Chris looked at his daughter's report card and sighed. It wasn't like the D's and F's were unexpected, his daughter had brought home grades like that for the past couple years. Not for lack of intelligence, but from lack of trying. She argued with teachers, didn't do assignments 'because they are stupid', and that was when she went to school at all. Since she had turned 18, she had used her new 'adulthood' to sign herself out for just about any reason she could think of.
He looked over at his wife, Vicki, and shook his head. "I was hoping that she would get her act together. But despite hoping for the best, I planned for the worst. She's been accepted to the Modern Women's Education Institute. We just need to send them the acknowledgement." Vicki nodded her head. "It's for the best. our daughter is a little hellion who just does what she does to be the exact opposite of the woman either of us wanted her to be."
Chris smiled and kissed his wife. "You're right, but I'm sure she'll thank us before too long. At the MWEI, she'll learn that what we wanted for her was for the best in the end." He clicked send on an email confirming his daughter's enrollment.
That night at dinner, the three of them sat around the dining room table. They were quite well off, and lived in a very large house in Miami Florida. He looked over at the young woman that joined them for dinner, one of the few times of day that they saw her. They had always stressed eating together as a family and that was the one thing that they weren't going to relent on. "So you know what's coming, right? More school. But this time, it's not going to be a typical summer school. We all know you're not going to get into a college, your grades are absolute shit." Vicki's eyes widened as he said that. "I'm sorry sweety," he said to her. "She needs to hear this. Your grades are terrible, and there's no changing it now. So instead of a summer school, your mother and I have decided to send you to the Modern Women's Education Institute."
He smiled as she gave him a confused look. "It's not a large school, I'm not surprised you haven't heard of it. It took me awhile to find it." That was a lie, he had known about the school and their services for years. In fact, he was a major donor. "Think of it like a finishing school. When you finish there, you'll have marketable skills that won't leave you destitute. And when you're done, you're on your own if you want to be. I know you've been anxious to get away from us for years, after all."
