Note: this is not a daddy-daughter incest thread. At all.

Tommy O'Neill was a twenty-one year old guy, but he wasn't like all the other guys walking around the University campus that Saturday afternoon. He wasn't even a student; he was a hard-working single dad of a beautiful little four year old girl, Bridget. He was lucky, really. After his daughter was born, his dad got him a job with the union, welding, and he'd had steady work ever since. He'd just gotten out of his apprenticeship, and was making good money, working plenty of overtime.

Which would be fine, if his daughter's mother was around. She'd disappeared years ago, leaving him alone with Bridget. He hadn't heard from the bitch at all.

He had just gotten word that he would be working seven days a week for the next month or so. He desperately needed a babysitter for the weekends, when Bridget's daycare wasn't open, which was what brought him to posting fliers around campus. He was reluctant to trust some flighty college girl, but he didn't have any better ideas. Hopefully he'd get a few decent potential babysitters to call. If not he'd be begging his parents to watch Bridget, which he didn't want to do any more than he had to.

Chelsea was walking through campus towards the coffee shop she frequented, Elsie's. There were Starbucks and other chain places on campus, but she preferred the quaint little shop with little booths and window seats and a great atmosphere for studying. UC Berkley was not a school for the lazy. Well, mostly not. Some of the rich kids got by on their daddy's money. But not Chelsea. She had worked her ass off to get in and she still worked.

When she wasn't in class or studying, she was picking up jobs here and there and babysitting as much as possible. Although freshman were supposed to stay on campus and not work, to focus on their first year, she needed the money, so she worked anyway. She was 18, so it was a bit difficult to get work, but she knew her looks didn't hurt in that department. Not that she flaunted them. Much.

As she set her things down in her favorite corner seat, she glanced up at the bulletin board, which she checked daily. A new flier! She grabbed it quickly, reading over it. This was a guy looking for someone to watch his four year olds. Perfect. She could get some studying done if she watched a little girl that age. They usually weren't too much trouble.

Chelsea picked up her phone as she booted up her laptop, calling the number on the flier right away.

Tommy didn't have high hopes for finding a babysitter. The first two girls who called were a complete waste of space. One was a complete ditz; her admittedly attractive body definitely wasn't enough to get her the job. Tommy knew he couldn't trust her alone in the house.

The other one was nice enough, although she was clearly a pot-head. Her abundant tattos and piercings were more than likely to scare Bridget as well, so she was a no-go. He got another call later that afternoon, just when he was getting frustrated with the whole process.

"Hello, this is Tommy."

"Hi, this is Chelsea," she answered, a little surprised to hear a young voice on the other side of the line. She had expected someone more adult-like, but this guy sounded like he was her age. "Have you filled the babys
itting position yet?"

"Not yet," he breathed heavily and she could hear the stress in his voice.

"I'm interested. I'm a college student, but I promise I'm reliable and not a weirdo."

She waited and didn't know if he was still there till he cleared his throat, "Yea, haven't lad much luck with that. What year are you in?"

"I'm a freshman in the English department. Actually, do you live near campus? I'm at Elsie's if you want to meet."

"I'll be there in fifteen minutes," Tommy replied. He hung up his cell phone. "Bridget!" he called out. The little girl came running through the small apartment. "Wanna go for a ride?" he asked her, and rhe little blonde girl smiled wide and nodded enthusiastically. Tommy grabbed her bicycle helmet and held her hand as they left the apartment. He unchained his bike and loaded the little girl into the rear kid-seat, and then got on the bike himself and they headed off.

It was less than a mile to the coffee shop, and he got off, helped his daughter out of her seat, and they went inside. He looked around, trying to spot this Chelsea girl as they waited in line. He saw a young woman in a corner window seat, but wasn't sure if it was her. Then, he was at the front of the line. He ordered a regular cup of coffee for himself, and a vanilla steamer for Bridget.

Chelsea continued typing away on her laptop after she hung up with Tommy, after deciding they'd meet right where she sat, at the cafe. She glanced over to the door every few minutes, and just about fifteen minutes later, a stream of people entered. Chelsea's eyebrows raised as she saw a little girl enter with a guy who looked a few years older than her.

