Hi folks; this is probably only of any interest to the parents among you.

As a step towards gaining some self confidence, I’m working on getting fitter – work and family time permitting. Walking, exercises, etc etc.
Many, many years ago I used to fancy myself as a bit of an amateur bodybuilder, so I’m no stranger to the gym – I’m also no stranger to the time and money involved, so that route is closed for now.

Now, I spend a lot of time with my daughter, and one thing my wife mentioned ages ago that she wanted to do was get one of those ‘parent and toddler’ yoga DVD’s, and exercise with her.

So, in a nutshell – has anyone tried this? Can they recommend a DVD?

Daughter is 3 btw, so it has to be geared towards exercising with a child. I realise it’d be quite ‘basic’, but if I like it I can do ‘adult’ stuff when I get my own time.

Well, I've never tried to do Yoga with a 3 year old, I have with older kids, none of which really took to it. Kids tend to be over hyper and energetic, hard to stay in one place and relax. You can explain the benefits all you want and they just don't seem to care. But hey, its worth a try and I've never done one of the family DVD's so I can't comment how they may react to it. Good luck.

My daughter's still at that stage where she's trying to copy everything mummy and daddy do - she saw me doing pushups not so long back, and she's started trying to do them (no success, and I haven't shown her how - figure she's still a bit young for that :) ).
The DVD's I'm refering to are specifically designed for parents and toddlers - Mothercare in the UK for example stocks at least 2 of them. I imagine there's a lot of play involved, to make it interesting for the kid.

For example -
