Rose

Rose caught his hand and smiled gently.

"No problem...Have you ever travelled to the city a few days from here? You look familar..." she asked, reaching hesitantly to touch his face as though that would help.

Giamond:

"Yes Rose... I have... I am your father... Is... Is your mother well?" He said, his voice shaking as he tried to set up.

Rose felt like a fist had slamned into her chest.

"You...you're my father?" her voice sounded a bit shocked.

"M..my mother, I don't know...I've been on my own since I can remember..."

Giamond:

"Of course you wouldn't know her... I am sorry... but know this... I have watched you from time to time..." As he sat up he groaned from the pain. His hand tightened in hers.
"The wound is deep?" He asked, his head resting back against the wooden head board of his bed.

Rose

"Looked in on....?" I murmur, feeling a pain in my heart. I push it back and check the wound.

"Yeah...Gimmie a sec..." I close my eyes and picture the wound closing. I smile when I open my eyes, finding it had.

Giamond:

With his free hand he touched the tender skin where the open wound had been. With a smile he looked up into Rose's eyes, his own, glassy with hidden tears. "Thank you Rose, you are truly your mothers child..."

"I..I am?" Rose asks softly.

"Can I ask...Why didn't you want me...?"

Giamond:

"It wasn't a question of wanting you..." He said, touching her cheek in response. "If I had brought you here I would have been exiled..." He frowned as he let his hand fall to his side. "And your mother... She was known, is known as a great hero of these lands... She was persuaded to leave you in the hands of a foster family by those that she served... And to continue keeping the realm safe for all."

"I'm sorry...I didn't want to get you punished...I...I just..." she stopped fealing a tear trickle down her cheek, she tried to rein in her emotions.

"I never remember a foster family...I lived on the streets as long as I can remember...A theif, Thorn took me in for a while...but..he died only a few years after..." she stopped feeling a pain in her heart.

Giamond:

"Your foster parents died mysteriously when you were four... Even before they died I would come see you a couple times a year... Thildemar, the one you came to the trolls camp with followed me one time. Finding out my secret. He was going to go to the elders, it was his duty after all. But I pleaded with him to keep my secret with me. He agreed. And when your foster parents died, for the sake of the promise he had made to me he took you in, he was Thorn..." Stoping for just a moment Giamond saw the growing look of confusion on her face. "He was enchanted with an illusion to keep his identity hidden, and his death was stagged, when the time was right, and you could survive on your own."

Rose

"Thildemar? But he doesn't even like me..." she said softly.

"W..will you get into much trouble because of this...?"

Giamond:

"He probably didn't rcognize you... You were only fourteen the last time he saw you." Giamond gave Rose a smile. "If it doesn't come out that I am your father than there will be no trouble..." Seeing Rose's eyes lowering at that he added. "Once they know, they will most likely put me to exile..."

Rose:

"Then I'll not say anything...But...Will they let it rest? I went before the elders..."

Giamond:

"Did they extend an offer of hospitality to you?" He asked, knowing the answer. She would not be here still if they had not. "If they have then they know you are part of our blood and will not rest until I am found out..." He lowered his eyes.

Rose

"I'm sorry...I'll leave then, as soon as I can..." she sighed.

"I'm sorry to be such an inconveniance..."she stood and pulled away.

"Rose, you are not an inconvience, you are my daughter..." He said, reaching out to her. "And this is the home that you deserve to have, you always have... And in my cowardice I denied it to you..." He looked away, a tear falling along his cheek. "Perhaps it has come time that I paid for my crime against you, Rose... My heart has ached for it, for you... If I go then maybe I can put that pain away."

Rose:

Rose shook her head stepping further back.

"No...I won't let you do that...You have friends and family here. I'm used to being alone. It doesn't bother me." She lied.

"I'm sorry...If it hadn't been for that damned wizard..."

Giamond:

"Rose... They won't let you go... Not now... Not until this matter is settled..." He said, once again looking up at her. "If you go they will come after you."

Rose

"If they can catch me...I won't be that easy to track down. I can't just stand by and let them find out and ruin your life..." she said rubbing her eyes. Why couldn't anything in her life be easy? Instead of this being a happy momement it was a tragedy.

"There's gotta be something I can do..." Rose snapped feeling tears trickle down her face she wiped them away and turned to run out of the hut, she passed the healer coming in, who looked at her strangely.

She wasn't sure where she was going till she'd reached the elder's tree.

Elders:

Rose stood at the entrence to the elders tree for only a moment when she heard a gentle voice calling to her from within. "Come in Rose of southwood. We bid you welcome and trust you are happy with your new home?"

Giamond:

He had called after rose, for her to come back but she hadn't listen, or hadn't heard him. He let the healer help him but once he had been seen to he demanded of the healer that he be taken to the elders hut. The healer argued with him for a moment that he must stay in bed, but Giamond would not relent. So fifteen minutes after Rose had run out the healer lifted Giamond to his feet and the two of them started to walk slowly after Rose.

Rose

Rose hesitantly stepped in.

"I wish that were true...Thank you for the home, but...I think I'll need to leave...." she said softly looking down, feeling her heart clinch.

Elders:

"You were told that your elven parent is to be exiled I see." The speaking elder stood and opened her eyes. Walking to Rose the elder who was female added. "You were miss informed I fear... your parent will be given fair trial in this matter."

"That he shall, I will see to it, personally." Spoke a tall human female in a thick blue robe who had just suddenly... Appeared. She carried a long wooden staff in hand, tapping its end against the ground to emphasize her statement.

"Greetings Lady Atheria, and welcome. But... What is your stake in this matter?" A second elder asked.

"Rose is my daughter, her father is..."

Just then, as if on cue Giamond and the healer arived. He gave Rose a sharp look when he saw her but when he saw Atheria his expression changed to one of surprise.

"Giamond." Atheria finished.

"What constitutes a fair trial exactually...?" Rose's voice was soft and weary. It seemed her parents were alive and well and were now at least concerned with her. But...were they really? Life as a whole seemed out to get her, as usual.

"What exactlly will he be punished for?"
