Do you 'Accept Anonymous Feedback' on your stories?

Every since I've been getting hit with 'Please no Gay Stuff.' in my ongoing Femdom story(That's definitely going to have beta on alpha gay stuff) I've been considering turning off anonymous feedback.

About 4 out of every 5 comments I get are anonymous, so it would drastically cut down the number of comments I get. But I suspect a lot of those comments that are making requests and trying to steer the story into a different direction are coming from the same person anyways. So it would be interesting to see if they stop commenting once they can't be anonymous, or if they continue marching forward with their 'No Gay' campaign.

I'm fairly sure I'm going to turn off anonymous feedback before I drop part 8, but I wanted to hear how other people felt about turning it off before I actually do it.

Did you turn of Anonymous Feedback? Or do you allow it?

And Why'd you go with whichever option you chose?
I do accept anonymous comments. Because some of those people have very good insight and observations. The worst thing about the brain-dead anonymous commenters is that they give all anonymous commenters a bad name.

Why do some people feel the need to be abusive, when they are not prepared to tell you who they are? I only write for my own enjoyment. I'm not that bothered if other people read what I submit. As such, I turned off comments on my stories. However, so far, the response has been positive, over 70 stories submitted and rating over 4. I've just had to turn off all feedback, because I'm not prepared to put up with the abuse I just received in an anonymous email. That spoils it for anyone wishing to make contact. To be honest, knowing that there are people willing to send messages like that, makes me want to close my account.

I accept all comments. People are allowed to have their own reactions to my work positive and negative. In the same way they’re allowed to vote 1*. They still took the time to write out their thoughts. In terms of actual feedback and suggestions, I pay more attention to those that send an email and give me reasons why. I can then reply to them properly.

It's hard to take anything constructive from an email with a 'no reply' address, where the text is abusive and doesn't even mention which of my stories they are talking about.

i sometimes use Anon to comment on a nasty comment made by a troll commenting on another writer's story. That way, I avoid making an enemy who might decide to one bomb me. I don't care whether they post a comment about one of my stories or not. Shitty anonymous comments only reflect the character of the person who posts them, nothing else but it's still nice to tell them (anonymously)

But it's super easy not to take anything from it. ; )

My unsolicited advice.

There's nothing honorable or virtuous about willingly enduring harassment and rude comments on your stories. It's a stupid way to think.

Also, there are people who have never experienced what you've experienced on here, so they won't understand what you're going though. I very well could be one of them who just hasn't experience the level of abuse you have on here. So do what's best for your mental health, even if that means turning off anonymous feedback, or going as far as turning off all feedback plus ratings.

If you're not having fun on here because of anonymous haters, take their voice away.

Sticks and stone. Who cares?

Reader feedback is the whole reason why most of us publish here. If someone is going to limit that feedback in any way just because of some spiteful bullshit they are way too thin skinned for this place ... OR ... they're here mostly to have people tell them how awesome they are, or a bit of both.

So you can say that it's a stupid way to think all you want, but you're the fool. Either that or you're too full of yourself, or a little of both. Take your pick.

I've been trying to put it nicely all through this thread but whiny comments like this means that you;re just not getting it. Complaining about negative comments, comments that don't hit your ego-love button. Some fucking troll says something stupid or rude, we have to stop this! Whaaa! Fucking whiners. (eyeroll)

Wow, its almost like what i said personally upset you.

Thin skin.

We are posting our stories on a porn site. It's totally unreasonable to demand that all our commenters put their names down. Some of them have completely valid reasons to be anonymous.
I totally agree but that doesn't give them the right to be abusive. We publish our stories for people to read. Like them or dislike them but don't attack the author.

My most unhinged commenter has a login so I know all the comments are from the same person. I don't see how that makes it any better.

Agree with your point.

But is Rocketgrunt on your ID? No, of course not, its a penname/handle you created here to publish and comment under.

So isn't that also anonymous?

We're all anon in the sense were all using fake names and no one knows our real identity.

But other people seem afraid to even do that-the case of people who post generally decent comments. Then there are the people who are anonymous because all they spew is hate to the point they are too spineless to even have a fake name attached to their negativity. Those are the ones that give anon here and everywhere a bad name.

