Fast Fingers...

Desiree was looking through her evening bag and transferring the things from there to her hand bag and totally ignoring his tirade.

"Comb, lipstick, mascara...ah hah!," She brought her keys out with a shout of triumph and then turned to him and caught his eyes with hers.

"I cant afford to lose you," She said,"Everything I said in there is true and both of you know it. Your both just to stubborn to admit it."

"Besides," She added,"With a week to work there is not telling what The Devil could plan and pull off. And after last night I dont plan on giving her the chance to try."

Dropping the keys in her handbag and exiting the elevator, she tossed the evening bag in the trash can by the station entrance and stepped out into the sunlight.

Looking up at Marcus, she says,"So where to now, Partner?"

"To the cafe, I need to get some real coffee into me as the stuff that they gave me in the hospital tasted like shit to put it mildly."
They both went down in the elevator to the carpark and just as Desiree was about to head away to her car Marcus said, "Where are you going beautiful, you are not going to leave my sight for the next week, in fact you might get sick of seeing my ugly face. So, we are taking my car and I don't want any arguements from you. Okay partner."
Desiree didn't answer, she threw him an exasperated look before getting into the passenger side of his car. He started the engine and sat back, listening to it purr.

OOC

OOC: Crikey. You two DO move at a million posts an hour. :) At the rate that this is going, Red and I will probably be a few DAYS behind you two before we reach page ten. Should Red and I just skip the night or something??? Then at least we'll catch up a bit. Just a thought. (By the way, nice little romance going there guys. ;) )

OOC: Thank you and sorry about that. We just happen to post about the same time and so it goes fast. I dont think he will be posting til later tonight. Take it any way you want it...if you want to do the rest of the evening in flashback or in memory. Or they can be celebrating thier victory and talking about how they put one over on the cops. Or they can be watching the news and feeling smug. Just my two cents.

Desiree sat in the passanger side and threw Marcus a smirk. "Your still arrogant, you know," She said in a soft voice.

Turning in her seat to face Marcus, she said,"I made a few phone calls last night after I left you at the hospital. I wanted to check up on our friend Earl. Thought maybe I could connect him with The Devil. It seemed odd that she would break her usual pattern and bring someone else in, especially to clobber a cop. Her method is trickery-not violence."

Marcus' intrest was caught and he looked at her saying,"And?"

"And it seems he truly is the son of a multi millionar. The very spoiled son who happens to hate cops. Has been arrested numerous times for aggression against cops in every situation you can imagine. Seems Earl goes out of his way to create a situation to confront police officers.

Marcus sat back and looked at her with a raised eyebrow,"So, in other words-a dead end."

Desiree nodded miserably,"Yeah, seems like he was working on his own and beat the hell out of you just because you are a cop. And it doesnt help that Daddy is there to extract him from all of this..."

Before she could continue Marcus held up a hand,"Dont tell me. I know this scene all to well. The wealthy father gets his band of high priced lawyers and the 'kid' is out of jail before the ink dries on the paperwork."

Desiree nodded again. "Story is-you attacked him first. And, I hate to say it, Marcus, but your past record is not going to prove your innocence. I gave my statement about what I saw but...."

She didnt finish, she didnt have to. Marcus sighed, put the car in gear and they headed for his favorite cafe and some decent coffee.

OOC: Time for a little suspense and drama!

Mac's mood deteriorated as the morning wore on. Three customers had already grabbed her ass, a little kid had run in front of her and she had spilled everything she was carrying, and Razor had really pissed her off last night.

Everytime she thought about what he had done, the burning rage she had felt only got worse. She felt betrayed, and she had trusted him. For the first time in her life she had trusted someone, and he had ripped that little thread to shreds.

"How did you get the cops off our case?" the words echoed in her head.

"I clued someone in, and he took care of it."

She had been puzzled, "What does that mean?"

"Ever heard of Earl Halloway?" Mac had just shook her head. "Well, he happens to not like cops, especially ones on his terf, so I let him know about them, who they were. I guess he beat the hell out of one and then, the stupid little pansy was taken down by a girl. Go figure."

