It's not the dud's that count, only one has to work.
And therein lies the quandary. It's unlikely they would inititate a full nuclear war - they are more likely to fire one - a warning shot - and if that one doesn't work......the threat immediately dissipates.....or at least becomes not thst serious.
You're wrong, Trump is not pro-Putin. He's a realist.
Looking at it, ALL his actions indicate he is pro-Putin and very anti-Ukraine / Zelesnky. Trump is a guy who works on emotions and feelings and Putin plays himlike a violin - not to mention all the Russian money he has received over the years. Sadly, all the evidence points to Russian being at best a Russian symp, and at worst, a Russian agent.
Russia has been in Crimea and the Donbas since 2014, anyone that believes he's going to negotiate ANY OF THAT away is delusional and Trump isn't delusional. It appears that even Zelensky is beginning to face up to the reality of the situation.
He won't negotiare that away, that's a given. No, Zelesnky's problem is Trump - he has to play along with Trump to prevent him going even more overt against Ukraine than he has. Zelensky is playing for time against Trump as we all know very well that Putin will NEVER agree to anything other than Ukrainian capitulation, which will NOT occur. Zelensky's problem is that he has to appear to give Trump what he wants in order to make it unavoidable for Trump to face the reality that he cannot force a Ukrainian surrender - and if he does, it will have to be open and in cfront of the American people - and at that point some of the GOP - at least the sane ones - will turn against him.
Trump is going down on the wrong side of history on this one. And it would have taken so little to help Ukraine. Keep in mind he has not lifted a finger to help Ukraine since he was elected. His bias is open and on full display, to the extent that personally, I would have to say he's bought and paid for. I await the excuses and vituperation from today's meeting with bated breath - what hew depths of iniquity will he sink to in his attempts to backstab Ukraine and browbeat Zelensky into surrender.
Of course China's been salivating over Siberia for years and that's why Russian reintegration is so important. With Western reintegration Russia will have allies against China, as it stands now they'll be hung out to dry.
Further the entire Ukraine situation is NOT a matter of critical national interest. Obviously Europe is more concerned but in the end should Russia actually take Ukraine it would find itself in the same position as the dog that chases cars, and actually caught one. And in the end it would just be another case of European ebb and flow that's been going on throughout recorded history. On the other hand China is of critical national interest.
Russia will never ally with the USA against China. Pie-dream
Critical national interest? But it is.Or was, because the damage has been done. The USA's agreement to any treaty has been proved worthless. Security committments made by the USA are worthless. Taiwan is now in question and nobody can now be sure that if Taiwan is attacked the USA will do a thing. Japan and South Korean will build nukes, as will Poland and potentially other countries. Trump has singe;handlely destroyed nuclear non-proliferation.
With the USA's role as worldpoliceman abdicated, the US dollar is no longer the shield it was and US debt is now losing value. No more easy deficit financing.
No, Ukraine WAS critical, but Trump has done the damage and that can't be fixed. Sad.
