It's semantics to a certain extent, bit writing 'from' personal experience and writing 'about' personal experience are two different things. I don't see how you can NOT write 'from' personal experience. Everything we are derives from what we've been through. The way we view things, even what we choose to view is derived from our previous experience to some extent. Our personal fantasies didn't just manifest out of the ether, they were formed in the cauldron of our lives. We saw things we liked and started placing ourselves in those situations. Locke called it 'The Causal Theory of Perception'; we see the world through the filter of our life experience.

Now, writing 'about' our experience would be a choice we all have to make. How much personal information do we want to share. I have several stories that are based on specific instances in my life. The stories I built around those events are fantasy, but at their core is a truth about me. I really did try on my sister's prom dress and the zipper really did get stuck; The Green Dress. I did not, however, dress up as an anime school girl and give some guy I met at a party four blow jobs while playing a fictitious video game. Fantasy based on truth. But there is more to your stories than just BDSM.
No science fiction writer has ever traveled outside the solar system in a faster than light ship. But there is more to a story than that. The author has had a thousand conversations with other human beings, and that influences the conversations that happen in the story.

If two of your characters have an argument, then all the arguments you've been a part of or witnessed influence how you write that scene.

I certainly write from real experiences about the places I've been, or non-sexual things I have done in those places. I don't think I would portray a real life sexual experience in vivid detail, but there are only so many ways to have sex, so I certainly pull elements from real experiences, mix in some other fantasies, and let my characters go at it.