Back to my original point, we're all anon here and I've long advocated-and been in the minority in doing so-that anon be done away with. You need a handle to access stories to read, vote and comment.

The response is always "oh, no, but we'll lose readers" Yes, most likely, but if the only way to enjoy tens of thousands of free stories with 150-200 new ones a day is to create "Joeyreadssmut" I feel a lot of decent people will do so and the benefit is the trolls will be gone.

You'll have quality over quantity and way less bitching about anon comments.

Because that's the long-time eye rolling theme here,

"Oh anon is awful" Okay, let's get rid of anon-"Nooooooo"

Shut the anon comments off, shut comments off, deal with the anon comments without crying over them or just shut up about it period is where I am after years of this.

I don't have a problem with trolls. Let them troll who cares?

Oh, we care about your score and that our comments page is all pretty flowers. That's why.

I have 66 chapters and/or standalone stories and every one of them has a good enough score to get a red H. My comments are largely positive. If that was the only thing that mattered, I'd be fine with it.

Unfortunately, stories are placed on toplists, popular lists, and contest winnings based on getting high scores. And those scores are extremely susceptible to the whims of very small numbers of trolls. I personally have a small number of hater trolls, which doesn't impact me one way or another except that it functionally bars me from ever meaningfully participating in contests and kicks anything I ever write off any toplists.

I don't really mind the trolls, I mind the use of "average rating" as a metric for evaluating who gets valuable eyeball real estate when we know that on that metric specifically one troll can scream louder than a hundred fans. Trolls are gonna troll, but putting parts of the site completely at their mercy is a choice, and it's disgusting. What kind of message does it send when we show readers "the most popular stories" and it's just a list of stories that no one has bothered to troll?

Of course they have the right to be abusive.

People can say whatever they wish until it infringes on the rights of others. That's what free speech is.

Is it impolite, discourteous, even assholish for them to post abusive comments? Sure, probably. But it's still their right to do so. It's the writer's right to disable comments if they can't handle it. Seems to me there's already a good solution for this.

So ... you care about the score. And you care about it more than maximizing feedback.

The worst trolls are in LW category and the subject matter can vary greatly there. And, it seems that people who have been cheated upon seem to gravitate toward those stories, for reasons that I cannot comprehend. I think it would take a professional psycho-analyst to explain. But the short of it is, we have readers who are being emotionally triggered. To expect someone who has been triggered to think about anyone but themselves at that moment is not realistic, I think.

So, I would advise everyone to stop feeling so attacked when some poor reader whose wife/husband has destroyed their life, vents their anger and hurt on your story. Sure, we get those that do it just to be mean, but they are to be pitied as well. They are so unhappy with their lives (sexual or otherwise) that being hurtful is their only emotional release.

Delete the comment and move on.

Offensive comments are unacceptable.
At the same time, keep in mind that when reading a new story, readers will not necessarily click on the author's introduction page. Therefore, it is advisable to mention in the first part of a story if content is expected later on that is not obvious in that category but may bother some people. As a reader, it is quite disappointing to become emotionally involved in a multi-part story and then find something in later chapters that turns you off. It is true that these are free stories, but the reader still pays - with their own time spent reading your story.
In a given topic, e.g., femdom stories, relatively common tropes are public humiliation, cuckolding, and forced gay. However, not all femdom enthusiasts find these appealing, so they avoid such stories. Therefore, it is advisable to warn them at the very beginning. And as I see it, there is no indication of gay content at the beginning of the story you refer to.
And if the appropriate tags are not included because even the author does not know at the beginning where they want to take the story, why shouldn't the reader be able to write what they would like to see?
Of course, the reader should do this in a civilized manner.

Did you turn of Anonymous Feedback? Or do you allow it?
I allow it, but if it's some mindless nasty comment like "This sucks" (without saying WHY it sucks) or an attack on me or another commenter or writer, I delete it.

That's legit the opposite of what I said, though. I said that the ratings should be taken out of the calculations for who gets space on recommendation tabs because the ratings are dumb and gameable.
