He was watching me the whole time I was taking his picture. No one else was around and it was just him and me. It was really cool, but also a bit sad; when you look at them like that you can see they are thinking and studying and it's depressing to know their normal habitat is millions of acres and here they are, forced to live in a paddock the size of a small parking lot. I know the world needs zoos to facilitate the knowledge of the natural world, but if I weren't an atheist I'd believe we are all going to hell for our treatment of animals.

I know what you mean; elephants have these phenomenally complex social structures, and it's been proven that they can retain knowledge of vast territories. So is it right to confine them? I often wonder. I think zoos do amazing work -- research, educating the public about conservation -- and I really enjoy them sometimes, but at other times I have a few qualms.

You look great as usual, but viewing these online, the right edge just kind of fades out and detracts from the graphic impact. Might look good printed out and matted and framed, though. I like the idea of working with the wall. Maybe in color?

I agree the framing makes a difference. Viewing these on a darker background makes the white space on the right less objectionable, but the color versions just aren't right for the effect I was going for.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I've ordered some new equipment for my home studio and I'm looking forward to trying it out this weekend. I'm really excited about a new 60" softbox/umbrella and some new lighting gels for color effects. I also bought a light boom so I can (hopefully) suspend a strobe directly overhead for some interesting shadow effects. I will, of course, share anything I get right here, so stay tuned!
