My cat gets nowhere near the bed and this is for the following reason: I have MAJOR life-crippling allergies. We never intended to have a cat in the first place but Master fell for our little refugee and Master calls the shots. The only concession he makes to my allergies, on my respectful, submissive... erm... insistence, is that our bedroom stays cat-free. We keep the door closed and he's learned it's out of bounds. The cat that is... not Master.

I really really like Airwaves menthol gum.

Only after the requisite number of blowjobs.

Oh, I suppose you meant four-legged pets, right? I leave my pet rock in his place on the bookshelf most nights.

Like CM, I was looking for a "sometimes" option, so I went with both yes and no.

We have three cats, two female and one male. The male never sleeps on the bed. He'll hop up looking for attention, but doesn't sleep there when a human is in the bed. He's far too jumpy. The older female would love nothing more than to sleep on the bed 24/7, but she can get too territorial at times. She also studiously avoids the bed when there are the three of us in it. The littlest female wants to sleep on the bed, but she is far too fond of attacking the feets. Gotta go.

Still, they sometimes inhabit the bed when we're in it. And often snooze on the bed when we're not. The cutest thing? The youngest female will sometimes hop up on Youngest Son's bed and sleep with him. She'll lay next to him while he pets her in his sleep. :D

my 125 pound lap dog sleeps under the bed he is afraid of the dark

I want that dragon plushie.

Mail it this way!!!

:D

p.s. The dog isn't allowed upstairs at all, baby gate comes in handy there.
The cats sleep wherever the hell they want but I don't let them sleep in my bed when I'm there.
Having the hamsters or goldfish sleep in my bed would just be weird now surely, even for Lit. lol

SOOO many people have kitty cats!

We need a "post a picture of your pets" thread, like rightnowthisinstant.

"I have another kind of animal and no."

The only pets I have are my hedgehog, Hydro, and my beta fish, Tucker. Tucker wouldn't survive sleeping with me since I have just a regular spring mattress and not a water bed. And although I love Hydro so very much, his quills are not the best to snuggle with. Especially since he's nocturnal and would be crawling around my bed the entire night.

we have a good bit of land, and we have 10 cats. 4 of them sleep with us.

and three dogs over a hundred pounds each. they do not sleep with us. we don't have a big enough bed.

Yummers is all over the place at night. Sometimes she comes and sleeps with us - usually on top of my wife - and sometimes she's down on the couch, wherever she wants to be!

I don't know how to vote in this poll...

We don't have that kind of pets right now. When we did, my husband insisted on letting our cats and dogs sleep with us. I want outside pets only.

I honestly think you shouldn't have dogs or cats if they are outdoor only.

With dogs it depends on breed imo. I had really huge kind of shepherd dog that used to spend the night in the house with us when he was a puppy. He was never happy about that. I put up a fence around barn and let him "watch over", you wouldnt believe how much happier it made him to be outside and "do his job". He never wanted to come inside the house again, if I called him in he would act like he did something wrong and was being punished.

I was just scanning the forum and I though this said 'do your pests sleeps in your bed?' and I thought, 'why, yes. they do!' lol

Cats, certainly. Dogs, ehh. If you have a really big dog in a really nice area that isn't too hot or cold, and as long as you have a fenced area, I can totally see it's fine to allow the dog to go outside whenever s/he wants, like through a doggy door. But just chaining a dog outside on a tree and leaving it there...that makes me sick.

There's this little stray that someone left behind when they moved, living in the neighborhood. She sleeps on our front porch steps now, because we've taken to petting and talking to her. We've lived here for a year in this house now, so she trusts us enough to let us pick her up, I can even hand feed her now without her running away, and she'll even let me touch her while she's eating and she doesn't even growl. THAT'S what makes me pissed off the most of all. She's so sweet and I'm so glad that I can take care of her now and give her the things that she needs like attention, affection, and medical care, because no animal deserves to be abandoned to just ROT.

