of bodices and costumes half finished that I'd like to get done in time for the rush here.

not to mention my own wardrob additions. *giggles*

So yes, I'm happily busy at my sewing machine. :cathappy:

Good to hear - and congrats on the ebayed items and other orders. :)

Any Halloween dress-up plans this year? Have you made a new costume for yourself?

I'm considering going out as Indiana Jones for the second year in a row. A repeat seems a bit tacky, or at the very least, dull. But I really do love my whip!

My big girl wants to go as either a pop star or a goth chick. I'm not sure what to get for either outfit. I mean, what does a pop star wear that kids don't normally. I suspect this is a ruse to get me to let her wear a bellybutton shirt and a mini skirt.

I have a couple of things thrown in the pile for me, but no plans as of yet. Hoping to hear of a halloween party some where, but so far no luck. *sigh*

One year at ren faire Ma'am fell in love with the cloaks that one booth was selling for $300-500.

The fabric shop I work at has tons of very very very high quality velvet, and I get it at cost, so I'm going to make her one for her birthday. I've never sewn clothes other than pajamma pants so I'm a bit nervous, but I'm sure it will be ok. The velvet is so damn gorgeous though....a deeeeeep red almost black colour. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

*purr*

cloaks are fairly easy, not a lot of gathers and mostly all streight seems. I'm sure you'll do wonderful and she'll love it. :)

I've always loved costumes and Halloween. I'm too 'mature' for trick-or-treating... but with modeling, I get to wear stuff that is sort of like costumes.

This weekend I was a cowgirl.
Yeeeeeee haaaaa !! Weeeeee !! Giddy yupp!
