Couples Flirting in Forums?

I agree. There was a problem a while back with two posters whose only contributions to the board were flirting with one another - it's awesome that they're in love, but private messages exist for a reason. You can leave one another love notes through there and you're not rubbing it in anyone's faces.

Why is it a problem?

So, let me get this straight:

You complain about others exercising their right to free speech by starting a thread critical of what we post. When others express their criticism of you, you then object to their criticism and wave the First Amendment at them, suggesting that by criticizing your thread, they are somehow infringing your right to free speech.

Do you have a frigging clue how the First Amendment works? Seriously, do you?

Being a Brit a don't have a clue about how the 1st amendment works but I completely agree with you Natty!!

Part one achieved...................

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Part two achieved and now I can happily go and tell

BORGTHEMAGICIAN JUST HOW FUCKING SEXY HE IS AND HOW MUCH I WANT TO FUCK HIM AND HOW I LOVE HIM TO THE MOON AND BACK AND HOW HE MAKES MY HEART SING WITH JOY AND HOW HE MAKES THE EARTH MOVE AND HOW I LOVE HIM AND HOW I WANT HIM AND .................

BORGTHEMAGICIAN JUST HOW FUCKING SEXY HE IS AND HOW MUCH I WANT TO FUCK HIM AND HOW I LOVE HIM ......

I don't think you got the smut ratio right, I think that might be acceptable by Lit laws. Be more loving next time..:D

I think I should contribute my thoughts and feelings on the subject matter. I have been around here for a long long long time. I have seen many changes,
including the day the playground first appeared on the lit boards. I feel that I should thus have some insight into this matter.

What is the personal and playground areas for? According to the owners of the forum,it is stated as the area to Meet other Literotica users for friendship or more! The whole purpose of this forum is to interact with other adults and see what develops from it. The poster here at the playground are doing what the forum is intended for. Some have just ben more successful at the more part of it. These people would have never met if it wasn't for Literotica. I know about this situation. Some of you know my history. I had been transfered to Missouri and knew no one. One day, I was in wally world and came upon their PC area. I decided to enter the computer age. I got online and discovered LIt
because it contained the two best things known to man, being free and having sex.
On the other side of the USA, a beautiful lady had awakened to horrors.
Her whole world was shakened. She was unemployed and living in Manhattan,
being let go from a law firm with offices in the twin towers. She had awakened this day to the horrors of the 9/11 attack on new york. The attack was so close to where she lived. Dust covered fire trucks kept passing by her apt, with military fighter jets fighter planes flying above. Close friends working that day
in the towers were traumitized A friend suggested Lit stories to try to escape
the horrors of her surroundings for a minute or two. After a short time, she discovered chat and the boards.
On the fateful day,all alone in his home, far away from any friends or family,
I decided to sign on to Lit chat. I had made some friends online and decided to see who was around. I saw a friend's name and ventured in to the room.
Inside the room with my friend, there was someone I hadn't ever met.
We started flirting(sorry) and became good friends. She had PC problens weeks later and disappeared from Lit without us even knowing each other's names. This experience made us realize our feelings had grown deeper, deeper than we had realized. We started flirting heavily there and on the boards. We decided we had to meet,to see if what we felt online was real.
We went into it,kowing whatever happened,we would always be good friends.
The big movie at that time was sleeples in seattle. She was living in NYC and I am a little bit romantic,so I flew in during Valentine week, ready to be the sequel to the movie. When we met,it was like seven months of foreplay:eek:
As they say,the rest is history. We didn't want to be apart. We picked a city to live in and became room mates:D. The second new years eve here,I asked her to marry me. She answered my question with an affirmative reply:nana: We are now in the middle of a long engagement.. Our flirting on the boards led us to be an engaged couple. Others are looking for this happiness
So,I have done flirting on the boards and know what it leads to. So,I have to ask a few questions.
Have you not read what this forum is for before you entered it?
Shouldn't posters on this board, follow what this board is for?
Who determines how much is too much?
Aren't these boards here for everyone to have fun?
What do you see wrong with people being happy?
Are you wanting to take away from people, the chance for the type of happiness I found here on LIT?

