Curse of Strahd dnd campaign

Quinn nods "maybe i should save my spells for counters" she stretches out a bit, clearly taking the middle. she lays back "its a shame we wont have a day to ourselves after teh fane. somewhere we could have a hot bath and a really good meal someone else cooks" she laughs and twists a little, looking over at lucan and then at ireena "something we could use to just forget for a moment" she runs her fingers along lucan's chest, then opens her arm for Ireena to snuggle in against her.

Ireena turns on her side and snuggles in against Quinn, running her fingers lightly over her stomach. "I wish we could.. One last day of relaxing before facing Strahd. Itd be nice." She keeps her fingers moving along Quinn's body, just trying to feel her skin. Lucan lays back next to Quinn and looks up at the tent. "Countering his spells will be helpful, but we need to do as much damage as we can as quickly as we can. Hourly between the sword and holy symbol we can get off to a good start." Lucan looks over at Quinn, "Did you start sitting up so I'd move and you could take the middle tonight? Brat." He closes his eyes and smiles for a moment. The smile fades as a worried look crosses his face. "One more game before Strahd, if it's another fight we aren't going to be looking too good before facing him.."

QUinn laughs "the mighty quinn sleeps where she wants" she sticks out her tongue at Lucan, then nestles in and gets comfortable between them. "look once we beat the last fane, unless he comes directly to us... we can take a day and recover some." she runs her hand over Ireena's "we are gonna be travelling a bit but we fortunately arent marching or even riding. its not bed rest but its close enough. Honestly, if he does come at us on the road it might be better not worse. we won't be fighting him in his home."

Ireena nods and smiles feeling Quinn's hand on hers. "Hes smart, if he hasn't come for us yet I don't think he will. We might have to go to his damn castle. Which isn't ideal, but at least we can loot it after we kill him." Lucan turns toward Quinn and runs his hand over her arm. "Uh huh.. Of course she does. As long as we are careful about where we are for this day off, that seems fine. If he hasn't come for us now he probably won't at all. I figured he would after we took down the first fane."

Quinn nods "the fact that he hasn't means he fears us. He may not on an individual level be that much more powerful than teh guardians of the fanes, once stripped of their power. I'm guessing a lot of his bullshit comes from his connection to the land. he probably also fears coming out, us nearly beating him then some other dark power usurping his position while he's weakened, but still.... i think on the whole it bodes well for our chances. Not saying it's a done deal but he clearly respects our abilities enough not to push it." she squeezes Ireena's hand and turns her head to rest it against Lucan's shoulder "i think we should take heart in that, and give ourselves a day to rest, or two, after the mountain"

Lucan nods and kisses the top of Quinn's head. "We will see what happens, as nice as two days sound I feel like that's pushing it. And who knows what we are going to find at the mountain fane. He might get a lot of power from the land, but we still have to expect him to be quite powerful. Though I'm very glad we are breaking these connections. Id hate to fight him and see what these fanes do for him." Ireena circles in closer to Quinn. "Time to rest sounds nice, but if we can't we will all be alright. We will be able to rest after we beat Strahd, as long as we want wherever we want."

Quinn nods "its a delicate balance. hitting him fast enough so he can't recover, but slow enough that we might be able to. its hard to know the best way" she keeps her hands on her two lovers, just lightly touching them and feeling reassured by their dual presence. she nestles in between them, burrowed under soft blankets and soft skin. closing her eyes, she lets out a long breath "at least you got to see the sun again"

Ireena smiles and nods, "True, I wish it had been for a few more moments though. I know soon enough it'll be back here but it was nice to see again." She kisses Quinn's holder and closes her eyes. "Soon enough I'll see it again, and it won't go away for so long." Lucan closes his eyes, "Well first I'll use the holy symbol, that might slow him down a bit. I can summon an angel and heal anyone that needs it. But we will figure it out as we go. I feel like even if we make a plan something is going to happen and screw it up. I dont want to wing it but I also don't want to go in with some crazy elaborate plan that gets thrown out the window seconds into the fight."

