The civil servant crack, was just that.

I saw a cool opening and I took it. Sue me.

As for "joining." Again - I thought it was clear.

Once you understand the "arrogance of human intellect," to which I think most all of us fall prey.

Then of course you would realize that you "know nothing."

Then when you realize that - you would know that there is an infinite amount of information "to learn" - in order to grow and change.

And that "if" you could "learn that infinite amount of information out there" which is as yet unlearned - you would know that - what you know know is meaningless.

You see - "everything you know now is meaningless" - hense - any reasoning for joining a club - to support a system - is meaningless - in fact "the system" is meaningless.

Don't you see - all that we know - is meaningless - and we refuse to see it, believe it, acknowledge it or even say/ask "what if everything we know is meaningless?"

All because of our own arrogance.

Clubs are stupid - because they are only meaningful relative to your/our - small thinking.

No fucking duh.

I remember when my sister was heavily involved in the Democratic Party. This was during the Bush/Dukakis election of 1988. She was carrying around oodles of documents and literature (propaganda) that consisted mostly of embarrassing photos of George Bush, and stupid things Dan Quayle had said. I saw very little in the way of a vision or philosophy, just vicious bashing of the other side. Of course some of this stuff was hillarious, but it showed the mentality of partisan politics. It almost seems that what you oppose takes precedence over what you support. You couldn't merely disagree with the opposition, you were expected to hate these republicans and their mothers too. I'm quite certain the GOP was doing the same thing in their camp, but it sure took the idealism out of it for me anyway. I'd have a tough time hanging with people who refuse to look at both sides of an issue.

I guess most of my views would be considered liberal, some are extremely liberal. I can't throw my arms around a talking-head geek like Al Gore (who do you think the Dems are going to offer up next time, doh!) and whatever conservative policies I might support come with the intolerance associated with a tight-ass republican.

But this thread has become more about whether Sparky should join a Raccoon Lodge somewhere, and teach them all about the finer points of Uber non-commital.

I'm a bit disappointed in the Dems for allowing many things that I disagree with to happen. (Today many Democrats voted to withhold funding from any public school that doesn't allow the Boy Scouts - who do not allow gays in their membership - to meet on their premises.

Perhaps it's because they represent the will of their constituents?

We are respected - and yes, envied a bit, in most places on the planet. Americans are not viewed as parochial idiots (except, perhaps, our current President). Sparky, your rather amusing superiority toward our system

is reminicent of the 60's in the US. Are you stuck in a time warp? If you read what I wrote, you would see that I said that, although flawed, our system beats anything else in the world. Oh, an I am not sitting back resting - I work 12-14 hour days for the public. Why? Because I think I am and can make a difference in peoples' lives - even yours, perhaps.

You know, "Sparky" it is too bad that we will never meet. I always enjoy a duel, even with an unarmed man.

1) You ain't respected much from what I've seen. Despite what you may believe the yokel image be strong and berry much alive.

2) I don't want a USA vs. the World debate but where do you arrive at the US having the best system in the world. I'd of thought that your recent mess in which the guy who got the second most votes won(And, only got about 25% of the country to vote for him) would have sent a message of a weak system. I'm not a huge fan of the parliamentary system we use but it certainly has worked better for us.

3) I suppose the "Unarmed Man" thing was supposed to be a joke but lets keep it friendly. It's a shame when a smart post is thrown in the gutter with an idiotic closing line.

doubt) you sure are a self-congratulatory bastard Sparky.
"human intellectual arrogance" oh boy, re-read your Hobbes. this so-called flaw is actually the one thing that makes all humanity equal. how? its simply really -- we are all victims of it. because it is possible to experience life through our own minds, me make a great assumption that all other beings are sensient and intelligent. however, we never can really aver this. this being said, it is natural to assume superiority over all others in terms of intellect, but because we all do it - it loads us in the same boat.

and for future reference - don't put words in my mouth, and i will continue to NOT claim that i "know" you. I mean, I like you sparkster (really, i do), but i dont like you

My thoughts on this matter.....

Arrogance of human intellect - are very hard to get anyone to even listen to - I realize that - heck the primary premise is......

All of us really know nothing at all.

And followed by......

But you won't admit it because of your arrogance.

I do see how that's difficult to take.

Especially when the next quick assumption from whoever I'm explaining this to is.......

Doesn't Sparky then "know everything?" I mean he's figured this out and he says we don't know anything, that we don't think. He's insulting us, our intellegence and anything we believe in. That know it all SOB is exactly what he is telling us that we all are.

Yes, of course I realize this. It's actually kind of a cyclical argument of arrogance begets, stupidity, begets futility - over and over again.

But you see? That is my point. The futility of it all. That and most of us "refusing" to see that it's futile. Our existance, our lives - only mean anything in reference to what, "we have created oursleves."

We have created "these rules" and we not only live by them - we die for them - and we die by them.

And all I saying is - that the only import that "these rules" have - exists in "our" minds - and that in fact "these rules" are meaningless, relative to what is really important - and what is really important - is stuff we don't know yet. Stuff beyond our own humble, meger, arrogant creativity.

That's all.

Of course "we don't know that stuff yet" so there is only "one way to live" - now. And that's by our own rules. I just like to know - I see - that these rules we live by - are in the end - meaningless in matters beyond our limited human existence.

So go ahead - be American and be proud, be Canadain and be proud, be from anywhere and be proud, join a club and be proud, be human and be proud - it's the only thing you know - there's nothing inherentley wrong with that.....

Unless it closes your mind to other possibilities. Unless it stops you from thinking. Which is unfortunately is what I beleive most of us do.
