Bitebrat...get down to Hood River and take the Mt Hood Railroad--especially during the fall. This older train goes up the Hood River Valley, past the apple/pear orchards, stops at Parkdale for an hour and them back to Hood River. Gorgeous scenery on a vintage train and the round trip takes about four hours--kids would love it, too!