Quinn kisses Ireena and threads her fingers through her hair "youll see it all day soon enough" she turns to Lucan "yeah well. i mean, i think all we can do since we dont know the terrain is... i try to hold him you bring up the daylight spell Ireena hits him with the sun sword.... if that doesnt work go from there."

"Soon isn't quick enough, you know I'm impatient." Ireena smiles and rubs her head lightly against Quinn's hand. Lucan opens his eyes feeling Quinn move and turns toward her. "Yeah thats pretty much the plan as long as he doesn't do something to ruin it. If we fight in his castle.. Thats a disadvantage, he can just run into another room to get out of the sunlight. But I have a feeling thats how its going to go unfortunately. Hopefully I'm wrong, but we should prepare for that too." He runs his fingertips over Quinn's cheek.

Quinn kisses Lucan's hand "thus the hold i guess. Also there might be somewhere he has to rest. we might be able to corner hin there. I don't know. i confess to knowing nothing about them" she sighs, then closes her eyes "lets get some rest and hit the road" she smiles "iim glad we're all together"

Lucan smiles and closes his eyes. "Sounds like a plan to me, im glad we are all here together too." Ireena leans over to kiss Quinn's cheek before laying her head on Quinn's shoulder. "Im grateful you all came here.. Whether or not we get to end this soon, things have been so much better since you've been here. It means more to me than either of you know." She closes her eyes and falls asleep within a minute of speaking. The three of you sleep soundly through the night. In the morning you wake to cloudy sky's but thankfully no rain today. The air feels colder than it did last night. You all eat a quick breakfast before packing up and heading out.

You all travel south along a mountain pass, the air getting colder and colder the further you ascend. As the road flattens out its freezing outside of the carriage and wagon. It starts snowing part way through your journey and as you reach the pass theres about a foot of snow on the ground. You keep traveling for a couple hours along the mountain road.

The shelf of rock on which the mountain road clings
grows narrow. To your left, the icy cliffs rise sharply
toward dark, rolling clouds. To your right, the ground
falls away into a sea of fog. Ahead, through the wind and
snow, you see a high wall of black stone lined with spikes
and topped by statues of demonic vultures with horned
heads. Set in the center of the wall is a closed iron port-
cullis, behind which burns a curtain of green flame.
On the other side of the dark wall, gripping the moun-
tain's edge, is a guard tower of white stone topped by
golden statues of mighty warriors.

Quinn shivers as se steps out of the carriage, the shiver becomes a shudder. she wraps her coat around herself and blows on her hands to warm them, then shoves them under her coat. she feels her teeth chatter as she experiences the bracing wind. she tries to get ahold of herself, eyes narrowing to help with the glare on the snow. She looks over the awful gargoyles and then over at the gate. she looks to lucan and erlan, her breath instantly frosting in the arctic air. "we should check thegate for traps and also see if there's a mechanism for opening it on this side. if not i can teleport through maybe and see about what's on the other" she stamps her feet bit and looks through to the tower "i wonder if that was built by the dragon and his men? it seems less sinister than anything else we've seen in this country. "

Ireena steps down from the carriage and moves closer to Quinn seeing she's cold. Her warmth does help some but Quinn can still feel the freezing cold weather. Lucan and Erlen head toward the gate, as they get close the gate opens by itself. The gate shrieks from the sound of metal on metal as it raises until it is fully opened. Lucan and Erlen look at eachother before looking at the others. Lucan looks at Quinn, "Well.. That helps at least but that also raises some red flags." A minute after the gate opens it starts closing on its own.

Quinn nods "im not really keen on running through a curtain of green flame." she hmmms a second "let me send asshat over the wall to see if there's anything on the other side that might shutt off thedefenses" she pauses a moment, then extends her consciousnes sinto Asshat and sends him over the wall, looking through his eyes and seeing what he can see.

