Great outfit, let's play pirates of the Caribbean.Ok...I'll put in some effort
I got this at a close out sale. Labelled as vintage/ steel boned.
When I got it home it was made in China and 80 percent polyester...hardly vintage...but I still paid 10 times less than market value so joke's on them. If I was commissioned to make this I'd charge over 400 buckeroos.

It looks good. The front fastenings give it away as a newly designed garment. Vintage were tiny hook and eyes or fully laced.
Is it the same user name on the other site. I might pop over and have a look

Sorry todger....you do not pass go, you do not win the money, you do not get an A.
That's a split busk closure... invented mid 1800's. Previously they were wooden one pieces that slid down the front . (Interestingly enough the term straight laced came from this invention.)
Women who worse corsets laced in the back with no split busk were considered chaste and 'straight laced', while women who had laces in the back (as they mostly always were) and a split busk were considered loose ...when really it was to facilitate getting dressed without help.
Annnnnnd hook and eyes were patented in the early 1900's.
Did I mention I'm a trained historical seamstress/tailor with a background in history (focus on fashion through the ages ?
And a corset enthusiast, maker and wearer
And yes...same name

You want to board my ship, plunder my treasure, steal my booty, shiver me timbers?
Ok, I'm done.
Oh...and I WILL make you wear the full garb. I have frock coats at my disposal....plus those tiny tight breeches

Aww...too sweetHmmm more accessible ruby... still sounds really good to me
Looks very nice, but I am not sure I can say there is much that doesn't look good when you are dressed in it. And the cost is nice as well.
I wish I had an aunt who made undergarments. I'm fascinated by them!!! And yup...that's my gig. Not my 9-5 but hopefully someday. Now I do it volunteer for the theatre.Shows how little I know. Should know more as I had an aunt who was a professional corset, bra maker. All kinds of reinforced undergarments. Everything made to measure, but of course they were modern (1950/60’s) not vintage.
It was the look of the front fastenings that appeared to me modern design that threw me. Mind you I can’t remember the last time I got my hands on a corset wearing girl/woman.
I knew you had something to do with theatre but not a costume designer/maker. I just read about that on the other site as comments with some pics.
Thank you. You're beautiful in your new corset, a great vintage look.
Hooks can be funJust don't give me a hook for a hand.
Well undone!
Because I'm missing theatre and old bits and bobs of costumes are around my house tempting me like a wheel of brie.

Catch anything?Tom cat peeking round the door, stalking, ready to pounce.

Though I might have to try and figure out a mouse trap... perhaps I could entice you with some cheese... Oh, and maybe instead of a mouse trap, I'll employ a mouth trap
