My daughter made these great crispy spice cookies.

I made cream cheese icing to go with it. Grab a cookie, smear on some icing...

Oh yeaaaaah.

I am taking the train down to a Farmer's Market this morning. All sorts of goodies in season right now. I will share pictures and accounts of my finds with you fine Foodies upon my return.

yay!!

I am so thrilled that he is excited about cooking. I think an understanding and appreciation of food, especially at such a young age, is a beautiful thing. There are so many peripheral skills involved in cooking, but it is so fun that it doesn't feel like learning. I am very excited to try some of his creations.
He's planning to cook for you. We've already discussed a menu.

I love gingersnaps with a cream cheese icing so I know those were delicious!

I had the grilled fresh troll caught SE Alaska King Salmon at Orso's last evening. It was divine. I recommend it to anyone headed this way.

Btw, Orso is bear in Italian, or so they say at the restaurant.

I am the luckiest man.
Here's a partial list of my farm fresh goodies: red carrots, golden beets, kohlrabi, radishes, ramps, watercress, mizuno, arugula (incl. wild arugula), cherries, cheremoya, habanero pistachios.

Nom nom nom.

Those sound tasty.

Very. A whole stand devoted to pistachios. They had many flavors, but as soon as I saw the "fiery habanero" flavor, my search was over. I am an avowed pepperhead.

I ordered a huge basket of pistachios and pistachio candy for my dad's 80th birthday in April. They were making fun of how many pistachios they had...

But everyone ate them and my mom wants the pistachio brittle for Mother's day.

So pistachios are good.

Open zip-loc bag

Place pistachios in bag

Don't touch them for 2 1/2 weeks

Put them on plane with yourself

Hand them over

(All of it sounds great, sweetie!)

Did they burn like hades?

They are pretty damn picante, actually. I was pleasantly surprised. And the pistachios are of superb quality, to begin with.

So pistachios are good.

Here is wisdom.

You know full well I would bring you a wheelbarrow full of pistachios, just to see that smile.

We do! Last time we were in your neck of the woods, we were on a tight schedule. Next time, we will make time to visit.

Here are some of my farmer's market goodies, prepped for roasting. Good lord, fresh seasonal veggies are gorgeous!

Mmmmm, those look amazing. Love the little red carrots!

Those carrots are amazing. The skin is light and delicate, so no need to peel, and the flesh is a beautiful golden orange, rather like the beets, actually. They have a more robust flavor than your normal, run of the mill carrots.
