Desiree sat there stunned. Her mouth went dry and her mind went blank. Her heart started beating fast in her chest and she opened her mouth several times before she could finally make any sounds come out.
"My god, Marcus," She said, not able to take her eyes off of him. "If you arent the one for surprises. Never in a million years did I think..." She realized she was rambling on and shut her mouth again.
"Marcus," She said when she had finally got her thoughts together,"In this relationship you have always been the one to say how you feel. I have not ever told you exactly how I feel. Well, its about time I did."
"Marcus Thompson, I love you. I love you more than I have ever loved anyone else in my life and I cant imagine ever feeling this way about anyone else. I dont know what I would do without you even if you do drive me nuts most of the time."
"And to think of spending my life with you. I was willing to go on pretending for the world if it ment I got just a few hours with you. I wanted to be with you so bad that I would have settled for anything. Now you offer me the chance to be with you for as long as you dont get yourself killed." She smiled and let out a small laugh and then looked away.
"I want to say yes, Marcus, God, I want so badly to say yes and to hell with the consequences. But have you thought over what will happen if we get married. There is no way that we can stay on the force if we do. One of us would have to leave and I would be more than willing to trade my career for the chance to be your wife but I dont know if I could see you off to work each day knowing that you may not come back to me. At least as your partner, I can be there to make sure you see another day."
"I dont ever want to get a call about you like I did that night again. I cant stand to lose you, Marcus, I wont."
