About halfway through Flish's shift, a scuffle came from outside. Flish dragged one of the town guards in unconscious. "Any ideas as to how he made it out this far?" he asked.

Al'ika woke up and came out and inspected their minds a bit. "Mild quickness spell. These two are scouts," she said.

Flish quickly ran them through. "They won't be reporting back any time soon," he said, cleaning his blade.

Al'ika nodded. "Do what you must, but let me know." She gently lit them on fire so they wouldn't be discovered.

"Can you see any other spells on them?" asked Issak.

 

[celestialdragon]

Al'ika shook her head. "I searched for all spells," she said. "Just a swiftness spell. But we may have to move, as a precaution."

"OK, let's make the old cave," Issak said, waking everyone up. Within the half hour they were ready to move.

Al'ika led the group to the old cave, her ears and eyes alert.

Issak set up the blind and Keth started the fire.Everyone was on edge. Norro sat, worrying. "How are we going to free the town now?"

Al'ika smiled. "They'll be safe, they're smart," she said. "We freed the prisoners and they took off. Most of the guards had been killed- sorry, necessary."

"That's fine, all my guards were in the cages," he said.

Al'ika smiled. "We'll be fine." She stood up a little bit. "Who hasn't had a turn guarding?"

Keth got up and headed out. Flish laid down close to the fire to take the chill off as he slept.

Al'ika tried to fall asleep, but tossed and turned and finally got up and sat with Keth.

Keth smiled as she joined him. "Nice night," he said.

"Yes it is. Cold, though," Al'ika said. She looked up at him and smiled.

"They not catch us now," he said.

 

[celestialdragon]

"No they won't," she agreed, leaning her head on his shoulder.

A loud roar came from off in the distance. It was a good ways off but the monstrous noise carried.

Al'ika held her hands over her ears, the noise affecting her deeply. "What was that?" she asked.

 

[bindingeagle]

"Not sure," keth said. "Inside look like good idea though."

 

[celestialdragon]

"Agreed," Al'ika said, standing up and backing into the cave.

 

[bindingeagle]

Norro looked up, shaking. "What in the heavens was that?" he asked.

 

[celestialdragon]

"We don't know," Al'ika confessed. She went over to Issak. "What WAS that? And did it affect you badly?"

"I've never heard it before in my life," he said. "Lots of creatures live in these mountains, though."
