COVID impacts

Really? I always thought that couples were in it together. If my wife has it, I have it, and so on. You can't cause anything but unnecessary friction if you try to do it some other way.

Yeah well, I married a hot young chick. She's probably trying to get rid of the old goat...I have my suspicions  Just drink the Cool Aid...err...milkshake dear.

These are pretty tense times. Most of what my wife has said to me today has been an invitation for an argument. Maybe her favorite left-wing podcasts have shut down, I don't know. I do know that my role isn't and never will be to substitute for the entire political right--or for those not too far left to suit her.

If she wants to argue then she can find someone else.

Okay now I’m laughing. My husband is working from home and he’s “whatever.” We have two of my co workers with kids staying with us, so doing the necessary but we don’t worry about trying to isolate or not share stuff or anything like that. He figures we're i this together. Besides, we’re taking our vitamin c. Lol. And he cooked steak tonite. Yum! So after a couple of glasses of wine and some decent coffee, I’m back to writing secretively, so as not to shock our two house guests who are both a little on the conservative side.

No joking. Got off my shift and even though it’s not that busy here, I just can’t focus. Maybe tomorrow. I have a couple of days off.

I've been thinking about you a lot lately, hoping you have all the equipment you need and all the supplies when/if the virus comes knocking. I'm glad to hear you're ok.

Yes, double that thought. People like Chloe are the backbone of humanity. Impossible working conditions with this disease and yet they struggle through. Even when they face their own mortality. I can't even imagine what your days are like.

There's an old Western saying: You're aces high Chloe! :rose:

There are plenty of online arguments she can get into!
I even know some places...

So, she's not going to work anymore?

Starting Monday at my place, they're taking all our temps when we walk in and asking the screening questions. They marked off the hallway in 6 foot spaces with novelty duct tape. They've asked the staff to sign up for 4 hour shifts to be the screeners, because they don't have enough nursing to run thus 24/7. Which is true, and fine, and I don't mind helping. but as of the time I left on Friday hadn't sent out any instructions. Also, the schedule they made up in in 3 hour blocks. I picked a shift the week of the 13th, to give them some time to sort it out.

They like to talk about shit forever, at my joint, and then implement things at the last minute.

We’re small, but we have all the equipment we need. No shortage of that, but it’s a small ICU but so far so good. It’s actually really quiet - people aren’t coming in for all the normal stuff unless they really need to. Doing more tests but not many cases. I figure the calm before the storm but you just focus on what you have to do. Ebola was actually scarier - that was when I first started working. This isn’t do bad and we’ve had a lot more lead time than NYC or Seattle. And some idea what to do now as well. Fingers crossed. And if all else fails we have two cases of medicinal Jack Daniels. Lol. Tell you what tho, it’s worse than I thought it would be.

On the other hand, it’s good having a couple of co workers staying - we can tell awful jokes to each other without worrying about innocent bystanders. My husband’s immune - marine humor is worse. Or better. Anyhow I’m still trying to write my story. Bad jokes about corona beer and going viral.....

And I started on my geek day horror story. Last Train from Wuhan. It was those Chinese demons you know. They took over the bio lab and when we went hunting they were too powerful. Took the last train out and they followed..... I haven’t quite figured out the end except that it ends with a sneeze..... and you know the rest!!!

Xoxo 😘 it’s like the old eagles song or something like this. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. I’d rather be doing something than sitting around waiting. And you know you’re helping people who need it - esp by the time they get to hospital. But like I said, quiet here. Most of the local cases are at home. And they seem to be finding more things that help. Anyhow you guys look after yourselves 🤗

Sorry to hear this. My wife and I are always close, but now I think we're both worrying about the other more than ourselves. The only argument is who is going to take the bigger risks — so far I've won those. But really I don't think either of us has any desire to go forward alone. So far we haven't had to venture out much at all.

I feel for you, politics at this time is like booze at a sporting event or pouring gasoline on a campfire while the kids are roasting marshmallows

On a more positive and helpful note; Have you two ever considered a little BDSM ? They say it releases stress and draws people closer together … but then again, times are more tense right now so maybe not

I'm finding that having 80 feet between her favorite room and my study works pretty well. It certainly was working well before this lockdown thing.

It was just a mood, and it passed after a few hours.

That's good to hear. We both have our space, so we aren't right on top of each other all day. And our views on politics and religion are compatible. Our biggest downside is the weather has been pretty 'sucky' for quite awhile which adds to the overall gloom

Today I received my second 'extremely vulnerable' letter asking me to register online.

I have and said:

No, I don't need help with shopping.

No, I don't need help getting up or getting dressed.

No, I don't need food parcels.

No, I do not need a care worker...

Etc.

BUT - I had a credit card bill for £2.00. I use that card for automatic car parking charges. For some reason the local council will only accept credit cards, NOT debit cards.

I can't go to my bank as I usually would. I'm supposed to stay at home for 12 weeks and the bank has reduced their opening hours considerably. If I don't pay by the due date I am charged £25!

I tried to pay by their automated online system but it wouldn't accept me because I took too long to input the 16 number card number. I had to wait for a quarter of an hour of appalling tinny music to speak to a human. Even so It took another ten minutes to pay by debit card and she gave me a 16 digit authorisation number and why don't I pay by mobile?

Because I don't have a mobile and even if I had I couldn't see it - which is why I am speaking to you!

Many of the stores around here are insisting on credit or debit cards - no cash. I understand the logic, yet I cannot help but reflect on the additional problems this must be causing for those on the very bottom rungs of society’s ladder, the ones with no cards or bank account or even phone. Indeed, without a home address, the homeless are entirely barred from even applying for such.

Our local stores are indicating that they prefer payment by card but are not banning cash - yet. They have too many elderly customers who do not have any card at all.

My wife has debit cards but no credit card. I pay for all the automated car parking charges (and the Dartford Crossing) for me, her, my eldest daughter and my son-in-law on my secondary (high interest) credit card. The sums are usually low, typically less than £10 a month and I pay in full so the high interest is of no concern.

My other credit card (Platinum) has a much lower interest rate but I usually clear all balances each month. If I don't the interest is not a worry.

But some of our friends daren't use a credit card because their income is low and they live month by month. A credit card would be too tempting for them.

Parking - interesting. My city has essentially made parking free due to concerns about people having to push buttons and touch screens. 'Tis an ill wind...

My city's car parks are nearly empty but most are automated except for visitors who aren't coming.
