Final post, as I'm leaving...

Alright, already! I decided to stay, thanks partly to some of your replies. Part of me also felt that I had lashed out in anger and now it has cooled off somewhat. I just know WHOM to avoid in the future. No need to mention them. THEY know who they are, these minions of the Orwellian left, whom I have decided not to give the satisfaction of driving me off. They will just have to deal with my "cliches" and "empty rhetoric" for a while longer.

Once again, thanks to those of you who have been nice, even when you didn't agree with me. Civility in debate is a good policy, indeed.

You either need to talk less crap, or develop thick skin. I chose the latter, because I'm scopophilic when it comes to posting.

Once again, thank you, my dear lady. That is just plain common sense. Which reminds me of Benjamin Franklin's quip that "common sense is not really that common". :D

That is OH so very true *nods*

And sub joe, I wondered what it was about you that reminded me of an alligator. Now I know it's your thick skin!!!! :p

And I'm too militant. Guess I'm due for an order of fresh epidermis. :D

that'll change, if you hang around long enough. ;)

The only advice I can give you is to maybe be a little more tolerant of others' views. Disagree, sure, but allow them to believe differently.

(coming from me, this is rich, no?)

I also like to float along down the river, with a small wading bird perched on my back.

Tolerant, yes. I am generally fairly tolerant of others' views. However, I would like some tolerance for my own in return. THAT, my dear lady, was what happened to be sorely lacking. Lack of tolerance in others tends to bring out the militant, "tribune of the people" side of me. The Orwellian left, along with the Orwellian right (Jerry Falwell comes to mind in that category) represent the greatest threat to personal freedom and constitutional liberty in this country.

Don't get me started on this "great country." Trust me on this.

Ah, touchy subject. Theft of land usually is. Not unlike the Irish attitude toward the landlords who reduced them to near serfdom (only they called it "tenancy"). TENANTS, indeed, of their ancestral lands.

Read my thread, "Native American Culture (or lack thereof)" when you get a chance (just search for it using my name as the thread starter).

There's some fun stuff in there, like old stories, etc, but also a LOT of information that might help you understand the way I see things. ;)

Yeah.

And while you're at it, S, read my "monosyllabic bird thread." You might learn something.

Joe, if you ever leave the AH again, I'll hunt you down, and drag you back by your hair. :D

I hate it when you're not around.

Everyone -- EVERYONE -- even the most *cough* intellectually superior *cough* among us has jackass moments. They usually pass.

Absolutely. In fact, that's why I pray that the rule of not braying at jackasses become a general practice. Then at least when I'm making an ass of myself, I won't be prodded and encouraged to prolong the spectacle for the amusement of the masses. ;)

For me, the skin thing was the best idea, because I would hate to talk less crap.

That reminds me of one of my favorite Far Side cartoons.

The crocodile is on the psychiatrist's couch, sadly confessing, "You know those teeny tiny little birds that walk around so trustingly inside a crocodile's mouth? Well, I've just been eating those little guys like popcorn!"

Hey, glad to see you didn't leave. I haven't gotten around to pissing you off yet.

:D :D

I must admit that I think civility is overrated, but I'm probably in the minority here.

I just find insult to be such a challenging rhetorical device. ;) With the right timing and circumstances, it's WAY more satisfying than righteous indignation.

[edit to add] That's why my AV. :D