From the side, she couldn't see much, but he had a nice profile. He was tall and slim, but not scrawny. The little one was adorable and quite small. She grinned as she shut her laptop, but didn't bother carrying it with her. She walked right up to the guy and smiled

"Hi, I'm Chelsea." She knew she didn't look entirely like a typical female freshman at UC B, what with her dress that actually covered most of her breasts as well as her thighs and butt. Her hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail, bangs falling across the left side of her face. He turned around to look at her.

He was goddamn gorgeous. Holy. Shit.

Chelsea was glad she had introduced herself before seeing him, because she was at a loss for words.

Tommy turned to look at the girl as she introduced herself. She was really pretty, he had to admit. "Hi Chelsea, thanks for meeting me. Uhh, this is Bridget," he said, looking down for his daughter, who was hiding behind his legs, looking up at Chelsea with a curious look in her eye. "Bridget, say hi to Miss Chelsea," he said, stepping to the side.

Bridget looked up at Chelsea, and appeared deep in thought. Shyly, the little girl said "Hi Miss Chelsea" in a small voice, and then hid behind her daddy's legs again.

Tommy smiled and mussed Bridget's hair. "Don't be shy," he said to her, smiling. The little girl took a drink of her warm vanilla-flavored steamed milk, and smiled up at him. Tommy looked at Chelsea. "Can we sit down?"

"It's good to meet you," she stammered to Tommy, before getting somewhat of a grip on herself. She bent down slightly to meet Bridget's height, "Hi sweetie!" She said, without taking on the patronizing baby-voice so many people seemed to speak to kids with. "You're adorable!" she was happy to see Bridget smile back, and stood up slowly.

"Sure, I'm sitting over here." She gestured several yards over where her laptop and books lay on the table. "Let me just put these away," she blushed slightly. She was currently studying for a Romantic Language Literature class. Not exactly Harvard status.

"I bet you received many calls today, what with everyone on campus being desperate to work?"

Tommy smiled as he saw the title on Chelsea's schoolbook. Long ago, before Bridget came along, he'd been quite the bookworm. These days, though, he barely had the time. There was really only one book he had been reading recently anyway.

Tommy could tell that Bridget was taking a liking to Chelsea. The little girls was dominating the conversation, asking a ton of questions about Chelsea's school and friends and TV shows and everything else that came to the little girl's mind.

That pretty much sealed the deal right there, although it did make Tommy a bit hesitant to hire the pretty college student. He didn't want Bridget to get too attached to someone who very well may up and disappear on them.

Eventually, Bridget got distracted by an older woman with a small fluffy lapdog sitting nearby, and Tommy finally was able to get a word in edge-wise. "So, I need somebody all day Saturdays and Sundays, probably for the next month or so. I have to be out the door at six AM, and I need someone who can be there on time. You'd be more than welcome to sleep on the couch at my apartment, if that would help. She seems to really like you, so I'd like to offer you the job, if you still want it. I understand it might get in the way of weekend partying, but I'll pay you a hundred bucks a day."

Chelsea found herself actually enjoying talking with little Bridget. Although four, she was quite smart and observant. She seemed to have been raised right - so far. Bridget was very interested in Chelsea's personal life; she could tell they would get along well. She found herself hoping almost immediately that she would get the job, and not just for the money.

When Tommy explained what he would need, Chelsea hesitated only for a second. She did like to party on the weekends, but it was only for like a month. Plus, that's what Thursday and Friday nights were for.

"I would like to say yes. I only have one question," she replied, "How does her mom feel about you hiring a ... College girl for this position?" She asked gently, knowing it was a possibility that Bridget's mom was out of the picture.

Tommy smiled softly, and almost sighed at her question. There was a time that any reference to Gwen was enough to anger him greatly, but no longer.

"Her mother's been gone for a while," he replied, turning to look at Bridget. He took a deep breath and looked back at Chelsea. "I don't expect her to come back anytime soon, either," he said. "It's been me and her for three years now." He took a drink from his coffee. "So, will I see you Saturday morning?" he asked her.

Chelsea should have expected such an answer. However, she was happy to see that Tommy wasn't upset or sad, or so it seemed. She smiled warmly at him in response. "You seem to have raised her very well on your own."

"You will...if you give me your address." She winked at him and handed him a small notebook to write in. She was always well-prepared.

"Thank you," he said. He often had doubts about his ability to raise a little girl by himself, and it was nice to hear someone say he was doing a good job. He smiled, relieved. He had a good feeling about her, though he wasn't sure why. He took her pen and wrote down an address that wasn't far from the University. "I'll have to buzz you in the front door of the apartments," he explained, writing down the apartment number as well.

