So everything was fine and then suddenly all my graphics disappears. Pictures and icons and whatever.

Internet explorer Version six with all the updates and everything. Anyone have any ideas? I'm still on Win 98 (Lord help me!!!) so I'm told Version six is the latest I can do. Oh yeah. Seems like not every site is doing this to me, just some. Like Lit!

HAAAALP!!!

tools/options/advanced
look at the multimedia section and make sure "show pictures" is still checked.

Other than that, clear your cache on the general tab and restart.

Well, the problem isn't Internet Explorer, it's you using Internet Explorer!
Stop using it and go with Firefox.
www.getfirefox.com - only stupid people doesn't go over.

Before i got firefox i had all sorts of problems. now everything is fine and I'm happy again!!!

(I was gonna make this one of those long things like the infomercials but i have no patience)

Another Firefox convert. :) Been using it for the last three or four years, and have absolutely no reason to use I.E., thank god.

mjl, you get it fixed? Even if you did, I highly recommend switching to FF. It's built in pop-up blocker is worth it alone!

And for all ppl that love porn sites and want to download embedded pics and vids easier from a site....try these FF add-ons.

Video Downloader

Unplug

Ook

Downloadhelper

This is a not really an add on, but an .flv (flash video) player. It's free and works great. Stand alone free FLV player At the bottom of page.

Netscape or Firefox.... I'm using Firefox now too. I think IE was made for mistakes to pop up every 30 seconds... I'm on Win98se too, and it does just fine. :)

Its Firefox all the way for me. The new Internet Explorer 7.0 seems like it was programmed to be great for allowing spyware in. I noticed that when I upgraded it for the hell of it, and noticed that it integrated a toolbar from Yahoo messenger without even asking me if it was OK.

Microsoft has always excelled in such nonsensical programming. You both sound surprised.

Win98 may not be the most stable of the Winblowz platforms, but the most secure (if patched properly, imo) and uses the least amount of resources. It's alwo the easiest to work with. If you ever upgrade, go to Win2kPro. WinMe, well, just sucks. XP Pro is ok, but uses tons of resources. I have a small home network consisting of 5 machines. 2 run 98, 2 run 2000P. The 5th is Mac OS 8.6. I would run 98 on 3, but 98 won't run on a machine faster with a cpu faster than 2.4Ghz.

I run FF on all but the Mac and wouldn't use IE if someone payed me to.

I was going through some old disk's today and found my old Win3.1 floppies...lol.

I have a Mac too, a G3. I do most of my work on it. The pc is just for printing and getting online. They're not networked tho. You have all those OSes and no Linux Mandrake? I'm apalled....lol.

Some sites still require IE, so don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I think I've seen a plugin or two for Firefox which may let it process those IE only sites.

The big thing to check first is if they really need IE or if they just need a browser which can identify as IE. I've been amused the IE only sites I've been able to make work just by having Opera identify as IE when the webserver queries. It's also interesting to do at times because some sites will give significantly different content depending on which browser you are using.

Unfortunately, I don't think they have added this masking ability into Firefox yet.

Yeah, I know. I have a couple old P-II's, a P-III, and an old AMD (my fav) K6 laying around collecting dust. I just haven't found the time to put together a Linux box. Keep telling myself I will, but it always get put on the back burner.
Mmmm...a woman that may just be as big a computer geek as I. I'll have to keep my eye on you. ;)

Yeah, there is, or was. I had one but never used it. I think it was named "Chrome". And correct, some sites deliver different content depending on the browser. In my experiences, not much. And honestly, I have yet to come across an "IE only" website I was unable to view with FF.

Firefox.

I agree. I switched to Firefox four years ago and I never want to go back to IE. It's easy to use, safer and it seems to be faster than IE as well.

Last time I ran into a "chrome" with a Mozilla product, it was the default theme for Thunderbird, but who knows. Names get recycled all the time.

The main site that came to mind was when M$ was playing games with their MSN.com site and set it up so that if the browser didn't ID as IE, it shunted the user off to a page saying they couldn't access the site. I have run into a couple major ActiveX powered sites that the only way I could view them was with IE. They were both government sites, so I didn't figure I had much to worry about. Even less since the copy of M$Windows I used was running as a VM on my Linux box.

Wouldn't happen to have a TI994a lying around too? That's where I got my computer freak on first! You have to be that weird to have ENIAC tattoo on your backside...lol. I didn't know you could make FF look like IE tho. I can't make my PC acknowledge FF as the main browser cos when I tried it once, all the html files blanked out! Like they had no faces. So, I put IE back as the main browser, and now they have faces. I use FF to browse the net tho.

Nope. C64, then C128, then an 8088. Lol. Still have the C64 and 128. The movie "Wargames" had a hand in turning me into a geek. Nice thing is, I look nothing like it. Geek incognito! I'm curious, what version of FF are you using? When I tried to upgrade mine to V2 on my 98 box, I had problems. I still have V1.1 laying around if you'd like to try it. Only problem with that is some of the plug-ins (like the ones I linked above), aren't compatible with v1.1. But the Chrome (IE) plug-in did. I'll have to see if I can find that plug in. Here's a different one (haven't tried it) FF IE addon / plug-in.

Now, about that tattoo...I'll show you my ink if you show me yours
