Voted the last one but only the first half of it. I take very seriously the fact of these fears for folk. And I did have a couple of them in the past. Now, No. None of them. I think it's about maturing, but more than that: maturing in the context of being loved. And I'm talking about three or four 'being loveds' that have formed me and fled my fears. [ooh bit deep; enough, Simon].

I voted for the fear of death.

But what actually scares me to death is the fear of getting old.

heights..OMG I even hate step ladders

I can't resist, seth: try this, it might give you step ladder security:

The fear of snakes ... it's primitive: I feel my skin bump from the inside when I see one of those

Death after watching my wife get diagnosed with a cancer then go through the entire treatment journey. She won the battle but it was the scariest thing I've ever experienced.

Good on you both mate. And respect. And well wishes still.

[this is an example of why I posted 'not the second half' of the last poll option]

Definitely insects, esp wasps. I am highly allergic.

um, good thing i don't have a fear of heights

i have a fear of rejection. my siblings have told me all my life that i'm not good enough, so i'm always afraid that others won't think i'm good enough, that i don't matter. my brother went as far as to tell me i shouldn't get a divorce from my ex-husband (who was mentally abusive) because i'd never find anyone else to be with me. that's probably why i stayed in the marriage so long.
One thing I have heard is "Don't allow others opinions of you become your reality". Another thing I've observed & learned is that people see themselves in other people, what they see in others is really a reflection of themselves.

Death...I'm a fearful person...lots of things frighten me...I have to sleep with the light on when I'm alone, Heights paralyse me and I'm terrified of flying but won't allow that to stop me from going to places I want to visit...I even flew to Thailand alone because the journey was made worthwhile by what was at the end of it...

My biggest fear used to be intimacy, which was strange as it was the thing I craved the most, but now I actually have it, true intimacy, the like of which I have never experienced before with someone who is prepared to share as much of himself as I am with him, that the fear is gone and I'm unsure what I was ever afraid of...

Your journey into intimacy - amazing and beautiful. Thanks for giving us that.

I have two people in my life battling cancer; a brother and a friend. My oh, so brave and ever optimistic friend has run out of options. Its just a matter of time now. Time spent crying because you know there is no hope and you want the suffering to end. My brother, so courageous and strong his whole life, has given up hope but I cannot fathom why. The worst of his procedures have passed and there is hope for a full recovery. He has stopped fighting. My greatest fear...losing them; something I have no control over.
