COVID impacts

One of the local signwriters has got a bit creative. He's printing large bright green stickers for local businesses to put on their windows that says "YES! WE ARE OPEN!" and another smaller sticker with the details - hours open, pick up only, number of people allowed inside - that sort of thing.

It's helping.

So, looping back to the original premise of the thread for a hot second.
I can't vouch for lots of new submissions, but I will say that I've noticed an upswing in views and favoriting. I also gained eight followers in the last two weeks, whereas previously I was getting about two followers a month.

I keep meaning to swing around to the story side and check the category hubs, but I've been mugged by too many plot bunnies that are very demanding.

They hold you down and wiggle their cute pink noses. What are you gonna do?

And I'm just trying to get my story finished before the pandemic ends — I want to do my part in easing the shut-in blues too :)

I think you'll have quite a bit of time to finish, then. This thing has many months to run. You can get something finished by Christmas, surely?

They do! and then, if they think you're ignoring them, they bite you and call in their friends.

At the rate I'm going I'll have four or five more started, and none finished.

The one's I hate lead you down what looks like a perfectly nice path, then abandons you in a festering swamp with no way out.

Meanwhile, they're over there on solid ground thinking up another sneaky way to distract you from finishing.

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a few more favorites and comments on some of my older stories. Normally that only happens in the few days after a new story but it has been constant.

You are probably just settling down into regular processing. Two days is standard for those regularly submitting.

Oh right, I didn’t realise regular contributors got processed faster. I just assumed everyone got the same treatment. I suppose it makes sense, thinking about it. It's quite nice, being thought of as a 'regular'.

We have only one reader in the submission que. If she knows and trusts the author she reads it quicker. If she doesn't know the author she detail reads it which takes longer. Or at least I've been told.
Happy writing!

That may be what happened, but Laurel is processing a lot of stories per day. There are 950 stories on the "New" list right now, an average of almost 136/day over the last week. I monitored the number of new stories posted to the site daily for six months in 2017, and over that time period the highest 1-day total was 134 new posts in a day -- and that was extraordinary.

If your story doesn't get as many views as you expected, then maybe you can blame that on the number of stories.

What I'm seeing ( here and elsewhere ) is newly minted members listing large numbers of stories as favorites. Usually, 2-4 at a time, over the course of 3-4 days. Most end up adding me as an author favorite after the second round or so.

May be that free premium and too much time on their hands has caused some folks to burn through any of the video porn that interests them, and they're having to seek wank material in text form.

I've seen something like that, but I don't think the members were newly-minted. Yesterday, someone favorited me then favorited almost my entire catalogue one story at a time. That member might have had the longest list of favorite stories I've seen. Today, someone favorited me and all of my EC stories from the last three years.

Enough of this talk about writing and posting and favouriting, what I want to know is: when can I get a haircut? I'm disappearing under this silver thatch.

I'm looking forward to a Mani Pedi as soon as this works out...

I needed a hair cut before they shut down the barber shops, and now it's getting annoying. I could have a pony tail by the time they open the shops again.

My daughter's and my wife's mani and pedi are just going to grow out. They both bought some product that's supposed to help that process. A lot of dye jobs are going to grow out too, before they can be redone professionally.

And thus, great truths will be revealed :).

Find a long grey cloak, Sam, and grow a beard. Become a suburban wise man, or find a forest and eat berries. You're going into Spring, so becoming a hermit might be an option :).

:) I already have beard, EB. But maybe I need to stop clipping it. And I'll keep an eye out for a grey cloak. I assume you mean something that would not be out of place in a tale by Tolkien. :)

Correct. Beware the Balrog, though, worse than a Jabberwock or a Bandersnatch. Stay away from high stone bridges, is my advice :).

One of the advantages? of having had chemotherapy is that my hair will take a couple of months of growing before I need a haircut. Even my beard thinned out but I will need my beard trimmer in a week.

But - my toenails will need cutting and I can't reach them. The foot clinic has sent a three-sheet email of advice, suggesting filing not cutting.

When they are back in action they will need an angle grinder.
