I live in a suburb of Seattle. The traffic wasn't bad when we first moved here. Seattle is another matter!
This used to be farm country with long, winding roads, most of which cut off at some point. There are very few thru streets, especially leading to other cites. But high tech is taking over this area and people are flocking in at an unbelievable rate! Cookie cutter houses everywhere.
There are not enough schools so they are building new ones. But... One is on the route that I need to take to get to one city and the other is on the route I take to get to another city. Both are single lane roads so that's going to make for slow going!
Takes me an hour sometimes to get to my mom's place, a mere 6 miles away, because I need to make a left turn. I have sat at that light for 7 cycles before I made it though. Then often there is an accident a few miles beyond that and we get down to one lane and have to wait there.
I needed to go to the grocery store today for a few things. There are four within 2 miles of me. The problem? Three involve turning at or going through that dreaded light that I mentioned above.
The other involves turning left across a multi-lane highway. I could turn at the light but there is no way to turn into the parking lot so I have to go out of my way to turn around and come back. Getting out of that parking lot is even worse. Actually there is a store just beyond that's easier to get to but it's more of a dept. store. They do sell groceries but it's never a quick in and out. And the prices are high.
So I wound up driving 6 miles each way to a store where I knew there would be no problem today. There will be once they put that school in though!
I try to order as much as I can online but it's too expensive to get groceries that way.
Anyone else have a similar situation?
