Ekserb's picture thread

A few hours ago I returned home from a vacation in central Florida and I've already processed two sets of new photos taken while I was there. Tonight is the first set.

These are in color (somewhat rare for my thread), but I wanted to try to portray the heat and humidity of the surroundings. They are also a lot less explicit than most of what I have shared before — I hope your imagination can fill in the gaps. :)

Thanks, Sparkle!

I read on your thread that you're going to stop posting. I did the same thing a while back, but started posting again after a time away from Lit. Now I post for myself and couldn't care less if anyone ever responded to this thread or not. Maybe one day you'll do the same. :)

I forgot to post these yesterday!

These were taken in a tree farm in central Florida. The pine needles were moist and cool and it was kind of neat to roll around on them.

Ekserb,
Another beautiful set of pictures!! Lovely outdoors scenery... Makes me want to join you with a blanket and a picnic basket....:cattail:

New stuff from the bedroom

Here's a new set using a very narrow depth of field. I'll post field notes after the pictures for those who are interested....

For these I wanted to give the impression of a super bright sunrise with the curtains over exposed and a bright glow across the bed. I was also experimenting with one of my best, yet least-used lenses: a Minolta 85mm f1.4G. I opened the lens to the biggest aperture to narrow the depth of field to a few inches, then pre-focused on a stand-in (a dark-colored belt) on the bed. Once the camera's intervalometer was rolling (it snaps an unattended frame every thirty seconds), I climbed into bed and tried to look interesting. ;) I also wanted these to look like candid, informal snapshots, so I purposefully composed a very tight frame to cut off parts of my body (something I would normally never do). None of these are cropped in post; this is how they came from the camera.

The post-processing was in Apple's Aperture software, converting first to black & white monochrome, then adding a bit of warming overlay for mood. Exported through the Border FX plug-in. In other words, my usual workflow.

Hi Phil

I regret not getting to your thread more often. Our 'hobby' keeps both of us busy, but I have much more to do once the pics are taken however.

Great photos. In particular the one's in the pine forest(?) are sensational. I'm always amazed, because you take your own pics!

The lens I used in the river was a Canon 50mm prime L series. Aperture Priority mode set to around 1.2 - 1.4 for most of the shots. I have more from that shoot to post: they seem to be well received.

I don't use filters............just Aperture. Colour convert to monochrome, then 'blue' filter with a touch red added back in.

Cheers
Richard

I thought it looked like you were using the blue or green filter in the monochrome conversion. Vanessa's skin tone is nicely darkened by the filter effect. I use a yellow filter effect when converting anything with skin tones - I find it results in very natural-looking tones throughout the images. When I'm shooting straight landscapes I will often use a red filter effect to get the Ansel Adams-esque skies. It helps if you start with a polarizer to get the blue skies very deep and dark in the original capture.

Ah, the Canon L glass. My three Minolta G-series lenses are also of very high quality, though the new Sony-branded Carl Zeiss models are some of the best that can be bought by any manufacturer. One day I will be able to afford the CZ 28-70 f2.8 and maybe even the 135 f1.8 prime (a beast!). I can feel my wallet getting lighter already.

I would like to upgrade my camera to a Sony a900, but mine was the last alpha-mount camera body to include an intervalometer, so using a newer camera would preclude shooting the self portraits that I post here. I would have to use a remote and self timer to get the images I can get now with no interaction beyond the initial setup. Why would Sony drop a valuable feature like that? Argh. Maybe I should upgrade and then dedicate the older camera to self nudes. :)

i know you're not a fan of mine. regardless i like this one because the line of your shirt coming off your body suggests stark contrast with the movement of the tall grass

(if you were here in exile, you'd have to be properly checked for deer ticks after romping in grass like that!)

i also enjoyed this one

because you seem to be moving in harmony with the grass, yet with fantastic contrast thanks to your salt and pepper hair.

peace.

I'm not a fan of yours? Is that some kind of requirement to post on someone's thread? How come I've never heard of this? :)

Either way I thank you for the compliments.

Yes, I was properly checked for ticks. Don't want to get lyme disease!

The latest series has a soft, serene quality that I really like. Usually your style is a bit "harder" for want of a better term. Thanks for the technical details. It helps newbies like me learn more.

Incidentally, the series also makes me want to get into bed with you.

Just a few quick shots from the back yard. I just got back from the beach and wanted to cool off with some hose water.

Great pics Phil. Did you swim in the jeans?:)

The colour is different to your usual presentation, very natural. The monochromes in your previous post are excellent. I need to remind myself you take these on your own. I for one would like to see some pics of you and Monique ;)

We have been flat out like lizards drinking (yes, it's winter here but all that means is it's a bit cooler than summer!) and not attending to threads as much as we'd like.

All the best

Richard

Just adding my admiration to the lot... What a wonderful eye for texture & detail you possess! It's nice to see that sort of talent utilized here... Kudos, Sir.

Hmm. At the moment, geography is against us, but maybe someday....

"... flat out like lizards drinking." I don't think I've ever heard that before, but I like it. :) Your winters sound like ours in Miami. Cool for a few weeks then back to summer.

Didn't swim in the jeans. I wish I had a pool here, but all I did for these was spray myself with the garden hose.

As Mo said, geography is against us, but I have no doubt that one day I will secure some pictures of the two of us, preferably during coitus.

Thanks for stopping by, Richard!
