Disney calls DeSantis' bluff

Or pay their property taxes or go by Florida state regulations.
Corporations are considered individuals under the law. They have to pay their taxes and abide by the law.
Also, once they leave their lane, expect consequences. Isn't that what your lot has been doing for years? Trying to cancel anyone and everyone who disagrees with you?
Disney paid property taxes, you are misinformed.

If "Corporations are considered individuals under the law", shouldn't they be empowered to have a First Amendment right to say what they like without fear of government retribution? They spoke out against Florida's homophobic "Don't Say Gay" law, and DeSantis' subsequent actions are textbook examples of "government retribution". DeSantis is the one attempting "cancellation", not Disney.

Ron DeSantis takes control of Disney’s governing district after ‘don’t say gay’ row
Move comes after Florida governor lashed out at theme park’s protest of law restricting sexual orientation discussion in schools

The Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has signed a bill that wrests control of Walt Disney World’s self-governing district, in a move seen as punishing the company for its opposition to his so-called “don’t say gay” law.

“Today the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” he said at the bill signing in Lake Buena Vista in his trademark bullish style. “There’s a new sheriff in town, and accountability will be the order of the day.”

Now Disney won’t do all that gay stuff they do in movies that no one sees because no one watches Disney movies anymore because of all of the gay stuff.

I'm wracking my brains trying to figure out what you're referring to by "all the gay stuff" in Disney movies. Emperor Kuzco kissing Pacha in the Emperor's New Groove? A married gay couple in the new Buzz Lightyear movie? Officer Clawhauser in Zootopia?

Disney has lost money in the hundreds of millions. Iger just cut over two billion from MCU and other projects, they're streaming service is losing money.
They're hurting, and some, not all, but some of this goes back to them getting into politics even after Chapek publicly said that's not what they're about.

Everybody spends money and when you decide you want to try and side with politics, you're going to piss off one side and lose money. Why should a company have to make that choice?

They did and they're paying for it, but aside from that, they're product sucks. They have shit all over every franchise they purchased, and are too busy worrying about being 'woke' than putting out anything with mass appeal.

Desantis won over a lot of people in Florida the old fashioned way, he boosted the economy, created jobs, did well with taxes and education. A lot of dems had to vote for him to win by that margin. Because of that people are going to look at him, a guy who helped the working class, then look at multi billion dollar hasn't paid taxes in 50 years Disney, and say...know what, Disney? Fuck you.

If DeSantis hates Disneyworld so much, why did he choose it as the venue for his own wedding?

Disney was not engaged in woke politics and DeSantis wasn’t governor of FL when he got married. He even accepted campaign donations from Disney in his 2018 campaign.

In his victory declaration published in the WSJ this week DeSantis explained that Disney had been put on a pedestal in Florida for over 50 years. “That all changed when left wing activists working at the company’s headquarters in Burbank, CA pressured Disney to oppose Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Act.”

The governor goes on to share his view that “When corporations try to use their economic power to advance a woke agenda, they become political, and not merely economic, actors.” As politicians, DeSantis and the Florida legislature exercised political power of their own by curbing some of the special privileges Disney has enjoyed for decades. They started the legislative process in early 2022. In November, voters gave their seal of approval by re-electing him by a 19 point margin.

Hundreds of millions just means a few dollars off the stock.

To say that Disney hasn't paid taxes is factually incorrect.

Has Disney not paid taxes on the scale of Donald Trump not paying taxes?

Do Disney's products stink on the scale of Donald Trump's products stinking? (other than his wine, which isn't really his wine--he stole it from Pat Kluge in a distress sale.)

They certainly were, DeSantis knew it and didn’t have a problem with it….until they spoke out against one of his policies.

Disney can engage in whatever politics they want as long as they treat their employees and customers equally

In a non fascist state, they wouldn't need to be concerned about government retaliation.

Disney is free to engage in whatever politics it wants. It is no longer free to appoint the governing body of the special district, or use eminent domain to seize property outside its boundaries, assess its own property valuations, and exempt itself from building and fire codes. It is also free to leave Florida if it chooses.

When you get down to the details 3 things have been achieved:

De Santis has appointed a Committee which will take great care to do precisely nothing.
De Santis has blown off a lot of hot air.
De Santis has ensured that he and other Republican candidates might struggle with Corporate donations in the near future. He cannot afford to piss off major donors because he does not have the support of the white trash like the former President did.

All because they expressed their opinion as they’ve been doing for the past 25 years.

(No question about it. The beloved Mouse House is a very popular vacation destination.
It is. Disney singlehandedly invested in building out the Central Florida infrastructure and is the primary economic driver in the middle part of the state.....and yet you and your "elk" now clutch your collective pearls now (as Der Santis commanded) and dutifully regurgitate disproven talking points about Disney not paying their "fair share" of taxes.

Thats the height of intellectual dishonesty, IMHO.

I didn’t say anything about Disney not paying their fair share of taxes. I did mention fact that Disney has effectively done its own property tax valuation assessments. Presumably the governor was alluding to that in his comment about Disney not paying its fair share of taxes for regional infrastructure. At any rate, valuation assessments will now be overseen by board members appointed by the current and future governors.

YOU CALL YOURSELF AN AUTHOR...LOL

Deep State DeSantis.

That ^ is a fitting nickname.

BabyBoobs is running away from the truth about Deep State DeSantis using the government to punish free speech.

You are correct, and I was mistaken. It was Lovecraft and WallStreetGuy lying about taxes not being paid, not you. I apologize for that.

At the end of the day, DeSantis has used the power of the state government to usurp control of a local tax district. That's "big government encroachment" in my view, feel free to have an opposing opinion.

Precisely. All those stats on Disney viewership and merchandising, as well as the calls from my grandchildren about how much they love Disney movies, are actually just fake news put out by bots of the Deep State.

I can't wait until Jim Jordan's Committee completes its investigation of Hunter Biden's connection to this woke agenda scheme based in Orlando and Anaheim.
