Al'ika opened the scrolls. "Dammit, Orcish," she said. She handed it to Keth. "Here, honey, read it."

"Looks like orders from town," he said. "Capture raiders, bring back to face justice," he scoffed a little at that. "Look, picture of Isep."

Al'ika looked at the picture. "That's unfair to her," she noted. She looked at the other three. "She didn't respond to my mental link, but I can try again. However, I don't think we can stay here tonight."

Flish thought a minute. "What do you think would make a good alternative?" he asked, not knowing the area.

Al'ika looked at Jep. "Where are some safe places?" she asked him.

 

[bindingeagle]

"I guess we keep going until we find another cave," he said.

 

[celestialdragon]

"Where's the closest one?" She asked, shouldering her pack again.

 

[bindingeagle]

"Up ahead about two miles," he said. Suddenly, a rush of wind came into the cave mouth and the rain began to pour down.

Al'ika shook her head and peered out. "Do we venture out?" she asked. "I really don't want to stay here. . . "

"No choice," grunted Keth, drawing his blade and leading the way. When they made the next camp, they were all thoroughly soaked. Issak set up his blanket over the cave entrance to block their light from escaping and keep the heat from their fire in.

Al'ika shivered from the cold and she dried herself off the best she could.

"Well, I think we've all seen each other naked at some point, so let's change into dry clothes," said Issak, stripping and hanging up his soaked ones.

Al'ika ducked behind a rock to change, suddenly feeling very self conscious.

Soon everyone was dry and eating hot meals. Jep had managed to go back and find a small store of mead.

Al'ika looked around. "First watch is Jep," she said softly. Something about being in a cave again was wrecking havoc with her senses. She stood up and went toward the back of the cave, breathing deeply, playing with a little fireball in her hands.

Issak saw her acting nervously and quietly approached her. "What's wrong? "he asked.

Al'ika looked up at him, tossing the fireball back and forth in her hands. "I'm not sure," she said softly. "It's just something about caves right now. . . it's making me. . . I don't know. . . confused? Scared? Angry? All of the above and then some?" She shrugged. "It'll pass."

"Okay," he said, hugging her. "You need anything, just get one of us."

Al'ika hugged him back. "I know, Issak," she said softly. "I know."

Everyone but Jep bedded down, and soon the cave was filled with light snoring.

Al'ika remained awake, unable to sleep. She tossed and turned and finally decided to get up and she walked over to Jep. "Hey," she said.

Jep turned around quickly. "I now, I'm on edge, too," he said.Out of the darkness came a thump and a moaning sound.

Al'ika jumped up, her sword drawn. She went into a defensive crouch, her eyes searching.

No more movement was heard, and Jep closed in on the noise. Finally, he whispered, "Come here, I need help."