The next time you enter this area of the board, read the reason for its existence
Meet other Literotica users for friendship or more!
It doesn't say, once you find the more, stop posting the way you have been posting. I think the way the posters who have found more, have been successful at their posting, don't you? Why change?

omahaman2.

Thank you for offering your opinion. I asked why people do this, and you give me something to think about.

Being a Brit a don't have a clue about how the 1st amendment works but I completely agree with you Natty!!

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution reads:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It is generally regarded as the right to free speech. There are many different applications of the First Amendment, but the one that is relevant herein is that of simply expressing one's opinion.

What the OP mistakenly complains about is that by exercising his right to free speech, he should somehow be insulated from criticism. First of all, it is generally understood that only the government -- Congress -- shall not infringe on free speech -- shall make no law -- and that private organizations, generally, are free to do so as caselaw interpreting the First Amendment allows. As I and Bisolom have both pointed out, as much as the OP complains about his rights of free speech being criticized -- infringed? -- he is hypocritically complaining because his original post is nothing more than that: A complaint about our free speech. So you have free speech being criticized by free speech that is in turn being criticized by free speech -- all of which is permissible under the First Amendment.

There are time, place and manner restrictions, of course. Justice Holmes famously gave the example that one may not yell Fire! in a crowded theater just for the fun of it because of the potential harm to innocent bystanders. Libel, slander, defamation, child pornography, secrets vital to national security -- caselaw has addressed these concerns as well, none of which is applicable here.

Generally, what is at play here is nothing more than cowardly whining trying to hide behind the First Amendment.

stop flirting with me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do couples, who say they are committed to each other, have a need to flirt with each other in these forums? Why not keep it private? I mean the flirting, not the nature of the relationship. When committed with someone I see no reason to flirt with her in various public threads.

Please don't take this the wrong way. It is just that I do not understand it.
Is is to show off? To say, "Look everyone, I have a b/g friend?"

Or, is this simply one of those things that goes past me?

I'm just adding my tuppence ha'penny for what it's worth

I like it-it makes me smile-it's hopeful and goddess knows I need something to smile about right now

I thought i'd find it difficult to see it these last 2 weeks but it warms my heart to see people I consider friends and those i don't know also being happy, contented and in love:rose:

What Janey said :rose:

And why not flirt? I enjoy flirting and I know many people do, whether it is with their SO, a friend or a stranger. Why do people flirt? Because it's fun, it's a way of getting to know someone in a harmless, thrilling fashion.

I like seeing committed couples, on-line or off, flirt and such (I'm not a fan of overt PDAs, though). It shows that their affection is alive, that just because they are a couple the 'spark' is not dead, that they don't take each other for granted. That they still put the effort to keep the relationship fun and interesting.

Just my Canuck .02

isn't the key to flirting......keeping it light, fun and knowing when to not take it all serious?

Wow. This brought tears to my eyes. Not sure if it's because it's really touching or because I cry at everything. In either event, it's beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I've enjoyed most of this thread, except a few posts that seemed to get a little heated and denigrating. I didn't see anything wrong with the OP's original post -- it's fair to ask a question as long as you're open to a wide variety of responses.

And I loved omahaman's story of true romance found on the Lit boards

So I'm very grateful that you started this thread mrno.

Omaha, I applaud you. I have also found that flirting on the threads and crossing threads can be a life changing experience. Friends here are like no others, some are just really good friends that you can flirt with and we know nothing will ever become of it. YET, there is always the possibility that the "more" will happen, feelings come out and sharing it with everyone is something that just has to happen. I happen to love watching the Lit mating season as it opens and couples are created. I wish all those happy couples well and encourage them to share their love with us. I have no option but to do the same with my love when we have time to post and not spend all of our spare minutes taking with each other.

i would offer a word of advice. flirting on the threads is a life changing experience, not always for the better. i wish all of you in these relationships the best. it does my heart good to see love flying around. for me, it did my heart good to see the love that came to me after i was taken for the ride of my life.