Mac, needless to say, had been floored. Someone had gotten hurt on one of her heists. That had never been her intention, and she didn't like it. She had always promised herself that no one would get hurt, jewels were not worth someones life. She had learned that the hard way.

"How could you?" her voice was a whisper, but it turned to an angry shout, and the tears she had been holding back streamed down her cheeks, "HOW COULD YOU?! No was supposed to get hurt! NO ONE! Not ever. Jewels are not worth a human life! Do you understand me?" She had turned away from him, "Take me home."

And he had. She hadn't heard from him yet, but she would. She still had his precious diamonds in her evening bag. Mac made a decision then. She was going to appologize to the two detectives. She was going to drop them a letter saying that she was sorry, that she had been indirectly responsible for their injuries. It very well could be her down fall, it would give them something to look for, but it was something she had to do.

Marcus drove his car through the streets, heading towards his favorite cafe and whistling a tune. He didn't care how the traffic was flowing or that he had been suspended, he was in too good of spirits to care.

As soon as he reached the cafe he parked his car into his spot, it didn't have his name in it but they all knew what happened if you parked there. He turned off his engine then looked at Desiree and smiled at her before saying, "Don't move beautiful."
Before Desiree could say anything he had unstrapped himself and was outside the door and standing next to the passenger side, holding the door open. She looked up at him with a smile when he said, "After you beautiful."

After Desiree got out of his car he followed her into the cafe where they both took his usual table. As soon as they sat down at the table a waitress was standing there. Marcus looked at her and was surprised to see that it was the one that called herself Mac who looked at him with wide eyes.
"What will it be detective?" she asked
"I will have the same as my partner is having," Marcus said before he smiled at Desiree, receiving a kick in the shin as an answer.

Desiree hoped that the waitress would think the dopey grin was because of her. Marcus was not making this easy.

Turning towards the waitres I said,"I will have waffles, sausage links, eggs, juice and coffee." Looking over at Marcus and the look on his face she said,"What? I havent eaten yet. I was busy picking up my partner from the hospital and then getting chewed out by my boss. It makes a girl hungery."

When the waitress left with their order, Desiree smiled mischievously at Marcus.
"You know, maybe we should have taken my car. If you have a headache from your concussions I have a whole big bottle of asprin in my glove compartment. I could give you some."

Then in a more serious tone,"So what are you going to do on a weeks suspension? What happens if The Devil strikes again? I..I dont know if I can go after her by myself."

Another thought hit her and she groaned,"Oh, no, what if Captain Harrison pairs me up with someone else for the week? Damn, I wish I could have pulled you out of this one. Sorry to have let you down."

"For the week, not a thing, I won't care if The Devil strikes again. Look what it has done to me and I think that I need a break- to do things that I want to do. I know what you are going to say, I am an egotistical, selfish, arrogant son of a bitch but that just makes me who I am and you love me for who I am, at least that is what I am hoping you love me for. And if Captain Harrison partners you with anyone else just remember that it will be for a week."

He sat back and looked at the ceiling, instantly regretting it as the room began spinning. He slowly put his head back down and said, "I hate concussions."

Just then Mac came back with the food and coffee which Marcus grabbed quickly and began to drink quickly as though he hadn't had any in years.

"I love you in spite of that," Desiree said with a smirk before her face was masked in concern.

"Maybe it is best that you take it easy and get some rest. But I dont see you sitting back and staying in bed for some reason. Dont know why..."

Digging into the food the minute it got there, Desiree did not say anything for awhile. As her hunger was sated though she sat back and begin thinking.

"Maybe I will request desk duty for the week. Start doing some research, some digging, keep my eyes out for anything that might point to her. There has got to be something that we have missed."

She gave him a tender look and said,"Its not going to be the same at the station without you. I wont have my daily dose of arrogance. I dont know how I will survive."

"You'll survive. But I doubt that I can stand a week without your witty comebacks- it is going to be pure hell. But there is one thing that you are forgetting, you will not be at work all the time and I will still be on suspension so you could visit me when you finish and get your daily dose then, you never know, I could change and become a charming son of a bitch."

Marcus then picked up his fork and looked at the food on his plate then put down the fork and pushed the plate away. I knew that I would fall into a trap somehow today he thought.

