Flint Michigan

Our government allowed contaminated water to wreck the lives of the Marines, as well as thier families for 30 years at camp Legune. To this day they deny blame. Flint Michigan is nothing new. And our veterans who gave all, as well as thier families are first in line when it comes to truth. Yet the government waits for them to die before they admit the truth!!

Is the DOJ going to hold anyone responsible, or is this another "Shit Happens" event?

Quite true. Unfortunately a lot of things about water distribution were not know years ago. I,m sure if many of us checked the small towns and villages we were born and raised in that are more than 50 years old we could and would find many have supply lines to homes and business's that are lead. The Chicago western suburbs being one area for sure. Rather scary for sure.

The science behind the Flint water crisis

Flint’s recent water crisis is a stinging reminder that the infrastructure we often take for granted has many vulnerabilities.

The crisis also underscores the complexity of providing communities with safe, high-quality potable water.

Water utilities interested in using a new river water source, as the city of Flint was last year, would normally hire engineering firms to conduct detailed studies of the raw water quality and pilot studies to evaluate various water treatment process options before choosing a treatment approach.

As a researcher on water disinfection and professor of civil and environmental engineering, I know that a planning period of at least two to three years to get to a ribbon-cutting for such a facility is normal. The design of these systems is iterative by its nature and requires input from multiple stakeholders at various points in the design process.

Read the article if your geeky. The ignorance of science by 'businessmen' elected to 'fix' government problems has unforeseen consequences.

Or you can say, "Shit Happens when you're stupid, Governor."

Government is the city council which is responsible for Flint. Hold them to task for Flint not the feds.

Furthermore, the council is mostly black and democrats, hold them responsible.

Never listen to HRC, she is a liar.

No family, village, town, city, state or nation headed by blacks isn't a shit hole.

Okie dokie thanks for playing show us how little you know!

:nana:

Here's your parting gift.

I just love/hate how you Yanks make this a racial and political party issue. You would think that white Republicans are never driven by monetary problems to commit to short sighted solutions. As an outside observer I can assure you most of your politicians are incompetent and pander either to money or the mob.

Failing and out dated infrastructure is a huge problem in many cities and countries. Here in London we still have sewage and water systems in parts of town which date back to 1800s.

50/50 lead/tin solder was standard for copper water systems forever. 95/5 was just food industry and tin cans. If your house was built pre mid-80s guaranteed you have 50/50 soldered pipes.

Many even older homes and much of municipality water systems have pure lead joints.

Sometimes I wonder if a technocratic system of government might be best. Let a water and sewage engineer make the decision not some political science grad.

All neighbouring Detroit cared about was the loss of water sales. A 'water war'. LOL

I think the money/power is sufficient they will let it all slide.

That is exactly why they will not be held accountable at all and anyone who tries is just a racist.

They are 'can do no wrong' bullet proof.

your politicians are incompetent and pander either to money or the mob.

Well...that sums up pretty much every government out there today. Hope you're proud of that 'no shit Sherlock' moment!!

Michigan governor Rick Snyder faces racketeering lawsuit over Flint water crisis

The lawsuit brought by Flint residents alleges the two-year crisis was the result of ‘intentional’ actions by state officials to cut costs amid bankruptcy fears

A federal racketeering lawsuit by hundreds of resident in Flint, Michigan , is alleging the city’s two-year water crisis was the result of an“intentional scheme” crafted by state officials and Michigan governor Rick Snyder to balance the city’s budget.

In a press conference announcing the 17-count racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations ( Rico ) complaint on Wednesday, attorneys said the state of Michigan ran Flint’s day-to-day operations through an emergency manager, who prioritized balancing the city’s budget through a cost-cutting measure: switching Flint’s water source in April 2014 from Lake Huron, which serviced the city for more than 50 years, to a local river.

In a Rico statement filed to federal court, the attorneys said state officials, contractors and emergency managers appointed to run Flint had the “the intent and purpose of balancing the Flint City budget through a pattern of racketeering activity.”

“This association … misrepresented the suitability of the toxic Flint River water to Flint’s residents for approximately a two-year period, and billed Flint’s residents at rates that were the highest in the nation for toxic water that was unsuitable for use,” the lawsuit stated.

Those who has the gold makes the rules......always have always will.