My neighbors, who have since moved away, had a dog that was outdoor-only. I'm not sure what breed she was, but she was HUGE, a big fluffy black dog. She was simply too big for the house, so her crate was on the back deck, and she had freedom to roam the high-fenced yard. And yet 90% of the time, we'd see her in only one spot: the corner closest to our house. We'd stick our fingers through the best we could and pet her and once we gave her some food, but this poor dog was STARVED for attention. She wasn't chained up, and she had food and water, but the poor thing was just so lonely all the time. She would bark excitedly when WE came home, and run down the deck steps and across the yard to see us at the corner. When she wasn't at the corner, she'd be on the deck, looking into the house through the glass door. I don't know why the family got a dog that was too big for the house. They had a little poodle who spent all her time inside, but the big dog was always outside. She wasn't aggressive; she had a very loud, deep bark, but she was quite gentle. Once the family went away for Thanksgiving and temperatures dipped below freezing, but the dog was still out back. We were about to call animal welfare when the family returned home the next day. I always felt so bad for the dog; I hope they moved to a place where she can be part of the family.

People who get dogs that are too big for their surrounding PISS ME OFF. Big dogs need to be walked, not just locked into a tiny yard where they can't even get a tenth of the exercise they need. And they're still dogs, they still need all the attention that dogs need.

We have an elderly puppy (he's about 17 now and has Alzheimer's) and we're firmly in "old dog, new trick" territory. He used to know not to get up on the bed and now he's just too stubborn and senile to listen. We worry about his bones, frankly. But he ninjas us in the middle of the night and we just lift him down whenever possible.

We have two cats, both of whom think the bed is theirs.

I'd prefer they didn't sleep on the bed, but the dog's past training and has even forgotten house training and the cats...well, they know I have to sleep sometime.

Could you get doggie steps for the dog, or would that mean acknowledging that he's allowed on the bed? We used doggie steps for two of our cats when they were older and I think they helped tremendously.

We haven't tried them. I'd be fine giving him permission, that's not an issue any more, he's entirely disconnected from any training we might try to institute. I've thought about it and we might if they were soft and had a guard rail, because I think he'd just trip on them and have a more difficult landing all told. Everything I've searched for or seen in the stores just looks like further sharp edges and puppy death trap that's more likely to propel him into something more dangerous in the room like the bookcase. I think I would if we had more space, but there's only a little bit of walking room on either side of the bed. It's a huge king waterbed and the room isn't really big enough.

Rails like those in hospitals have been the only other thing we've even jokingly considered to be a real solution. But knowing him, he'd keep trying and get stuck between the rails somehow.

Fortunately it's carpeted and he has a soft landing spot. He has ataxia (weak legs) from the medication he's on and cataracts. He doesn't see or navigate terribly well and my thinking is he'd just avoid stairs because they're new and he hates new.

He doesn't even like me any more, on his bad days he forgets who I am and he barks at me. Changes to his environment just make him more suspicious and he persists in whatever activity he tries. We're just trying to keep him comfortable and happy, and bed privileges make him happy. I just try to be there to help him up or down now as required. There still are occasionally thuds in the middle of the night, though.

He has taken to scratching on any closed door just because he's decided now he doesn't like closed doors. Yesterday I tried to pull a big chair in front of the door to avoid him waking up my husband, who was sleeping behind the closed door. He scratched on the chair. So he's not really amenable to changes in what he deems is routine.

Pets in Bed

Well the old me was a pet and had to sleep on the floor by Mistress's bed, nothing on the lower part of my body in case she needs it, or just watch. (Yea it was that or diaper because I get up in the middle of the night.)

Ahem, right now, we have 4 cats and a dog. If given half a chance two of them would love to sleep with us. A third is so overweight he can't make the jump, but will sit with the wife on the couch. Our dog is too hyperactive to sleep or even sit with us.

Ever have a dream of a tiger in bed with you. Yea, waking up to a cat sleeping next to your face, scared the hell out of me.