Desiree laughed. "Sometimes I tend to forget that I have a personal life. Seems like I should put a revolving door in sometimes or live at the station."

"That will be the day," She said at his comment,"Still, I wouldnt have it any other way."

She trailed off as he pushed his plate away. Putting down her fork, she gave him a hard look.
"Ok, Marcus, whats wrong? Dont start keeping things from me again-we may not survive next time."

"Why is it everytime I push away my food every woman I am with at the time thinks that something is wrong with me. I am fine, just not hungry."

Desiree looked at him, a soft look on her face and he said, "It is nothing, I promise you."

"Not good enough," Desiree said, putting all the concern she could into her voice,"Listen, Marcus, I know you are going to hate it but I am going to be worrying about you-a lot. I also intend to nurse you back to health on my off hours no matter how much you kick and scream. So you might as well give in now and not try to fight it."

"Now," She said becoming all business like,"I am going to ask you one more time and I better get a staight answer this time. What is wrong?"

Marcus knew that he was not going to win this, Desiree knew him too well, "Oh, for christs sake. I will tell you, I am just worried that you will get injured on the job and I won't find out about it. How would you feel if you were in the same position?"

He then looked over and saw Mac who looked totally exhausted and thought that she could use a hand. He then looked at Desiree and saw a look that could have killed him on the spot and knew that he was in trouble again.

Desiree was hurt at first by his tone and she felt a pang of the jealousy she had felt last night. Her gaze fell from his and she picked up her fork again and started into her food. Actually, all she did was push it around on her plate. She sighed and shook her head.

"I'm sorry, Marcus," She said without looking up,"I am pushing this thing between us I know. Maybe its because I am worrying about you as much as you are worrying about me."

"I am going to have a hard time concentrating at work because I will be thinking about you the whole time and wondering how you are doing."

"But remember, you said that I was a good cop yourself. If you believe that then you will know that I will be okay. I promise not to do anything too stupid and get myself killed."

Marcus took Desiree's hand into his, not caring who saw and said, "I am sorry Desiree. I know you are a good cop but I will still worry every day about what is happening to you until I come back from my suspension. Hell, they might even team you up with Barton and if I found out you know that I would be climbing off the walls. But I want a promise from you, I want you to promise me that you will come and visit me every day after work....do you promise."

He then began to run his fingers over the top of Desiree's hand and grinned as he knew how much she liked it.

Desiree shivered as his fingers caressed her hand. He was really testing her resolve. She laughed at the thought of Barton as her partner.

"If they pair me up with Barton I will go into Captain Harrison's office and personally request to be suspended along with you. Then again I do have my gun with me at all times."

She laughed again and looked at him, her eyes sparkling. "Ok, I promise. I will force you to endure my presence every day after work. Though I doubt I will be going to your apartment. I think I will just stop by here after work every day and save myself the trouble of tracking you down. Using the cell phone doesnt seem to work to well with you either."

She knew she shouldnt but she couldnt help but remind him of how he had tried to escape her just a few days ago. Who would have thought it would lead to all this.

She glanced over to the waitress herself and felt another stab of jealousy. She tried to tell herself to stop it but the thought of Marcus here with the waitress while she was at work brought the worst out of her.

Marcus smiled when she reminded him of how he had ditched her a few days ago. He was about to say something but then he noticed Desiree looking at the waitress and said, "Hey, beautiful. I am right here, there is no need to look at Mac because that is not where I am or want to be. I am with who I want to be with and don't want to change that so there is no need to be jealous. And I know that you would shoot me with that gun you so conveniently mentioned."

He knew that he had got her attention when she turned her head quickly to look at him.

Razor - Morning

He opened and shut his eyes a few times, no longer able to hide himself from the morning sun. The way Jamie reacted to the Halloway incident hit him hard. The night of the successful heist should have been spent celebrating, but instead Razor found himself alone in bed, a pounding headache remnant of the alcohol consumption from the night before. He tossed and turned for a few more minutes, and at long last submitted to the unrelenting sunlight, and rolled out of bed gingerly.

He struggled into the shower, his hand on the back of his neck. He felt as though he's just woken up after being hit by a truck. Gotta cut down on those drugs... he thought to himself, as bead after bead became streams of ice cold water, rolling down the terrains of his chest and back.