"Umm, bring a swimsuit if you want. There's a pool and Bridget is an excellent swimmer."

"Yes I am!" came the little voice next to him. "Are you my new babysitter?" Bridget asked Chelsea excitedly.

Chelsea and Tommy shared something in that moment. She couldn't explain it, but he definitely seemed cheerful. And...relieved. "I'm honest." She said with a shrug. She looked down at the address, mentally mapping how she would get there.

"Great. I love swimming!" She said, to both Tommy and Bridget, "and yes, hon, it sure looks that way. Is that okay with you?" She knew how children had most of their choices made for them, as it had to be, but it was nice to ask what they thought once in a while.

"You have my number and I have yours now, so you can reach me at any time," she said to Tommy, slightly avoiding his gaze. He was mesmerizingly handosme. Chelsea hoped this initial attraction would fade or they were gonna have a problem.

Bridget's smile got real big, and she nodded up and down enthusiastically.

"Great, thanks again," Tommy said. He got up and tousled Bridget's hair. "Ready to go sweetheart?"

Bridget frowned for a second, and then smiled. "Can we ride down by the water today?" she asked. There was a bicycle path that ran along the San Francisco Bay. "I wanna see the bridges."

"Sure honey," he said, and she grabbed his hand and started dragging him out of the coffee shop. "See ya Saturday," Tommy said to Chelsea, waving goodbye.

Saturday came around soon enough. Tommy got up at the regular time, five AM, and started getting ready for his day. He stretched his body out carefully, getting the blood moving. He did his morning meditation, and then made coffee and eggs and toast for breakfast. This was usually when Bridget would wake up, and sure enough, the bleary-eyed child walked into the kitchen. "Good morning sunshine," Tommy said, pouring her a cup of milk.

"Is Miss Chelsea coming today?" Bridget asked. She'd been asking that every morning since they'd met the pretty college student. Tommy smiled. "Yep, today's the day, she'll be here any minute," Tommy said.

Chelsea left the cafe hours after Tommy and Bridget, glad she was able to focus on her studies, despite his good looks. I never asked how old he was! She shook her head. That didn't matter. This was a professional tranasaction. She had babysat for many, many families and single parents.

********************

Saturday morning, Chelsea dragged herself out of bed bright an early. Not a morning person, she was surprised she'd managed to get up on time. That, paired with the fact that she had gone to bed at midnight, five hours earlier. She hadn't planned to go out, but one of her friends had invited her to a party. One thing led to another and she'd ended up making out with some incredibly hot frat guy.

She made her way across campus on foot and knocked on Tommy's door. Five thirty-five - she was early. She had gotten dressed quickly in her bedroom, not bothering to put on any make-up; she was cute without it. If only she had looked in the mirror, she would have noticed the dark hickey low on her cleavage.

When Tommy heard the knock on the door, he smiled with relief. He checked the clock; she was plenty early. He walked over to the door and opened it for her. "Hi Chelsea, come on in," he said with a smile. He was still wearing his pajama pants and a tee shirt. "We're just finishing breakfast," he said. "Let me show you around." He closed the door behind her.

For a young, single guy, his apartment was remarkably clean and organized. It definitely wasn't a bachelor pad. The place was painted with muted colors; he had nice furniture on clean hardwood floors. He walked her through the place. "Living room, kitchen. Bedrooms are over there. Bathroom right here. That's really about it. It ain't much but its ours."

Bridget came running into the room and hugged Chelsea around the legs. "And Bridget can show you where the pool is," he said with a smile. The little girl had already changed into her swimsuit. "Excuse me," he said, and went back to his bedroom to change into work clothes. He came back out a few minutes later in jeans and a worksite-orange tee-shirt. He grabbed his keys off a hook on the wall next to the door.

"Hey kiddo, have fun today," he said, bending down to give his little girl a hug in his strong arms. She squeezed him tightly and then ran back to Chelsea. Tommy smiled at Chelsea. "Thanks again," he said. "I'll be home around five," he said. "There's plenty of food in the fridge. Anything else, just call me."

Chelsea couldn't help but briefly check Tommy out. It was natural! She was an eighteen year old girl with rampant hormones; a hot guy was gonna make her pay a little more attention. That was that. She smiled at him as she entered, following him as he gave her the grand tour. But damn did he have a nice butt!