Asshat flies up in the air, looking down at the tower he gets a better visual of the top.
Ten-foot-tall, gold-plated statues stand atop the battle-
ments, facing outward. Each one depicts a female hu-
man knight holding a lance. The cold wind stirs the snow,
under which you see human skeletons clad in rusty mail.

Asshat looks a little further and sees a stone bridge.
The snowy pass comes to a gorge spanned by a stone
bridge. At each end of the bridge is a thirty-foot-tall, thir-
ty-foot-wide stone arch. Atop each one are two statues
of armored knights on horseback with lances, charging
toward one another. The wind bites and howls like wolves
as it passes through the gorge.

Quinn's consciousness returns to her body ands he turns to the others "well we can run for it through the flame or we can climb over the walls, but there doesnt seem to be any mechanims for getting through or shutting anything off. erlan do you think you can scale teh wall and lower a rope for us to get up? or lucan can you dispell the flames?"

Lucan walks forward again, the gate starts to rise and he casts dispel magic. The flames vanish, Lucan and erlen head through the gate and to the other side. Ireena looks over at Quinn, "Come on, lets go." She heads through to the other side before Ezmerelda and Marius join her. As you all head through you can all see what asshat already saw. After a few moments the green flames reappear behind you. Lucan looks over at Quinn, "Should we continue on then?"

Quinn looks around "this place feels like there was once glory here." she sighs and presses into the warmth of Ireena, badly needing it in the freezing temperatures. she can feel her ears and face are as red as her hair in the whipping wind, which seems to leech the energy out of her from the chill of it. she swallows and looks around, then starts across the bridge. "time's a wasting i guess" she shakes her head and stalks across the bridge, holding her winter gear close around herself to help with the cutting wind. her hair whips out behind her and she brings up an arm to ward off the worst of it from her face as she moves across the cold stone.

You all move across the bridge before heading off further along the mountain. The road fades away under a covering of snow, but it takes you far enough to see the facade of some kind of
temple carved into the sheer mountainside ahead. The
front of the structure is fifty feet high and has six alcoves
containing twenty-foot-tall statues. Each statue is carved
from a single block of amber and depicts a faceless,
hooded figure, its hands pressed together in a gesture of
prayer. Between the two innermost statues is a twenty-
foot-tall archway with a staircase leading down. Quinn looks around and sees a small fissure to the west that is four feet wide and ten feet tall. She can see a light coming from inside and she can hear voices coming from it.

QUinn brings a finger to her lips, indicating the others should be quiet. she creeps over to the fissure, and leans down. she keeps herself out of the light, not wanting to be seen by whoever or whatever is in there. she leans as close as she can however, without being seen and makes an attempt to listen to the voices.

Quinn can hear an animal sleeping about fifteen feet inside, something large. Perhaps a dire wolf? It's hard for her to tell from her. But she hears the sharpening of weapons and a female voice. "What a lousy hunt, no one around for miles. Maybe we will get lucky with some stragglers stumbling upon the temple though." She can hear a make voice respond, "We haven't gotten any good loot in days, no good fights either, we need a fun fight soon. I'm getting bored." She can also hear at least three more voices agreeing with him.

Quinn mentally relays the information to the group, then asks if they think if she should drop a spell on the group inside the fissure. she could use arms of hadar and depending they might not be able to find the exit. *what's the consensus here*

You can hear everyone agree with that before hearing Lucan's voice. *Get back though, if they do get out you don't need to be in harms way. So cast it and get away, I'll get close and try to keep them inside.* Lucan steps forward and waits for Quinn to cast her spell before getting close to the fissure and wait for anyone to come out. Erlen pulls out his bow and gets ready for anyone to come out.

Quinn slips back, then drops the spell, centering it so that the edge of it will be at the edge of the fissure, that way she and her allies can keep the bandits or whatever they are trapped inside the cave for now. A blob of darkness would descend for everyone else, and an unearthly cold would fill it. also tentacles and the horrible sounds of sucking would be heard by anyone standing by the edge