What the hell is wrong with Jamie?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The shower left him cold and wet, but no more refreshed. With a towel wrapped snuggly around his waist, he stepped out onto his balcony, the warm sun at last providing some comfort. Once again, he dialed in the familiar number, and ran his finger through his damp, messed-up hair.
"Mac? Razor..."
"You know me too well, Partner," Desiree laughed,"So Mac is her name, huh? Well, you really cant blame me for being jealous at least a little bit. She is quite beautiful and...not in a profession that is going to get herself killed. Two of the traits all men look for in a woman-I saw it on Family Feud a couple nights ago."
She regretted it immediately when she saw the pained look in his face. "Way to go, airhead," She snapped at herself,"Just go ahead and make him worry about you some more. That is not going to help him get better."
Quickly changing the subject, Desiree said,"So, any suggestions on where to start in my research? You are the expert here you know."
"Just go through my files and see if there is something in them that I missed. I have been known to do that from time to time, miss the really important things until they hit me in the face."
Marcus then moved around to sit right next to Desiree and said, "It is going to be lonely today without you with me. Or is this your day off, I can never remember because if it is then I can think of a few things that we can do to pass the time."
Desiree felt the breath catch in her throat at his nearness. She tried to speak but the words wouldnt come. "Do you know what you are doing to me?," She wanted to ask him but didnt. Instead she picked up her coffee cup in trembling hands and took a drink. Setting it back down she finally looked at him.
Damn, being this close to him she couldnt help but look into his eyes which was dangerous at this point.
Smiling, she tried to sound casual,"Well, since a certain someone didnt allow me to drive today I guess I am at your mercy."
"However, if we are done with our breakfast, I do wish to go home and change out of this straight jacket," She indicated her suit and skirt. She usually wore jeans and t shirts or tank tops on her days off and she was beggining to miss the comfort.
"Besides, I was given strict orders not to show up until Monday. Unless you think we can sneak into the station without him finding out about it."
Marcus almost laughed at that suggestion.
"There is no way in hell," he said. "Now to get you out of those clothes. I mean, you want to get changed and I brought you here so it only seems fair that I take you to your place. Now doesn't it?"
Marcus got to his feet and after paying for their meal and coffee he followed Desiree out of his car, unlocked and opened the passenger door for her then got into the car and started the engine. He pushed the acclerator down and drove out of the carpark, when he was out of the carpark he said to Desiree, "Where do you live?"
Desiree gave him the address and instructions and settled back for the ride.
She admired how he handled the car. They glided through traffic easily and were soon at her apartment.
"You know, I dont know if it is safe to let you come in with me in the mood you are in," She laughed,"But I cannot very well leave you sitting in the car, can I?"
Getting out of the car, she headed into the building and stopped to pick up her mail from the box. She shuffled through the letters as she headed towards the elevator and got in. Waiting for Marcus to join her, she then pushed the button to floor number four and continued with her mail.
"Lets see here," She muttered,"Bill...bill...magazine...bill...oh, heres my mother's weekly envelope of guilt and it feels extra heavy today."
They were at the floor now and they both stepped out as she said,"My mother likes to keep in touch with her little girl. And she does not understand the words 'No' or 'Dont fix me up again, thier all losers'. She does make the best cinamon bread you ever tasted though so I put up with it."
At the door, she slid the key into the lock and clicked it open. Letting Marcus in and then stepping in beside him, she said,"It's modest but it makes a statement. What, I dont know because I am never around to hear it."
Pointing to the small kitchen she said,"Grab yourself a drink from the fridge and I will be back in a moment."
Planting a firm kiss on his lips, she hurried to her bedroom and fresh clothing. Choosing a pair of jeans and a blue tank top, she quickly shed her work clothes and slipped into her weekend things. Taking a minute to straighten up her bed which had been left a mess at her hurried departure this morning, she stepped out of the room again.
She found him fiddling with her stereo, his back to her. She coughed to get his attention and said,"I have been thinking. Do we scream cop so loudly that Earl knew who we were right away or did someone recognize us and tip him off. Call me crazy but that has bothered me since last night."
