Dystopian matchmaker story?

There was a story a while back where an alien invading force of some kind took over the world and started pairing random men and women together to find sexually compatible couples. Everyone was captive, and the story follows a guy who was held in a room and different women were put in the room with him one at a time. When they were more compatible they got more time together, and when they were less compatible the partners were switched out faster. The alien did not speak, it communicated via generic sound I think? Or maybe it inflicted pain? I can't remember. The protagonist eventually matched well with one woman and they spent more time together, but then they were separated. Eventually the alien force was defeated, and then he tried to seek out the woman who he was most compatible with.
