Tali clutched her cloak about her neck, trying to protect herself from the chill night air. The smell of the sea filled her nose, brought in from the brisk breeze. She could hear the constant roar of the ocean over the wind, crashing violently over the cliffs to the north, where her feet were taking her. Though, after one heard something for so long, you hardly noticed it. In all her eighteen years, she had never left the quiet seaside town of Fane's Cliffs. Tonight, she was finally giving her curiosity a chance to be satisfied. I must have some adventure before I wither away in this village! If father had his way, I would be locked in my room for all eternity! She thought this with the vehemence that only the young posses.

Vibrant emerald eyes looked with determination northward, midnight hair streaming in the wind, as she thought of what the grizzled old sailor had said only hours before now. She had been working the tables in her fathers Inn, as she had done countless nights before. The Inn was popular with the sailors, conveniently built almost right on top of the docks. He had seemed nervous, and being the curious girl that Tali was, she had asked him why.

"Because it be a full moon, lass. Don't ya be tellin' me ya never heard the stories?"

She smiled and set his ale before him. "Of course I've heard them! I live here!" It was popular with housewives all over town, to scare children, mostly. The divine being that the town took it's name from, Fane, was said to reside in the cliffs. But, being of the sinister persuasion, he needed the soul of an innocent to sustain himself. Only on a full moon would he interact with the world. It was then that he was most powerful and most vulnerable. It was all very silly, really.

"It's all nonsense. You don't really believe them, do you?"

He scratched a scraggly beard. "If'n ya won't believe me, then why don't ya go to them cliffs to the north? There be ruins of Fane's temple. If'n ya don't feel a chill travelin' up yer spine, then I'll eat my boots."

She had laughed merrily. "Very well, stranger. I would love to see that."

But now, it didn't seem so humorous. Tali shivered as she approached the edge of the cliff. A steep stairwell had been cut into the cliffside, presumably by the same ancients that had built the temple. It was pockmarked and broken in some places, weathered by time and the ocean. Wispy clouds slithered over the shining lunar disk. Swallowing nervously, she decided it would be best to back her way down. It was awfully steep...

It took her a full half an hour to reach the temple, the roar of the sea now deafening in her ears. The temple was cut directly from the stone of the cliffs. A flat half-circle surrounded her, about fifty paces in diameter. It was punctuated periodically by large stone pillars, a few of them toppled. Against the cliffs was carved a huge statue. Fane himself, dressed as a warrior, a great-sword in his hands. He towered above her, at least a hundred feet high. At his feet, carved into the stone, was a beautiful lotus pattern, perfectly symmetrical in its geometric design. Around the circle were mysterious runes of a language no one she knew could decipher.

Well, it was rather creepy, but Tali would be damned if she didn't see that old fogey eat his boots! Smiling hesitantly at the thought, she took another step towards the Lotus pattern. She probably wouldn't hold him to it, but it would be so very much fun to be right! She shuddered as the violent seas pounded the rocks, showering her with salty spray. As the young barmaid crossed into the circle, something terrible happened.

Her eyes widened as the runes began to glow. Suddenly, a blue light shot skyward from them, towering to the heavens. She tried to run, but in vain, as the blue light acted as a barrier; a circular cage. She screamed and pounded the strange wall with her fists to no avail, terror overwhelming her. "Let me go! Let me out!" She screamed to no one.

And then, a strange man parted the light, smiling triumphantly, a great-sword strapped to his back. He glowed with the same unearthly blue light. "Finally, I have you, girl. You belong to me now."

She backed away until she bumped into the opposite wall, the man advancing and wrapping a strong hand about her throat, unsympathetic to the tears streaming down her smooth cheeks. "No... let me go!"

He pulled from a pouch a beautiful collar, adorned with sparkling diamonds, and without a word, clamped it about her neck. Tali slumped as he released her, crying in silent fear of him. The man seemed to sigh with relief, the blue glow growing brighter. With a thought, he banished her to slumber in his chambers within his cliffs. She did not need to be conscious for his purposes. He could not take her, as her very virginity was the thing sustaining his power. Every year, during the first springtime full moon, he would emerge from his dwelling. And every year on that day, the girl would emerge as well, hiding from him even as he ignored her. A millennium passed, and but for that one particular day, Tali slept a timeless sleep. The village gave up searching for her, and the occasional historian recorded the legend that had grown from her story. "Fane and the Maiden of the Full Moon," They called the story. That was the last anyone had ever heard from Tali Silversea. Surely, thought the townsfolk, it was just a story to scare children...

OOC: I was thinking that, if you killed Fane, that is how you would acquire Tali. As he is vulnerable on the first full moon of spring. His capabilities are up to you, as are any additional benefits you receive from slaying him. :) Your posts do not have to be this long, although they can be if you wish. :) Looking forward to writing with you! :rose:
