DeSantis for the win!

I am really confused as to why you think the whole anti-mask, anti-vaccine political stance is NOT a policy. And it is one that costs the US and the people of Florida money, a LOT of money. A shot costs the government about 40$ Each (at the highest estimate), not counting the administration fee. (https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnla...id-19-vaccine-administration/?sh=4ca7d2fa362e) A monoclonal antibody treatment (the DeSantis “solution”) *after* a person has covid costs upwards of 2100$ depending on how sick the person has become. And then there is the potential hospital stay if the person is on Medicare? So the treatment is not always a single infusion. This amount does not count the administration fees which is much higher than the fee for a shot. (https://www.healthline.com/health-n...much-does-monoclonal-antibody-treatment-cost?) A *good* mask (N95 or KN95s) costs OTC at Walmart about 3$ And the government is giving those away too.

“Resonating” does not matter where science and money are concerned. In fact, “resonating” is a big part of the problem when it comes to covid. “Resonating” and one man’s overwhelming desire for power and money are the only reasons that covid will not be a thing of the past for a long, long time, maybe never.
He did attack his policies. DeSantis had a terrible policy regarding Covid and it cost thousands of lives.

Well they do not work the way they could if many people are not cooperating with the whole picture. Covid is a very novel virus still. People are often carriers with no symptoms. If you test you have to do so at the right time (which is not terribly predictable). The home tests are not always accurate. The lab tests are better but take longer so that, unless a person is isolated during the wait time, that person is out and about during the most infectious time, the first few days typically. The scientists never claimed the vaccines would prevent people from getting covid, just that it would exponentially lower their risk of serious illness or death. If everybody wore masks, got vaccinated, and responsibly isolated, covid would have been over a LONG time ago. But they do not. The county where I live in Florida has the highest per capita death rate from Covid in an already highly infectious state because they are not. And that is neither anecdotal nor bullshit. 😁🐝
This explanation makes the most sense but I have the feeling it might be too many words for some of the anti-vaccers that have made up their minds. Wife and I are both vaccinated and double-boosted. She helps with daycare and grandkids. Parents need reliable care for the kids so they can go to work. Wife just contracted it for the first time and the case was milder than most colds we've had. Some congestion, a sore throat for a couple of days, a low-grade fever that went away after about 36 hours. Now on day 9 after 5 full days of quarantine, she's singing at a small-ensemble concert outdoors.

It would be so much better if everyone would get vaccinated and/or have the boosters. The masking, social-distancing and isolation periods are getting old. Oh, by the way, we live in a house that is next to impossible for one to isolate. Made it work though and I have tested negative twice, no symptoms, etc.

Desantis is an ivy-league educated fool who can spend millions and may go to the big show. Will fall short, however. Trumpism, in any of its forms is going to be a thing of the past beginning with the mid-terms.

Next thing you know, Desantis will be doing battle with drag queens. Why would anyone want to have fun in Florida? Remember Milton Berle on prime time television. Helped to warp my thinking as a kid, for sure:

There is no “anti-mask” or “anti-vaccine” policy in Florida. Nobody in Florida has been prohibited from wearing masks or getting vaccinated. Florida’s policies were far less draconian in terms of mandates and lockdowns than states such as California that imposed extreme measures on the public (but not its politicians of course) yet Covid deaths per thousand have been not been significantly different despite having a population that skews heavily toward older, higher risk people. His handling of Covid is a big reason he’s going to be handily re-elected.

Good for Florida. You can keep him. We don't need more authoritarian dictator types on the national scene. My Floridian relatives are welcome to visit me in my blue state anytime. Legislators that want their people to have their freedoms with regard to the policies you reference and then try to use politics, religion and authoritarian decision-making to dictate what I read, where I worship, who I may love, etc. can stay in Florida. The older, higher risk people are expendable. Good place to live out their fantasy of what constitutes "freedom". (O btw. I'll be 70 this fall, Boomer.)

I don’t live in FL. Like their governor though. My early choice for POTUS in 2024. If you ever venture out of your blue state and visit your relatives, you’ll be surprised and no doubt happy to learn that despite what you might have been told by your favorite corporate media outlet, you can read any book you want, worship in any church, and love anyone you want.

Until the current SCOTUS finishes their work?

Yo

Yes there is. I lived through it, surprisingly, considering that I was doing hard chemo at the height of the pandemic before there were any vaccines while others had the “freedom” to expose me fully to their germs. I stayed home a lot except for medical facilities where masks were inevitably mandated. DeSantis’ wife was treated for breast cancer at that same time, but we did not hear any complaints or lawsuits from him about those mandates. He seems to have bought into the science when it affected one of his loved ones Who certainly had someone to run her errands for her so that she did not have to brave things like walmart and Publix to buy food. Sorry. His handling of covid changed my mind about him and he has since lived down to that impression in a variety of ways. He sold his honor to the Donald.

Jeb and DeSantis. Florida seems to elect governors without charisma. Florida's money propels them to national ambition, where Jeb couldn't buy a round of applause.
You left out Governor Voldemort (or to some Governor Gollum). Ever see a photo of Rick Scott? 🤣

Well, you can.

^Exactly the problem!

Like the saying goes, In Iran and Afghanistan, hard-line fundamentalist muslims will claim they have as much freedom as anyone in the world. In a sense, they are right- they are absolutely free to worship as they choose, and live their lives as they choose.
Everyone else, however....this is obviously not the case.

So it is with the DeSantises of this world. They can impose their Orwellian or Atwoodian vision of "utopia" on the rest of this country and proclaim loudly how much "Freedom" they gave everyone- and a handful of fundamentalist, misogynistic and homophobic people will cheer loudly and proclaim that DeSantis "Gave them their Freedom.". While in reality, everyone else actually chafes under their draconian and authoritarian rule.

Bottom line...DeSantis is horrible. A horrible governor and a horribly flawed human being. He has no buisness being in any kind of authority in the United States, as he clearly has no proper understanding of how a government is supposed to function in a free society.

If DeSantis haters really wanted to curb his growing popularity in Florida and nationally, they would criticize the one action he’s taken that could come back to bite him. Earlier this year he signed a bill designating strawberry shortcake the official state desert. Big Strawberry is happy, but Key Lime Pie lovers are not. One poll shows that 89% of Floridians prefer Key Lime pie.
