Robert felt better. She put her arm around his waist and moved in rhythm to the music. It felt good to have her by his side, her body touching his.
"Everything's fine," she said.
It sure felt fine to him, but he was still worried she would regret this. He was, after all, supposed to be mentoring her. It had been so long since he’d felt like this that he was unsure of what to do. She’d seemed to enjoy it.
Stop second guessing yourself, Crameri.
He felt her tighten her grip around his waist and he lowered his head to her, her mouth brushing his ear. They’d just spent nearly an hour out back and she still felt incredible. In fact, he was feeling desire for her again.
"This is a really good band," she said.
He nodded. “They’re probably the best young band going around. They still need a break though to really make it.” He nearly had to shout as they were so close to the front of the stage.
He shifted behind her and put one arm around the front of her, grabbing her hard belly and pressing her back closely to him. Her movement to the music was incredibly arousing and he pressed into her as well.
I don’t care what anyone thinks, I’m going to enjoy myself.
He moved in rhythm with her. He kissed the top of her head and leaned her back into him. He sculled his beer and lightly tossed the glass to the bus boy trying to get through the crowd. Now he could wrap both arms around her. His hands rested on his forearms and he held her close, smelling her hair.
“This feels….,” he cut himself short. The music stopped and he was shouting at her.
He laughed. “Sorry, I nearly burst your ear drum,” he said.
The band was nearing the end of their set, but Robert had been so engrossed in Devyn that he’d hardly noticed.
“….and we also have a special guest here,” Jake was yelling into the microphone.
The crowd started cheering.
“Most of you know him. He’s our personal trainer,” he continued, lifting a bourbon and coke to his lips and everyone laughed. “Come on guys, welcome the doc, the brain, the only person that could have got us into this sort of shape….” everyone laughed again, “Dr. Robert Crameri!!!”
What the....?
Everyone started cheering and whistling. Robert didn’t know what to do, but Stav had jumped down from the stage. He pulled him away from Devyn and led him by the arm up on to the stage.
Robert scrambled up like a kid and looked back into the crowd. He didn’t know what he was doing up here, but the people were all yelling and clapping. These were his people. Staring into the bright stage lights behind the crowd, he felt airheaded from the booze and his romp with Devyn.
He gave her a small embarrassed smile and shrugged his shoulders.
“You may have heard this one before, but never like this….” said Jake into the microphone before he pulled away.
Robert heard Stav mumble in his ear, “You know the words, doc, just sing a bit and jump around. You can do that, you’re not too tired, eh?” he said winking at him and nodding towards Devyn in the crowd.
“You’re a smart ass….” was all Robert could get out before the stage exploded in a wall of sound.
Now, what were the words to Broken Leg?
