What kind of work do you do? Does it make you happy or if you could wave a magic wand would you do something different?

I'm retired, I don't do any work at all, and it makes me happy.

Before I retired, I was a software engineer. What I used to say was, "I love my work, but my job is bullshit". As long as I could just write code, I was happy. The status reports, project schedules, department meetings, etc were a pain.

I now consider myself a food entrepreneur. Up until about a year ago I did YAWN consulting YAWN work for the YAWN US Gov't.

I love my work. I've not been this happy in my job in a long time.

I've been a teacher in an after school program for 6 years... it's been amazing. I've seen and experienced so much, and I can see the impact of my work and best of all I can play rock band at work and it's legit!

I've never had a job I couldn't do and only had one I wish I had never taken. Currently I work at a University in Administration and love it.. I have always loved my work, but this position is far and away the one that I've fit into the quickest and with the most joy.

I'm a stay-at-home mom and it is the most important thing I've ever done. It has its good days and bad days, especially as I have a toddler engulfed in the Terrible Twos. I do miss working outside the home, but it is so amazingly worthwhile to be there as my baby grows.

As for occupation, I am a jewelry designer with my own small business, but in this economy it does not pay the bills. I'd like to go back to college to finish my degree and find more financially stable work while expressing myself creatively by having my jewelry company on the side.

Ditto- teacher here too. I teach quite a wide range of ages, and it can be utterly thankless at times - why do some parents not believe that we have their kids' best interests at heart? Why are we paid like pondscum when we have young lives and minds in our hands?

However, I do think the rewarding moments more than make up for it.

An ex-student of mine just posted an amazing film clip on my fb page that he created as a way of showing me how someof the stuff I taught him has been valuable in his life. I can't watch it without crying- and I am so proud of him. Those are diamond moments.

I'm a college drop-out/fail-out (it was consensual, no doubts about it) working in a factory as an assembly line worker. The nights we get the products out, with minimal stress and proper time, are amazing. Those nights are few and far between though.

I'm also an aspiring fictioneer. It's not paying yet, but the group I work with is finally publishing in the next year after a four year project. Very exciting.

I enjoy what I do. I am a Union Industrial Sheet Metal/HVAC worker. I love doing fancy architectural work, especially with copper...but it being so prohibitively expensive nowadays, not a lot of it is being done. Hanging duct work you can drive a vehicle through is challenging too though, so I suppose I can enjoy that as well.

That sounds pretty cool, I love architecture-related stuff.

I'm in highways design, working for a consultancy on behalf of a Government agency in charge of England's motorways and trunk roads. I generally enjoy the job, but my pay stinks, and the people I directly work for are more interested in keeping the shareholders happy than their own staff. I'm firmly in the "better than no job at all" camp, I think.
