yeah they are showing more women get tested than men like 56/44, but less women test positive than men, and overall positive results are like 52/48 in favor of women. Women getting tested more without having it does not surprise me. women are more likely to have health anxiety and be seeking out testing facilities without having many indications. and it looks like men account for more hospitalizations here too a a 54%/46%. my area is still a stark contrast comparatively.

Well, again some variation but not like that. probably the combination of lower testing and dirty jobs. ok, the age range of our positive cases is 8 - 107. no the 107 isn't a typo. we have a couple cases in those over 100. They are doing ok, I guess. I mean I don't give them great odds of surviving the day, but I didn't give them great odds of surviving the day for the past 30 years. they have all been positive for over a week. one might be classified as recovered by now. we have had two deaths, both elderly women.

average age of infection is 74.

gender breakdown 84% female 16% male. yeah, that is odd. I think nationwide the breakdown is 52% women 48% men, and florida is running 50/50. hum, why the lower number of men in my county?

could it be that women have a lower personal space requirement then men in general. Maybe that explains the national, but that doesn't really explain that variance.

do we have a gender disparity in general? well, actually, we do. 56% men and 44% women. We have more men living here yet way less men testing positive.

life expectancy in my area averages 74 for men and 79 for women, which is 2 years less than the national average. That is due to a higher rate of obesity, nicotine, alcohol, lower seat belt usage, and less medical care. Are the men just not living long enough to have age related immune system weakening. Well nationwide, cases in those over 74 only account for 15%. 82% are adults below 74 and the 20 to 44 is the highest bracket.

could it be we simply aren't testing men. Maybe, they don't release the demographics on tests by gender by county. As a whole, historically, we aren't doctor people. maybe the men are even worse about that. it would not surprise me. However, according to the health department, 75% of adult men in my county saw a doctor in the past year, a huge jump from a decade ago and not much below the rate of women, which also jumped a lot in the past decade. Maybe we are doctor people now. Plus, they say covid symptoms hit men harder so wouldn't there be more women not getting testing because they are more likely to be less sick.

so yeah, wtf? why such a disparity. What do our men do or not do that isn't mirrored by our women or most of america?

um, well 28% of our adults use chewing tobacco and less than .1 percent of women here, so more than half of our men are walking around with tobacco in their mouths most of the time. oh and beer. 25% are heavy drinkers.

hum what else? low amount of professional men. most men are blue collar. A lot in mechanical and electrical trades, construction, natural resource mining, manufacturing, lawn etc. In theory, maybe the harshness of the conditions causes them to wear masks, but in reality, almost never. Maybe given their hands are usually dirty, they have developed a habit of not touching their faces. That I could totally believe, except how do they get the tobacco in their mouths?

Yeah, this is what I am pondering today. why do women in my county reflect state trends and percentages but men are not. This trend is also reflected in another nearby rural counties though not as severe, like a 35/65 gender breakdown for those. I don't know, I think it is interesting.

so in other news, do you know that in a number of corrections institutions now use a system called smartjailmail. they are email kiosks that inmates pay 50cents a message to use, that sends to people you have signed up, screens and filters automatically to alert to images, keywords etc. Smart design actually and revenue generating for the institution.

Now how did I find out about this...by getting an automated request triggered by a friend sending the request from jail. So now, of course first thing I do is pull records, so I know what to expect. I have loosely mentioned this friend before but more his soon to be ex wife and his kid. He is Wolfensteinramadamadingdongs dad. Also, side note, the kid changed their name again. Still weird but only 3 syllables this time. hoping this one sticks. he doesn't actually live with them anymore, she was one of those women I mentioned who was counting down the years, and she had good enough reasons. Truth, if we have to pick, we pick her and the kid. We have all been friends for over 20 years, he was the first friend, but he just never really got his shit together, ya know. young and crazy is one thing, once you are no longer young though, yeah, we pick her.

So anyway, when she kicked him out, he moved in with a group of college kids. So yes, jail text. Pull court records, and I find a week ago, he drove through someone's yard, trashing a fence, utility box, and his van. Fled. Got stopped not all that much later, and blew a .35. So he is in jail and charges are careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, dui with property damage, and dui with a minor in the vehicle (I can only assume one of the college kids must be 17). Bail is $5000. ok, yeah lets see what he has to say. he best not be asking for bail. I don't trust him enough for that kind of cash. besides the last 3 friends I lent money too died before paying it back. I think asking me for money is bad luck at this point.

ok, so I sign up and add him to my list, and send him the automated request. I still am not sure what he wants. He messaged saying he got stopped at a checkpoint after a couple of shots, then while he was in jail, the kids stole his van, and crashed it, and stole other stuff. And that he will be getting out on Tuesday but feel free to message as he isn't going anywhere now. So he is lying, as I read the report and know how the damage to the vehicle occurred, and the man drinks like a fish, a couple of shots wouldn't put him at a .35, I'd guess more like 20/25 shots. And still hasn't stated what he wants. Truth, not sure if he will actually get out on Tuesday. He will be arraigned Tuesday according to court records but I know wifey isn't bailing him out. I don't see them lowering bail at the arraignment. Well, unless maybe he has a plea deal in place that will be handled at the arraignment, but he has plead to 2 felonies back in the day for reduced jail time, I just don't see a no jail plea happening here.

Either way, that still leaves what is he going to ask for. fingers crossed he is just bored looking for a life line, but I suspect he is going to ask to stay here, as I bet somehow the college kids parents issued an ultimatum. Now, historically my door has always been open, over the years, at least 14 down on their luck friends have stayed with me, but I ended that 7 years ago. When I found out I was pregnant, told the freeloader of the time he had go. Not that their aren't many friends I would let stay with me, but they are my friends that have their shit together, and since they have their shit together, the don't ask or need. His wife and kid, in a heartbeat, no questions asked. I just don't trust this dude to not fuck up my life somehow. I'd have no problem taking the risk when it was just hubby and I, but I am not taking that kind of risk at this point in my life. fingers crossed he is only needing a life line and entertainment. I might even be willing to loan him a few hundred, that would be ideal, as he'd avoid me until he could pay it back lol.

Speaking from experience, getting a test is very difficult. I’ve had some flu-like symptoms for over a week and have been self quarantined for as long, but because I don’t have a fever, I can’t get a test.