Chelsea was quite impressed with the apartment. It wasn't what she expected at all. It was actually nicer than most of the apartments off or on-campus that she had seen thus far. Well-decorated and taken care of; this guy was not a messy bachelor. He was....a dad, she reminded herself.

Bridget was incredibly excited to see Chelsea, which put a smile on her face. Babysitting could be rough if the kid screamed for mommy and/or daddy all day. But the little girl seemed just fine with her dad going off to work. She was obviously used to it. She put her hand down on top of Chelsea's head, stroking her hair momentarily. Swimming? Now?

"Um, no rules?" She asked, realizing Tommy hadn't exactly given her a long list of "don't's" as most parents did.

Tommy smiled softly at his daughter and then at Chelsea, feeling better already about this arrangement. "Swimming pool doesn't open til ten," he said. "And as for rules, the biggest thing here is just common sense. She knows to pick up after herself and to stay out of Daddy's room, right Bridget?"

The little girl nodded and smiled. "And I have to read a book for a while after watching tv," she said.

"That's right. Umm, other than that, there's really not much. She can have a little snack between meals but don't let her pig out on the cookies. All the books are over there on that bookcase," he said, pointing to a nearly overflowing bookcase against the wall in the living room. The bottom few shelves were full of kiddie books, and above that was an impressive collection of his own. "Like I said, feel free to call if you have any questions."

Chelsea listened pretty carefully. She was impressed, for two reasons. One being that the little girl had been raised well enough to behave and not NEED excessive rules to keep her in line. The other being that he was relaxed enough to raise his kid without bombarding her with rules, just out of fear or who knows what else.

She nodded, "I will call you if we need anything, but I've certainly 'sat before." She quickly added, "See you at six, Tommy." She bent down to take the excited Bridget into her arms, giving him an unintentional eyeful of boobage.

"Sounds good," Tommy said, averting his gaze when he saw a bit of Chelsea's cleavage when she bent over. "I gotta run."

He stopped at the door and turned back. "Almost forgot," he said, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a key ring with a single key on it. "Please lock the door if you go down to the pool. Bridget, be good for Miss Chelsea!"

"Okay Daddy!"

And Tommy headed out the door to get to work.

Chelsea hadn't noticed her breasts being slightly bared to Tommy initially, but she had certainly noticed him purposefully look away. She briefly wondered if he found her unattractive. No man had ever done something like that before - not that she had noticed anyway.

She waved goodbye with Bridget, pocketing the key, and leading her over to the bookshelf to read.

Almost twelve hours later, when Tommy was due to return home, Chelsea and Bridget lay asleep on the couch. They had gone for an afternoon swim after a snack, and fallen asleep together with a pile of books, still in their bathing suits.

Tommy had had a long day. There were lots of critical welds to make, so there was a lot of stress. It was a dirty job, to be sure, and when he got home he was covered in dirt and dust and grime. He opened the door. "Hello?" he called out as he walked inside.

He made it into the living room, stepping lightly in spite of his heavy steel-toes boots. He smirked when he saw the two of them passed out on the sofa with all the books. That made him happy, to see all the books. He looked around and saw that the place was still nice and clean.

He gently grabbed hold of Bridget's foot and shook it a bit. "Wake up kids," he said, "Daddy's home."

Bridget opened her eyes slowly and then quickly got up and gave Tommy a hug. "Hi Daddy," she said. He tousled her hair a bit as Chelsea stirred, and knelt beside his daughter. "Did you have fun today?" he asked her. She nodded happily. "What did you do?"

"We read books and watched Toy Story and went swimming and read some more," she said. "Can Miss Chelsea come back tomorrow?"

Chelsea had rarely been asked to clean or even to pick up after kids when she babysat, but she always did. Not for the tip, or even for the acknowledgment, but for the look on their faces. Parents did enough as it was. Coming home to a clean, tidy house was always a relief.

"Hi," she replied, sitting up, almost face to face with the kneeling father. "Sorry, we fell asleep after a swim. Guess we were tired! Busy day." She was a little embarrassed, but it wasn't the end of the world.

"That's the plan, little cutie!" She replied, happy that Bridget wanted her back the next day. "I might actually end up crashing back here, if that's still okay. I need to go home and get my study stuff. But getting up and walking over here again at five am isn't super appealing." She looked at him, hoping he would still be okay with it, "Though I'll manage, if not."
