ah yes, my company's attention to cultural sensitivity is so overdone that it is kind of offensive. well I can't say for a fact of how the different cultures take it, but I shared about the course material used for teaching how to interact with American women. Yes indeed I am an american who had to take a foreign taught course on how to interact with Americans and I am an American woman who had to have a special course taught by foreign men on how to interact with American women. Ah required HR training.

I hate annual reviews as well. We have to write our own "Performance Plan" in December for the upcoming year, provide a six-month update in June and do the final evaluation in December. (We have to evaluate ourselves on a standard that we also set).

in theory yes, in actuality no. My boss's supervisor was the one conducting the review, but he didn't join, only my boss joined, and my boss actually wrote the review for him. Granted I don't speak to my boss that much, and I have never met him, but we talk some and I have worked for him for several years.

The truth about my job is my job is keep the client happy, know my shit, build it right, build it fast, build it in budget, make sure it don't break, and if it does, fix it fast and it stays fixed. If I am doing my job correctly, the people above me talk to me very little as there is no reason. Sure, occasionally people go over your head to speak of your awesomeness, which is actually the only time my boss hears about me, but usually, if someone goes over your head, it is because they are not pleased You either screwed up, you didn't fix a problem fast enough, don't seem competent of the task, or someone didn't like something you said. If you never screw up, you attend to any issues quickly, you hit all your timelines and budgets, you don't piss anyone off, and, in general, are always bulletproof, no one hears or thinks about you much. For me personally, the biggest compliment is their lack of attention. I have never met my superior, his supervisor, or anyone in the chain above me. They only show when they think they need to. I am the only area they have never scheduled a visit in. They don't contact me to reiterate timelines or check in to make sure I have no issue with a project scope. I think it is awesome when my boss calls because he realizes that it has been a couple months since we spoke and he feels like it is just wrong to go so long but then he excuses i t with he knows I have it so he doesn't think about checking in, and he is correct. It is kind of like how if my mother and I go long periods without talking, when we finally do she expresses some level of guilt, but states I am the kid she knows she never has to worry about and I am good. She is also correct

The biggest compliment is simply trusting I have my shit together, I always have my shit together, I will always have my shit together, you never need to worry, know I don't need anything, trust failure is simply not an option for me, and trust, no matter what, I have your back and the buck stops with me. That is why I don't think, in this case, it is a flawed process. He and those above him couldn't remain as hands off as they are without believing this. Otherwise, they would look bad if something went wrong.

Though I do always answer personality tests truthfully, as I am always offered the job, but it feels wrong, as I basically answer yes to behaviors that you'd think they avoid.