Oh we can dilude it down and put smoke screens around it and dress it up in all kinds of fancy bullshit. But it's as true today as it was 2000 years ago.

What a shallow, uninformative comment. For decades, Flint voted in beholden to public sector unions who looked after their own members', but said politicians had little concern for the people who paid their salaries.

Socialist disaster waiting to happen. And, in different guises (probably not lead poisoning) it will continue in this country.

Yeah - fuck'em! They wanted schools, and jobs, public works, trash collection and law enforcement like a bunch of Socialist assholes. They deserved to have poison in their water! The cvnts.

Michigan governor Rick Snyder faces yet another lawsuit – this time over Detroit schools

Detroit public schools’ students are experiencing “serious and permanent” damage from Michigan governor Rick Snyder’s appointment of multiple emergency managers to run the district, according to an expansive federal lawsuit filed Thursday.

The lawsuit, which aims to cover more than 58,000 students, said Michigan’s emergency manager law allows for Snyder to appoint an unelected individual to “rule by decree” over the school system.

“Michigan’s emergency manager law and related practices were used to compromise and damage the quality of education received by DPS students with life*long consequences in the name of financial urgency,” according to the 110-page complaint.

The case comes amid a tumultuous period for Snyder, who was named Wednesday in a racketeering suit over the city of Flint, Michigan’s two-year water crisis. An emergency manager appointed by Snyder, Darnell Early, oversaw the city of Flint from September 2013 to January 2015 as emergency manager, before becoming emergency manager for the Detroit public schools. He resigned from that role in February.

When will the Governor be indited for malfeasance ?

Recall campaign targets Michigan governor Rick Snyder amid Flint water crisis

For the 57-year-old former venture capitalist, the shift in his political outlook has been dramatic: a year ago, Snyder was crisscrossing the country and meeting with political donors for a possible 2016 presidential run . In recent months, he has been grilled by a congressional panel for his administration’s delayed response to addressing Flint’s water contamination, while his approval rating has plummeted. A poll released last month found 75% of voters believed Snyder hadn’t handled the situation in Flint well, and 41% believed he should resign – up from 29% in January.

The governor has been targeted on several fronts in recent days, as the outrage among voters over his handling of Flint and the dire financial situation in Detroit public schools has culminated in a pair of wide-ranging lawsuits filed this week . Snyder is term-limited and cannot run for re-election in 2018, but a group led by a vocal Detroit pastor is seeking to end his time in office sooner: an ongoing petition drive to ask voters in a statewide referendum this November to recall the governor has collected an estimated 108,000 signatures since canvassers began their effort on Easter Sunday.

“He’s getting the boot,” said Anita Brown, 62, a Detroit native who volunteered with a steady stream of canvassers getting trained on Friday. “Put my name in big, blue writing: he’s out. He’s out of there.”

You can call yourself Rick, but to the people of Flint you're a DICK!

Cummings has 'grave concerns' Mich. governor lied under oath

The top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hit Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder for a number of perceived missteps he has made following his congressional testimony on the lead-contaminated water in Flint.

Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland sent Snyder a letter Thursday expressing concerns that he possibly perjured himself when he told the committee that he's working closely with local leaders such as Flint Mayor Karen Weaver. After that statement, it was disclosed that the governor's office didn't consult Weaver at all about a 75-point plan to help Flint recover from its water crisis.

"Despite your sworn testimony [on March 17], Mayor Weaver reports that you did not seek input from her about your plan before you testified and that you excluded her from meetings with the state officials you charged with developing this plan in the weeks leading up to our hearing," Cummings wrote.

"Your actions raise grave concerns about the accuracy of your testimony before our committee. If you withheld information about your 75-point plan from Mayor Weaver and other local leaders until after your appearance before our committee, that would appear to directly contradict your testimony on March 17."

Rick "The Dick" Snyder better hope he can dodge this charge.

Things are not looking so hot for ole Rick. This may just be the one instance when attempting to recall a Governor will not completely backfire. Well, I don't think the attempt on Bentley will backfire, but I doubt it will work.

It's not be cause they weren't rich or generally speaking black!! No no no!

It's because there were more important things to deal with like anti-buttsex n' blowjob laws.

They were just too busy protecting the great state of Michigan from perverts!!
