Creative Side Projects

My favorite side project when writing a story is developing the marketing material for it.

The blurb, synopsis, launch material (if applicable), and cover are all distractions from writing, yet still focused on the work as a whole.

I wrote a song that the FMC performs in one of my stories. Published it on Spotify under the character's name and put it in the story playlist.
I also wrote a song! Actually working on another that's come up a few times, but it's 12 minutes of solar flare as metaphor for technological overreach and civilizational downfall, female-fronted symphonic metal. So, very slow going.

Thoughtful, philosophical metal is hard. Go figure.

AI can't remotely do it justice, even if it didn't already suck at female metal vocals, but one day I might actually publish the lyrics. I published the other one to a resounding 68 views! And 8 votes! 😁

That sounds all kinds of amazing
I have incredibly rough drafts, but it's fucking hard šŸ˜†

I'm bad at poetry; my brain just really struggles with it, so trying to write in poetic style is difficult already, on top of the double/triple layers of meaning required for what I'm aiming for. Although, the rhythmic elements and line length for impact purposes, it's all very structural in a way I'm enjoying a lot. I do this level of thinking about implicit structural elements in my writing, and it's been a useful tool for song lyrics as well.
